A young shinigami walked along the streets of Rukongai, cheerfully talking to the spirit beside her. The phrase 'shinigami academy' repeatedly came out of her mouth as she described it to her friend, her hands moving about as she explained, excitement clear on her face.
Misuki Kyoya didn't know that her day was going to be this good. When she was sent to pick up another spirit with unusually high reiatsu to be taught in the shinigami academy, she thought it would be someone she didn't know, just like how it usually was--though it did little to dampen her mood. She enjoyed her job, enjoyed leading souls to Soul Society, enjoyed taking spirits to the academy; it made her happy to think that she had prevented another from becoming a Hollow, and it was always fun to watch the spirits' growth in the academy.
When she found out that she was picking up someone familiar, though, Kyoya couldn't be happier. The chances of meeting a spirit you once sent to Soul Society was pretty small, considering the size of Rukongai and the amount living in there. Not to mention that Chiharu still remembered her, despite of them having only met once.
"And then there's--oh, we're here!" Kyoya said, stopping in front of the gates of the shinigami academy. "The trip felt a lot faster than when I left," she continued, walking past the gates calmly, "I suppose it's because of the company." She chuckled, smiling at Chiharu. "Well, now that we're here, shall I take you around?" she offered, "We still have some time before nightfall, and it'll do you good to familiarize yourself with the place. What do you say?"

Following behind the girl clad in shinigami robes was another girl, whom's attire was significantly "brighter" than the others.
Chiharu followed behind her new friend with a light smile on her face. The day's events had been a surprise for her as she hadn't expected to have been routed for the shinigami academy of all things. With her friend chattering away happily about the academy Chiharu decided to get a good feel of their surroundings. She definitely wasn't ignoring Kyoya, she was simply paying attention to multiple things at once with one clear intention in mind. To recognize and memorize the path from Ken's ramen shop to the academy. As they veered off further and further away she felt that she was less and less familiar with their surroundings.
Tuning back into Kyoya's explanations as the faint outline of what was probably the academy appeared Chiharu couldn't help but wonder if she'd ever see her other friends again. This was an academy, so wouldn't her free time be limited? Between seeing Ken-san and juggling academy work would she find the time to see them again? Shaking the negatives out of her head Chiharu refocused on the positives. It was the start of a new adventure, and what adventure would it be if she started it off with a frown?
'Oh wow... It's sure big...', she thought as she silently awed the academy. She nodded at Kyoya's comment about the time it took as well. Time well spent definitely went by fast. "I'd love a tour.", she replied with a smile. "And I'm sure that I'd be better off knowing some of the academy rather than starting completely unfamiliar with everything.", she concluded with a light laugh.

"Alright then," Kyoya confidently said, smiling at Chiharu, "I'll make sure you know every nook and cranny in this academy!"
At that, the shinigami stepped past the gates, making sure that Chiharu was following her as she started walking. The academy was a large place; it would take a whole day to show someone around in detail. Perhaps she should show all the important places first before moving to the less important ones. It's not as if a student would need to know where they keep the cleaning tools, anyway--at least, not on their first day.
"Here is the main hall, where they announce and hold all sorts of things," she explained as they passed a large building with equally large doors, where several students and shinigami were mingling with each other. The air was filled with general chatter and the occasional laughter. "It's often used for meet-ups as well, since it's so easy to find."
Kyoya then turned her gaze towards another building diagonally across the hall. "That's one of the many buildings we use for classrooms," she said, throwing a glance at Chiharu. "We have a lot of subjects here, some voluntary, some mandatory. Most of the classroom subjects are voluntary, though, if I'm not mistaken."
She stopped and turned towards her new friend. "Any questions before we go deeper into the academy?"

"Alright.", she replied confidently with a smile.
As she followed after her friends Chiharu tried her best to focus on two things. One, to not lose sight of her guide. That would be disastrous considering the apparent large size of the academy. And two, she tried not to get intimidated by the mass number of bodies bustling about around them. This had always been a set back when she attended school back when she was alive. Adjusting to the sheer number of new faces was never an easy thing to accomplish.
As she gazed down the main hall however she couldn't help but think that the academy was just like high school. The main hall was much like the gym where they'd meet for all their assemblies. Some flashbacks flew through her head then, of being cramped in close proximity of a lot of other students... Was that... The gym? Refocusing her attention back to Kyoya she was just in time to hear about the classrooms. Mandatory classes and electives? It really was just like high school.
"Ah no.", she said as she paused behind her friend. She looked back down the hall they had just came from though, to better grasp the layout of the academy. It definitely wouldn't do her any good to get lost once Kyoya left.

