There doesn't need to be a reason to explain why I posted this.

But I also realized that this does need to be discussed. In the ATP we are creating our own Aekea, and that can't function properly until we have a set understanding of the government.

So let's talk this out and figure out what we A) Perceive the Aekean government to be and B) Figure out what we want the government to be.

As I said in the other thread, what I've heard and seen of the government is basically that we have no central political figure. For the most part we're probably run like a city-state in the ancient Greek/Roman civilizations. I cannot remember which one it was for the life of me.

Yes there was a leader but they did have huge meetings about what should be done and addressed. They decided as a group for their own city-state. They each had power in this sort of government and I think it was done well.

But people are people and if each had their own power in such a city state it would be bad but for the most part they had to get through everyone else in the council. Majority votes, minority considered.

And since Aekea is not a vary spacious city, I'm sure we have representatives from each district to lower down the number since not everyone can fit into one building.

Direct democracy in ancient times and here we have a representative democracy (due to population, space and plain common sense that we can't have all of Aekea in on building in case of an attack).

X.x; Like I said, we don't have an over all powerful leader. We have a bunch of leaders running Aekea.

well, Hayley's the law enforcer of the town, being the guard captain and all, and I'm..... eh who am I kidding? since when did I ever do anything for the law? But yeah, we need officials that I can defy on a day to day basis.

Well, the way I've been seeing it thus far is rather crude and only from one angle (that being guard's side) since we haven't had much a need to take things further than that.

So there's a lot of holes. I agree we shuld has some of that out.

Assumptions I've Made Up to This Point:
I've been seeing the guard similar to how Barton "appears" to be, except we have better tech and most of our staff is robotic. Basically, there's the guard patrol on the borders and walls and stuff, and the guard sort of doubles as a policing force. I have control over how that's arranged and run and carried out and all that jazz, but I'm not the court or legal system. I don't pass laws, I just enforce them to the best of our abilities. I'm the brute force part of the overarching government. For the sake of modern analogies, the General and the Police Chief. Aekea's a small enough city to not need separate districts with separate chiefs, but we do have a military force at our disposal. Someone needs to organize that. Et voila? That's me. At least, this is how I've been thinking of it.

I'm kept in check by the rest of the government system blob of stuff I don't know the details of. PQ is somewhere in that blob. High up in that blob? We've made allusions to a mayor. I think we maybe have one?

What I'd Like To See:
A demystification of the government. I'm no expert in politics, and I don't have any particularly good ideas to see how it's run. Different braches? We need a judiciary system and a legislative system of sorts, and I'd love to have input on the martial side of things. I made assumptions just for the sake of playing things out, but if people think I have too much power or not enough responsibilty or whatever, speak up. X is not a military overlord or anything, nor should she ever want to be that way. I want input here. xd

Aekea may be a small city but for all we know, it could be densely populated. Residentials may be packed underground bunker areas (Like Ash) since if there's one, there's probably more. Or in the outskirts of town like how Barton has its suburbs set up.

Point of that: We don't know the actual population since the Aekea on the world map is more than likely the downtown variant. Police/military could work under one central power. If the guard is a straight up police force then the need for several different chiefs would be needed.

BUT! Since the guard is a mix between military + law enforcement, I'm sure even if Aekea is a big city (Down town + unknown Suburbs), you can handle it.

As for the mayor bit. . . Wasn't it in the dressing room sub-forum that someone said there was no actual mayor? >___>;; Do we have a scarecrow mayor at least?

BUT, the thing is, aekea isn't a city divided between districts, its a small industrial town. It wasn't even originally meant for Gaians to live in, which is why the residential area for Barton is so huge. The population of this town is made mostly of steel workers, engineers, cyborgs, robots, and the minority that's trying to bring a bit less rust and a little more chrome so to speak.

Alright, so this is what we have so far.

- No overall leader
- We do not have a mayor. But I think we should have a scarecrow of sorts to send off incase there are town meetings.
- We have a Town Hall, but what's in it? Perhaps committee heads have their own little offices inside?
- I have Aekea divided into districts on the aekea map more for my purpose convenience than anything. So let's just say that there are no districts for now.
- We need committee heads. We all seem to think that there is a group making decisions. I honestly see Hayley as one for the Guard and myself as one for the Mechanical Children Union. What other committees should their be?
PostPosted: Sat Nov 07, 2009 6:28 pm

You know, when I think committee, I think of the Shady Self-Appointed Government of a comic I draw in my notebook. They basically spend their time wasting funding on buying pizzas while ignoring any issues. They make it work by allowing the city they rule act as a sort of limited anarchy: you can do and say what you want as long as no one ends up dead, and the basic everyday laws are upheld.

Then again, this is a world of stick-figure Ninjas in an odd love triangle, pirates that are both friends and enemies of ninjas, Vikings, and sociopathic Superheroes. Also, they took over a new city by giving col cereal to those that tried to stand up to them....

Yea, I forgot how this related to the topic on hand...

Well, whatever government we're under, I don't think it's a socialist one....

Sure, having a socialist-based government would mean free health/medical care for everyone, but....let's just say you'll almost have a heart attack when you look at the price tags on other things.... sweatdrop

I completely agree Gera. xD No socialism here. Sorry Marx.

xD Socialism...

I agree with the idea of using committee heads, the issue is finding how to divide the committees. I believe their would be at least be some sort of merchants committee (Gotta keep those merchants happy!)
