Ever since that stupid school opened in our town the rules that had been set never changed. Lights and Darks. Two kinds of people, two ways of life. It was clear as day and night, oil and water, jocks and nerds. There was no way the two sides could ever mix. It was made impossible. No matter what.

My long, high-pitched screech cut through the once silent winter air, echoing around the thin alley around me. I tried to look at the people around me but the blunt object cracked over my head. My vision blurred and I fell to my knees, blood spewing from my nose and pooling in my mouth. I could see the drops melding with all the stains from the past as they fell from the word scratched into my forehead.
I was in the place where nightmares are born. Where all the screams of our violent past were silenced, I was where all the blood had been lost and where the messages scream out of the events, recapping them in detail using no more than four words. I was in Nightstain Lane. That's what we called it and that's what we feared.
"You like that don't you?" a voice whispered to me, breaking my thoughts. A shoe collided with my ribs, causing me to roll over in pain. My body twitched slightly shooting darts through my limbs.
A hand grabbed a fistful of my hair and pulled my head up. I blinked away tears and saw the outline of a young man. I growled and kicked him. "Yow!" he shouted, jumping back and rubbing his shin.
"Go easy on her, we don't want to kill her!" a frightened female shrieked. Her voice was high pitched and she seemed to be a ways away. I tried to look up at her but as soon as I was up the guy knocked me back down, kicking me hard in the gut. I collapsed onto the concrete, my own pool of blood flowing around me, soaking my hair.
"She's a filthy whore and needs to be killed but I don't want that much blood on my hands," another girl muttered.
I coughed, the salty taste swimming between my teeth now pouring out onto the concrete. "You have enough on them already," I hissed at her.
"Shut the hell up. You have no right to talk to me," she growled. She kicked me and I fell back against the brick wall.
The knife that had been on my forehead now dug into my leg. "Please," I whimper but they can't hear me.
"I said to kill her, no one will care."
"A lot of people will care," a strong male voice said.
"Like who? Nick? Jasmine? You know we'd be better off without this worthless piece of sh--"
"Someone's coming!" the scared girl screamed.
I heard hastened footsteps slowly dieing as they ran from me. "You deserve to die you wench," the boy whispered. He knelt down and I felt small spines digging into my neck as he wrapped barbed wire around me, the ancient tradition. He tied my wrists up with wire and stood up.
Blood dripped slowly down my neck, making my skin crawl as it cooled from the night air. I couldn't move. Everything hurt and I wanted to die.
Silence had filled the winter air only to be broken by the small sounds of someone cocking a gun. I cringed, waiting for the final blow. I heard a loud crack, followed by the loud roar of a gun being fired.