Kyoya smiled amicably at Chiharu before turning her attention back to the tour she was giving. "Alright then," she said, calmly walking towards the classrooms and away from the main hall, "We'll be passing the classrooms on our way to the field, so you can see what you might have to study in the future." The shinigami waved at several spirits she recognized as her acquaintances before adding, "The mandatory classes depends on what division you want to go into."
As the two walked along the hallway, passing the classes, Kyoya made a full turn and started walking backwards; slowly, as to not accidentally hit anyone or anything. Facing away from Chiharu was becoming a bit boring, since she couldn't see her reactions to what she was showing her.
"Speaking of divisions," she began, "Do you know which one you want to go in?" Remembering that spirits living in Rukongai didn't usually know about the divisions the shinigami are divided into, she added, "There are seven divisions, though the first division is reserved for the higher-ups and is very hard to get into." A pause. "Each division specializes in different things. For example, the fourth division specializes in healing, while the fifth specializes in kido." Kyoya tilted her head slightly. "Want me to detail all the divisions and their specialties?"

Chiharu nodded and toggled her focus in and out of the classroom they were passing on their way to the field. Of course, being outside of them led to many difficulties as she couldn't really see what was inside of them. "Ah yes, that makes sense.", she replied remembering what little that she'd already told her of the divisions. From what she currently knew she was far too indecisive on choosing the one she wanted to go in. It'd be pretty much a permanent choice right?
She blinked in surprise as Kyoya spun around to face her as they walked... Wasn't she worried that she might bump into something on the way? Still, the thought of that seemed pretty silly and unlikely.
"I'm really not sure yet.", and that was nothing but the truth. "But a detailed description would be great!", she said, the enthusiasm almost tangible. Perhaps this would be able to help her decide.

"Well, alright then!" the shinigami cheerfully said. "Let's start from the beginning." She lifted an index finger up. "The first division is what you might call an exclusive division," she began, "Only the best of the best gets to be in the division. I think it mostly comprises of ex-captains and people the sotaicho picked, so you'd better work hard if you're aiming for that division." Kyoya grinned at Chiharu. "Though you don't look like the ambitious type to me."
After a short pause, she lifted another finger and resumed her explanation. "The second division is what you might call the 'police' of Soul Society," she calmly said. "They're in charge of patrols and guarding the prison, as well as being the special ops unit." The shinigami's grin turned into a slightly nervous one. "To be honest, I don't really know what they do. You'd be better off asking someone from the division, though I don't think they'd answer everything you ask..."
Kyoya cleared her throat, her smile returning to normal. "Well, let's just move on," she lightly said, lifting another finger. "The third division is the academic division, which, obviously, oversees the shinigami academy. Practically the whole division works here, at the academy, as teachers and such." A pause. "The third division is also in charge of recruiting potential students--just like what I'm doing right now, really." She nodded slightly at Chiharu.
"The fourth division is the healing division," Kyoya continued a moment later. "While every shinigami knows how to do basic healing, the fourth division is comprised of those with superior healing abilities. They're usually present at every major battles, thanks to that." Her expression took on a slightly more stern look as she added, "Oh, and just because they're healers doesn't mean they're weak, alright? Some of them can really kick a** when needed."
The shinigami lifted the last folded finger on her right hand. "And then we have the fifth division--the kido division." She glanced to the side, where several students were training in a large field. "Kido is a lot like what you might call magic, though it's more than just tricks and such. You'll learn more about it once you start studying here." A pause. "Anyway, the kido division is comprised of shinigami specializing in kido and those who have kido-based zanpakuto, though the latter isn't mandatory, I think. They're also the messengers around here."
Kyoya then raised her left thumb. "Next, we have the research division, where the geniuses of Soul Society congregate," she explained. "The sixth division has some of the brightest--and most eccentric--shinigami in Soul Society, all working to create technologies to aid all the other divisions." The shinigami paused for a moment. "You have to really work hard if you want to get in there, though, from what I hear."
Another short pause ensued before she continued. "Last but not least, we have the combat division," she said, raising one last finger. "As its name implies, the division houses some of the best fighters in all of Soul Society." Kyoya paused for a moment. "You could say it's like the opposite of the fifth division in terms of fighting style."
The shinigami smiled at Chiharu. "Well, I suppose that'll be enough for a quick overview," she said, turning back to face the right direction before she bumped into something or someone, "Feel free to ask about a division or two that interests you."

Chiharu blinked and listened on carefully to the descriptions hoping that at least one or two of them would jump out at her right off the bat. The first division definitely didn't seem like the division that she'd like to join. Ex-captains and hand-picked people? Even if she managed to join such an elite squad the thought of it didn't seem all that appealing to her. And of course, as Kyoya so delicately put it she definitely wasn't the ambitious type.
The second division seemed interesting enough. She liked upholding the rules, but as Kyoya delved deeper into the squad her interest in it seemed to transform into fear? Guarding prisons and being part of this "Special Ops" didn't seem all that pleasant to her.
The third division didn't seem all that appealing to her. Mostly because of her distaste of schools or academies in general. When she graduated from here she'd be sure to come back as little as possible. Despite disliking few things, school was definitely near the top of that list.
The fourth division seemed interesting enough. Healing division? That would be rather spiffy, the only turn off about going into that division would be the blood. She wouldn't mind blood if there wasn't too much of it, but being in the medical division you'd have to be involved with a lot of blood and injured people.
Of the five divisions that Kyoya covered the fifth division definitely seemd the most appealing. Kido was much like magic from Kyoya's description and from what she could see for herself in the training field. The kido-based zanpakuto part seemed a little off though. Hers wasn't like that was it? But then again, she had no clue what her zanpakuto was like.
The sixth and seventh divisions definitely weren't gonna be her forte either. She was by no means a genius and the heavens only knew that she wasn't a fighter. Though being a shinigami definitely entailed to having to learn fighting a division based mostly off of it would be reckless thinking on her part.
The choice seemed pretty obvious to her at the moment. "I think that the fifth division has definitely enthralled me the most.", she concluded, following after her.

