So yeah, Interview with the Vampire is the book I'm reading at the moment, and it's the only Anne Rice book I've read, so please don't post anything from further on the Vampire Chronicles, I'm not that far yet. (If you want to post about the other books please post in another thread).
I'm really enjoying it so far (I'm actually nearly done with it), but I have to say that I don't see the fascination that people have with Lestat. There are loads of threads in the main book forum saying things like 'Edward or Lestat?' and I just don't get Lestat's appeal. I can see that he's a strong character and makes the book what it is, but I don't see the attraction. Anyone help me?
Yeah... discuss. Who is your favourite character? What is your favourite part? What part did you find most shocking?

I read the Vampire Chronicles, until "Memnoch The Devil". I can understand the facsination for Lestat, but I prefer Louis, and Armand (but I don't remember if he appears in the first novel).
I find Claudia really fascinating, strange and magnetic too smile

I find Claudia really fascinating, strange and magnetic too smile Yeah, as I said I have only read the first one. How far in is the last one you've read? I prefer Louis as well. Claudia holds some kind of interest as well, but I don't find her a very endearing character. Louis still holds a lot of human values, and I actually like that. Lestat just freaks me out, haha. I've not come across Armand yet, but he could possibly appear later on, I'm only on part 2 at the moment.

I wish time could stop... [ Even though I own Anne Rice, I've never read it. XD. I tried to read Interview with a Vampire, but sinces Louis is narrating it, I feel like I'm just watching the character talking, and not seeing what he's saying. Though I did like the movie, if that counts for anything. ]...so we could be like this for a little bit longer.

I didn't like Lestat very much while reading Interview with the Vampire, but when I read The Vampire Lestat I grew to prefer him.

I've not actually seen the movie, but my boyfriend has and said that he really enjoyed it. I found the book quite hard to get into at the beginning as well, because of the narrative. To me, the way he was holding the conversation with the boy, it felt like the end of the book to me, rather than the beginning, and I can't seem to find a reason for that.

Question the Answer I didn't like Lestat very much while reading Interview with the Vampire, but when I read The Vampire Lestat I grew to prefer him. Perhaps then, I should continue with the series, and see how much I like Lestat after the second book?

This book is from Louis' point of view, and most of the others are from Lestat's. Simply put, I like Lestat because he reminds me of my mother. A very strange reason, yes, but I've been reading Anne Rice almost as long as I've been reading Stephen King (I read two Stephen King books when I was 8, and when I was 9 I started on Anne Rice), so my nine-year-old brain made the connection between Lestat and my mother almost right off. It's his personality. Honestly, though? I love all of Rice's characters. From Lestat, Armand, Louis and Claudia to Pandora, Quinn, Mona, and Rowan. I love them all, A through Z. Who is your favorite character?Like I said, I love them all. My favorite character from Interview would have to be Daniel, who is the kid interviewing Louis. I was always partial to journalists. Hehe. What is your favorite part?Hard to say. When Louis trashes the Theatre of Vampires in Paris, that's pretty awesome. Not that I didn't see it coming, after what happened. [whistles] What part did you find most shocking? The events leading up to Claudia's making "shocked" me in as much as I didn't expect them at all when I was younger.

Hey Tommy! smile Thank you for letting me know the name of the journalist, I hadn't managed to pick that up, aha. It's not made very clear, although I don't suppose it's a very important aspect of the novel. I agree with your most shocking moment. The build up to Claudia's change was very shocking, in a weird disturbing way. I also found Lestat's reappearance at the end of Part one a shock. But tha was a shock in the sense that I didn't see it coming! I kind of guessed at Claudia when she was discovered at the hospital and Lestat bought her home. It was going to happen really.

I am glad that I picked it up and gave it a read though.

I prefer them over plenty of other books, but they aren't my all time favorite and I can't see myself re-reading them or reading anymore anytime soon.

I mean, I can appreciate why some people hold them so highly, but they're not really for me, although I have enjoyed reading this one well enough. It wouldn't be a re-read for me either.

Though not by much, I suppose, thinking back. Lestat's reappearance wasn't a shock to me because I read The Vampire Lestat, and indeed, most of the series, first. Because I had trouble getting into Interview at first, as well. The other books were much better, and still are, though I dislike the last one immensely.

I was convinced that the boy's name was Louis as well because Louis (vampire Louis) said something about the boy being shocked when he told the boy what his name was, and said something like "Yes, my name is Louis too". This has gotten me quite confused, aha. It is quite difficult to get into. Are the other books written in a different style?
