Magical Species
This will grow as I have the time to add more and/oras new species appear.
Alicorns - Alicorns are silly creatures. Being that they are halfbreeds; A cross between a Unicorn and a Pegasus, they seem to lack the wisdom of the Ki-Lin and grace of the Unicorns, but fled to the skies to be as silly as the birds. They love to chase rainbows and it seems to have stained their fur because Alicorns come in all colors. Alicorns usually travel in small groups, usually just family groups. They love to annoy their Unicorn and Ki-Lin brethren, but seem to get along well with Pegasi who, despite their honorable nature, will play along with them. They are taught from birth that the only point to living is to have fun and enjoy every precious second of it, because unlike Unicorns and Pegasi, they are not immortal. They may have halfling forms, but they are usually set apart by their wildly colored hair, eyes or clothing. They love jewelry and collecting various shiny objects. Most species either really dislike Alicorns or love them. (credited to Rho)
Banshee - Banshees are cursed and an unfortunate species. Little is known of their origins. In certain fae folklore it is said that fairies or otherwise innocent fae type folk witness death or become obsessed with it, they turn into Banshees. But this may simply be tale to keep their species cheerful. Banshees are cursed with the ability to know when people are going to die. Though there are few in existence, they roam the world bringing bad news and gloom to all. Their other abilities are shrouded in mystery, aside from their wailing, mournful howl. Supposedly they have the ability to float, due to the fact that they feel sensitive to all the dead creatures that have fallen to the earth. They can create great waves of sonic sorrow from their vocal chords to warn others of their impending doom. Most steer away from humans and other more happy creatures, and the rest of the world is glad of it. Banshees do blend well in human society because they have no distiguishable characteristics that set them apart from humans, aside from being just a tad bit creepy. They are classified as magical because, although they would be glad to be rid of it, magic is an integral part of their being. (credited to Rho)
Elves: There are many subspecies of elves, but there is much they share in common. The subpecies will be listed after the general description.
Elves have been around since the dawn of time, and humans have developed all kinds of legends about them, most of which aren't true. Elves are not immortal, as far as anyone can tell, as they do age, but no-one is quite sure what their lifespan is - not even they know, as most of their kind die in accidents or of suicide long before they reach the point where they'd die of old age. Those few who have died of old age hve died at wildly different ages, anywhere from 600 years old to 6 thousand. Elves feel most emotions far more intensely than most species, especially love and grief, so their suicide rate is much higher - and they do not let go of the idea of revenge easily.
Given the choice between being a mage or a warrior, most elves will choose warrior, for although almost all elves can use magic most do not wish to risk it. Elven magic is based upon their life force, and using too much at once can easily kill them. You can usually tell the stronger mages because their larger life force reserves show in a higher constitution, or, more commonly, a bright attitude and exuberance that anyone can see.
At the age of 100, when they come of age, elves go through a sort of ceremony to prove they are adults. It is told that at this time an elf's life reserves are expanded to encompass all that they will need for the trials of their life, and that you can tell those who are destined for great things by how deep their reserves are. More on this ceremony will be added later.
Elven rangers are the elite of their fighting force, and they are chosen among those suitable at their coming of age ceremonies. After that, they spend 700 years in training, both magic and weaponry, both practice and actual battle. Normal warriors train for 50-100 years, depending on their preference, and mages always say they spend their whole lives training.
Dark elves: There are two kinds of dark elves. First, and more common, is the kind that all other elves have sworn to exterminate, those that are truly evil. The original of this type were elves so twisted by anger and hate that they destroyed their own kin, and the forest they grew up in, because they could not stand to feel the joy and life in those around them. The evil and hatred seeped into their very being, and continued in their children. Over the years they developed a poison, that if inserted into the bloodstream of any elf, will either turn them evil or kill them, depending on the elf's strength of will. There is a legend of one elf, thousands of years ago, who managed to survive the poison without turning - but most laugh off this tale, unbelieving.
The other kind of dark elves, also known as Stone elves, is far less common. These are the elves that gave up the upper world to delve the depths of the world with the dwarves and gnomes. They have a love of shiny objects far greater than that of a normal elf. Their skin color depends on the number of generations they have been underground, anywhere from a light brown to a dark blue-black. Their hair color is of the normal colors.
Sea elves: Pretty obvious. These are the elves who took to the sea. They tend to be a bit wiler than most, and almost always have complicated tattoos covering their arms and face in purple, blue, black and green. Their skin is pale, and their hair tends to have a tint of blue or green, barely discernable. They both use ships and swim, but they do need to breathe air.
Sky elves: Despite the human legends, sky elves do not have real wings. Rather, they construct them from whatever material is handy and enchant them to allow themselves to fly. They are obsessed with flight and the stars, and envy the Icarii their wings.
Plains elves: Plain elves aren't much different from normal elves, except they prefer the wide open spaces of the plains to the green majesty of the forest.
Kirin: Kirin have long been hunted for their horns, hooves, scales and blood. It is rumored that they were once Unicorns, but rejected their innocence and went in search of a new way to live. In Kirin folklore, during this journey they met with a dragon who tried to attack and eat them, but to the dragon's suprise... They fought back and won the battle. With their hooves and horns dipped in his blood, they had lost their innocence, and so their horns turned black and curved backwards. Their hooves took the same black color and became clawed. They each took a scale from the dragon and carried it until they began to grow them themselves. Kirin as a species usually travel together, forever nomadic, with a rich cultural heritage. Despite their past dealings with humans, they do not hate or fear them. Unicorns on the other hand, are usually dealt with with mocking scorn and typically bullied. Other species disputes are unknown. (Description and history accredited to Rho)
Illindi:The Illindi once used to be a mighty people, much like the elves. Wise, mythical creatures that lived in harmony on the shores of Light. Though, they were all assigned to something. The Nobles and royals were their leaders; leaders of special subjects.
With this system, they grew and grew becoming more powerful with every year that passed. Architects made cities, artists made art, sculptors made the images of that they liked, blacksmiths made truely beautiful weapons, farmers kept their lands and many more. Their cities were loved by many due to the soft, fair singing voices of the united Illindi, and many were welcome with them.
However, one noble was the holder of Light and the Darker species regarded him as too powerful. A war broke out and many died, yet many lived. The Lord of Light caught the only tear of the moon. The moon cried for she regretted the first war she had to see. The Lord forged the tear into a jewel and gave it to his daughter.
Years passed and the Illindi faded from the lands due to a curse put upon them. People forgat about them and now they only live in books and stories. Though, there were six of them left. Each one of them held a special power.
However there were abilities they shared: Immortality, eternal youth, sight, elemental gifts and the gift from the Goddess; a jewel from Mother Earth which protected them from the curse.
Now, the last six of them are shattered acrossed the globe, living hidden from the outside for they are magical people with a certain charm upon them.
