No, I have not heard from any reliable sources that one will be made. I would just like to discuss the possibility and such things as cast, location, dialogue, etc. and problems such as, because there are so many books and movies take time to make while each book spans a relatively short time, the actors would likely grow out of their characters. and it would just be infuriurating if different actors kept playing Drizzt.

Which is why I always thought it would make sense for the movie to be animated, whether that's say, like FF:SpiritsWithin kinda animation dealy or Highlander Quest for Vengeance (I think that's the name) style animation. That seems to me the best way to keep the characters how they are supposed to look without changing visibly changing actors- besides they'd have to computer generate things like some of the monsters anyway so... why not go the whole way? This way the series of movies could go as long as needed/wanted with out any worry about (noticeably) replacing cast or finding the proper place to film.
If it were a live action thing I can't see there being made more than four absolute max. At least I imagine it that because surely take a long time to get each of them done.
Or maybe I'm just not confident in today's film industry....

Unless the maker's of LOTR make it, it'll be crap. Look how they butchered Eragon! It should definately be animated, because again, we wouldn't have to worry about actors.
I think Spirit's Within type animation would be ideal as well. They made that movie when? And it was so advanced! I had no idea for a while into it that it was animated.

I could have sworn there was a movie topic before about this...
Anyway, I'm on the same boat as Kabu: animated would be so much better.

Yea~ there was another topic just like this one- I got lost looking for this one and found that one. XD
And as I saw on the other thread... what IF they instead of movies (because they'd need so many) if they just made a Series? Like direct to DVD animated thing, since I can't say how well I think it would do on TV... some of the culture differences might be frowned upon by the censorship people (unless HBO would host it but....). That thought has nothing to do with my perpetual lack of TV... >.> I sear.

I agree that animated would be the best to go.
If it was a series-long kind of deal, i would like to see it animated like the dragonlance movie.
But if it was to be a trilogy or more of feature-length movies i would like to see it done in the life-like animation style of beowulf.

The problem with feature length films would be deciding which books to use.
I mean, you could have films for certain books and animate the rest. I think real actors would be really cool, but I'd want to see the WHOLE series done, which means they can't do the whole thing with real actors. It's just not plausable.

In a perfect world they would do both.
it would start with the dark elf trilogy being the feature-film trilogy, and then the rest of the book-series would be an animated series.
possible film title: simply "The legend of drizzt"
possible series title: simply "The adventures of drizzt"
i fail im sorry, it tried damnit!!
