well, I cant speak much because i've only been on gaia for a little while...But it all started to change when I joined. (atleast I think so)
We should call this site "DesperGaia: The most desperate site EVER! Come and join just to be ripped off and introduced to viruses!"
Srsly gaia. You REALLY want that name?

Yeah. I pretty much agree with about everything you said
I've been on here for over two and a half years. This includes a few whole site layout changes, the introduction of the cash shop, a few games, and even a few forums were here. But the overall changes of the site... it's just something you get used to, y'know? The admins are really only trying to make us happy with how the site looks.
The viruses part - I really don't believe that whole event was done on purpose. Gaia surely shouldn't want us off the site, they'd be loosing the potential money income. Yes, this site is really greedy, but they kind of have to be. To pay for the servers, and to pay themselves, they had do get some other way to do it other than donations.
But still, the cash shop pisses me off. More items are released through that stupid shop than any other one on Gaia. And those items are then sold for a lot of profit in the marketplace. It's just not fair to those of us who just don't have money to toss around like that. And I would pay the $2.50 for an item if I really, really wanted it... but $5 items? Seriously?
I just really don't want Gaia to become any more money hungry than it already is.

I agree with you too. I've been here since 05 and 04 back then it was way nicer and more fun. Back then the guild forums had use. D= Now it barely has anyone going into it. And it makes it that much harder for people to remember to check on the guilds.
The sites that offer stuff like that I have to say are scams. burning_eyes

ive been here for 4 years i think, back then pretty much every site feture was differant, i really liked the old gaia back when 10k was a hugely expensive item and youd save up for weeks back when the monthly collectibles where the best items. now that we have the cash shop its almost causing a class divide, i wouldnt mind so much if they were still releasing good items for those that dont want to buy cash, but unfortunatley their not

lol, I just got her in like, April! rofl I hated it when they changed the avigation bar, and I wish the gold shops got more items. I aways get my MCs when the first come out, on the marketplace!! blaugh
I am glad for hte ites tat came out on Halloween. I didn't have to pay 50k to get blck neko ears for my cosplay. ninja
5 dollar items?! I shall not pay for PIXELS!!!!

When I first started gaia I was determined not to pay for pixels, but for the last couple of months I've been ordering the monthly collectible via international mail-in (as I don't want to get pay-pal etc.)
Not because I think the Collectibles are so awesome any more, but to support the site properly after being here for over 3 years. I prefer to support them by buying these letter rather than just buying cash, as it is a donation.
Even if it means I have to pay double (as I can't send coins and have to buy a lot of stamps)

ive probably spent atleast $100 on this site and i was stupid to do it
Gaia said they'ed NEVER ask u for personal info. but they ask for ur phone number, address ect.

I find this ironic, since gaia keep on claiming that they do the changes to benefit new/not yet registered members - but that doesn't really make sense, does it? I mean, as a new member I know I'd like stability and security more than a new navbar every other month or so...

When ever someone says: "I miss old Gaia." Some other jerk will always come out and reply: "You miss the lag, crashing, and server overload?"
I certainly don't miss those things but I do miss the humanity in the creators and directors. Gaia's community easily gets separated into social cliques and we NEED things like Events to draw us together but alas it seems the Gaia staff has no time for us anymore, just rigs and bundles. . . . . and Timmy bashing.
It went from a community social site to a money hungry corporate business with forums and games on the side.
On a side note, I do love the changes to the inventory and the Quick Link bar, now if only they would let us trash soulbound items we don't want.

Well, I've been on this site for about two or three years, and I've seen changes, some for the better, some for the worse. The amount of GC promotions around here is probably the worst thing that's happened.
I remember first starting out on this site, a newbie with a few items in my inventory and my friends teaching me the ropes. I created my circle of online friends, found new people to talk to, and slowly gathered gold so that I could get some nicer items. It was all fine and dandy, and I knew that if I kept it up, I could get an MC or something, since back then they were actually pretty good. But one day, a little thing caught my eye. The first EI. At the time, I thought it was an amazing idea, but I was saddened by the fact that I couldn't seem to gather enough gold to catch up to its inflation on the marketplace. Then I learned about Gaia Cash. I thought it was kind of a pain, but understandable since the site needed money. Anyhow, years went on and I slowly came to realize that the MCs were going downhill in quality, and those ever-tempting but out-of-reach EIs just kept coming, with everthing from RIGs to aquarium items joining the party.
Before I knew it, Gaia was this: a bloated site that's suffering from a lack of creativity and has EVERYTHING that's worth buying only obtainable through GC or through extremely high marketplace listings. Now, things are either super-expensive and out of my price range, inflating too fast for me to ever hope that I can get them, or cheap items I barely want. There is barely any "middle class" anymore. I think back to those days were a fledgling Gaian like me could obtain at least some good items. Now, I feel sorry for the newbies who can't afford anything without the use of GC.
