I thought I'd bring this to all of you since you seem so diverse when it comes to different religions and paths.

I think it's best if I start with a little back story.

I was brought up by a very Roman Catholic mother and a father who grew up Methodist/Greek Orthodox (depending on which parent he went to church with) but is now a self proclaimed Atheist. As you can probably imagine, this lead to a lot of debates and arguments throughout my childhood.

Catholicism however is definitely not the right religion/path for me. Neither are any of the other "mainstream religions". At the same time, ever since I was a child I've always felt a pull towards Paganism and Wicca. As a result I've tried to learn about both and although I still feel a bit of a pull, it has not been enough to decide that I want to definitively practice either. Neither is the fact that I'm pretty sure my grandmother was a secretly practicing pagan (that's another story, though).

This is, I guess, where I need your advice. I know what I do and don't believe in. I don't believe that there is a single being out there who watches over us and who will either send us to heaven or to hell. I do believe that there is a higher power out there that has an affect on all of us. I don't know what that higher power is or might be to me. I do believe in mysticism, mythological beings, tarot, and astrology, but with some skepticism. I do believe in science, but view it with the same skepticism. I do believe in evolution. I don't believe in creationism. I do want to find a path.

Despite all this, I have no clue what to do or where to go to figure out what that path is.

I'm not completely familiar with all of the available religious movements
but I know there are a couple of questionaire websites that will offer different options and give you percentages in regards to how well you might fit in certain systems (although I think it too focused on mainstream)

I don't recall which one I've used and appologize for not testing the following ones in advance to see where they may lead. I'm kind of inbetween the shower and darting off to work
I will check it out later tonight and add more if I can.

I hope you don't mind... I took the first two already and wanted to just post what I got to kind of keep the results to look at later.

Your Results

The top score on the list below represents the faith that Belief-O-Matic, in its less than infinite wisdom, thinks most closely matches your beliefs. However, even a score of 100% does not mean that your views are all shared by this faith, or vice versa.

Belief-O-Matic then lists another 26 faiths in order of how much they have in common with your professed beliefs. The higher a faith appears on this list, the more closely it aligns with your thinking.

How did the Belief-O-Matic do? Discuss your results on our message boards.

The Religious Identity Test
Your Result: Humanist
You are probably a humanist. You approach the world from a natural standpoint, giving little weight to organized religion or traditional dogma and creed. You value reason and experience over superstition and supernatural beliefs. In identifying yourself, you would be inaccurate if you described your religious beliefs as Christian or as consistent with any revelation-based belief system.
Result Breakdown:
78% Humanist
32% Somewhat humanistic, with some supernaturalism
0% Christian

The other two were pretty useless (one had questions that I didn't agree with any of the answers for, so it wouldn't let me finish and the other had a total of 4 questions)

No problem
I usually try to test them out to ensure the results didn't lead to something asking for e-mail addies or was some type of scam. I just didn't have that time today. But i still hoped they might give you some info that might help you in your search.

I've added a couple more to the list

But haven't yet found the one I really liked. Which sucks as it offered a description of the religion and websites for more information

Thanks, I'll take a look at them! 3nodding

Another approach to finding a path is belief analysis. I might warn you, though, that there might not be a 'group' for what you find you believe. With this approach you ask yourself what ideas you hold in your heart: where did we come from, where are we going, what values are important, who guides us, what are life's guideposts? What is the nature of deity, what is the function of humanity, what, if anything, dwells in the realm of spirit? Where does spirit reside?

I would point out that Unitarian Universalism spreads a very broad umbrella. This church is the spiritual home of many neopagans, for example.

Well let's start out with this: You CANNOT allow your parents spritual decisions to affect yours. You choose who/what you wanna be. Not them. If they can't respect that, there's something wrong.

Next is this: try out different things and see what it does for you. Internet survays are not always correct. And your own personal oppinion may have changed since the survay was taken. Do not rely on others to justify things for you (not saying you are) and don't pay attention to the worlds negitivities. There will always be someone telling you what THEY think you should do/be but in the end, all that really matters is what your heart thinks.