When Chiharu said that she was most interested in the fifth division, Kyoya simply nodded, a bit disappointed that they might end up in different divisions. 'Oh well, it's not like we'll never meet again,' she quietly thought, 'And the fifth division are the messengers, so...'
"The fifth division, hmm?" the shinigami said, smiling slightly at Chiharu, "Then you'd better learn kido well and hope your zanpakutou is a kido-based one." She grinned at the girl. "Oh, and don't forget about shunpo. Messengers need to be fast, after all."
At that, Kyoya paused, thinking about what else to show Chiharu. She'd seen the main hall, the classes, and the field, so perhaps it was time to show her the living quarters. Or maybe she should ask her first if there were somewhere she wanted to see. Hmm.
"Ne, Chiharu, is there any place you'd like to have a better look at?" she then asked, going with the second choice, "I've only given you an overview of the place so far." A pause. "Or maybe there's something you want to ask about, like 'what's a kido-based zanpakutou' or 'what's shunpo' or stuff like that?" the shinigami continued, "Y'know, stuff I've said but you haven't really understood or something." Her lips curved into a nervous smile. "I just realized I've been using a lot of shinigami terminology without explaining them."

For the most part, Chiharu had found most of what Kyoya said to be... Well, rather confusing to tell the truth. Most of the terminology she'd used was unfamiliar to her, and she'd had trouble keeping up with the fast-paced shinigami. Trying to keep most of what she just said in mind, she prepared her questions silently.
From context reading, she'd gotten a good guess on what each of the unfamiliar words could've meant, but she decided that with this chance she'd ask, just to make certain. It couldn't hurt to ask, could it? "I'm not sure, if you think that there's any place that I should get a better look at then we should go there?", she paused, "Sure, that would probably be good.", she continued with a nervous chuckle. "I mean, I've got a good guess as to what they mean, but I'm not sure, so it can't hurt to be positive, right? But other than 'kido-based zanpakuto' and 'shunpo' I think I've got a fairly good grasp on the other stuff."

Kyoya let out a nervous laugh as she listened to Chiharu's answer. In a way, it wasn't all that surprising; she'd always had the tendency to unconsciously move too fast when explaining. 'Way to go, self,' she silently thought, reprimanding herself.
Sometimes she wondered if this was why she could never be a teacher for long.
Pushing that thought off her mind for now, she turned her attention back to Chiharu. "Well, a kido-based zanpakutou is, uh..." She paused for a moment to think. "It's sort of like a zanpakutou that attacks the...the spirit instead of the body." Another pause. "You could say it's something like...a weapon that targets the mind instead of the body, perhaps? Though there are also types that simply creates kido-based attacks..." The shinigami let out a chuckle. "Well, you'll figure it out in time, don't worry."
Kyoya then moved on to the next term. "Shunpo is basically a skill we use to move at a much higher speed than usual," she explained, sounding a bit unsure, "It's a bit hard to explain...You'll see when you learn how to use it."
The shinigami was silent for a moment before finally giving up on explaining shunpo. "Well, if that's everything, then we should really get you enrolled into the academy," she said with a smile. "We should get back to the main hall. The registration's over there."

An attack to the soul huh? Chiharu wasn't quite sure that she understood, but it was only the first day. Things would clear up after a while... She hoped, but at least there was a second definition to it. One that was easier to understand if anything else. Kido was like magic so a zanpakuto that "shot" out said magic was believable, and most importantly understandable... To an extent.
She tried to keep an open mind as Kyoya briefed her on shunpo. It didn't seem that hard to grasp at least, which was definitely a good thing. "So kind of like an ability to be able to move like a flash of light? I figure that it'd be good for evading enemy attacks or the like, yeah?", she asked with curiosity. It would be the only way to explain why a technique like that had to be taught anyway.
"Yeah I think this is enough for one day. Anymore information and I don't think that I'd be able to retain it all.", she joked. Registration sounded like a good plan now. She was a bit nervous for it, and yet at the same time dreading it. She'd always hated registration at high school so was she right to assume that registration at the Soul Reaper Academy would be any different? "Mkay, lead the way~", she replied with a small smile.
