Imogen loved going running. Some of her friends and certainly her mother always called it crazy but Imogen had so much energy and sometimes, it was nice to hit the pavement. It wasn’t swing, her first love and it wasn’t relaxing like swimming but it was a great way to burn off some energy. And she really needed to, because from the get go Imo had bundles of energy all day.
Normally she headed out jogging in the mornings, but she’d forgotten to do her Geography homework for this lesson and had had to sacrifice her run this morning to fill in some stupid map. That kind of thing appealed to dear Aggie but Imo…no way. So here she was after dinner, making up for the lost morning. The Barren Pines campus was a good place to go jogging as well. This morning she planned to take the winding little path – every morning she took one of several different ways. Kept her from getting bored.
With her iPod on, she set a steady pace, thinking about the dance meet she was going to tomorrow.

Was he suppose to be in class? Yes. Was he going to class? Eventually.
Jude had not done his homework either, an event that, for him, was not abnormal in the slightest. His teacher for one of them had really been on his case lately, going as far as threaten to get him expelled (an empty threat, but Hell if he knew it). Education could piss off, he didn't need it. Free board and food, though...
Something was really wrong with this place, yet he couldn't leave. Not just because he had no other place to go, not even because the one person he was actually "loyal" to was here; he didn't know why, he just couldn't. All but Barren Pines lost it's luster quick. Here, he felt like there was something he couldn't name worth staying for.
And free food. Which was great, seriously.
For that he'd study. He'd even go to class when he had to. (But only when he had to.)
"Imogen," he greeted in surprise, looking up from his book just as she was reaching him on her jog. Surprise because a) he'd never seen her over here, and b) he remembered her name. One of the peculiar things around here was everyone knew everyone. Social butterfly or not, it was eerie for him to recite a name and match it with a face every time. No one was this social.
Were they?
It was better if he didn't think about much.
Imogen must be exotic enough to remember, he decided, racking his brain for anything else about her. "You should be careful. Running around campus by yourself isn't safe."

She heard her name over her music, so she unhooked her headphones and was in time to hear the rest of what Jude said. And of course she remembered him. Everyone seemed to remember everyone here – did anyone else notice that? – and because it was in her nature she smiled at him. Imogen tried to be nice to everyone. It just made things nicer if you did. Still, she didn't know him that well so she tried not to make a bad impression.
“Hello.” She came over to where he was. “Really? Why wouldn’t campus be safe? Last year everything was pretty fine and there’s never been any reports of any senshi on campus.”
Sailor Nea came to mind when she thought of senshi. She’d been the senshi who’d got the most media attention. But even if she was lovely to look at - lovely in a not-distinct-features-stand-out kind of way - even Imo couldn’t find anything to like there. Little did she know that ‘’Sailor Nea’ was on campus right now and one of the teachers to boot.
"Know something I don't?" She jested.

Last year.
Hearing things like "last year" bothered him. Unoffensive words in an inadvertently offensive ways. To think he had stayed here so long made his stomach turn. Whatever was holding him here best find him soon. Hadn't he swore up and down when he left home he'd be seeing the world? There was such a nagging feeling to still go and do it, but again, he couldn't. And again, he didn't know why. It was driving him nuts. Which way was up these days?
Jude shook his head and ran his hand through his hair, brows furrowed in an expressive manner that gave away his feelings, but not his thoughts. It had gotten him in trouble before.
Thinking about things was easy enough. Thinking about problems wasn't. Under normal circumstances he was too optimistic to bother. Shame these weren't normal circumstances.
Something was decidedly not normal about this place.
But then the optimism shined through reliably and he thought with a snort and a hint of a smug look: No, I'm thinking too much. Just because I can't get a few doors open.
On the subject of why he had worried for Imogen, that could be easily explained; she was a girl. "I know a lot of the boys better than you do, I bet, seeing as I live on the floor with most of them. I wouldn't trust all of them around girls like you. There's prettier ones, yeah, but you're up to standards to be stalked by some creep. No doubt about that." His words lacked the purity of his intentions. Dumb boy.
"I'll run with you to make sure none of them bother you."

“Well, I don’t know whether I should be flattered or insulted – though there’s no denying there are prettier girls.” Imogen’s eyebrows rose expressively. Jude Lawson might know more about the inner workings of boys than Imogen did, but he needed to brush up on his knowledge of girls. Most didn’t like being told they weren’t as pretty as others. Imogen didn’t mind so much but it struck her as sort of funny. Then again, did she really want to qualify as stalkable?
She watched as Jude shook his head then seemed to laugh to himself smugly. That coupled with the fact he seemed to expect worse than the usual Lucas-bad-touches on campus was a bit worrying. Imo hadn't heard about some of the rather weird things that were happening at Barren Pines yet. So Imogen’s surprised amusement turned to concern, and she bit her lip before asking -
“It's a kind offer but are you okay? You see a bit… agitated.”

Jude never understood the insults people read from just being told the truth. He was not one of those guys who aimed to hurt with his words; he was one of those guys who could do it on accident and not even realize it. He had learned that girls (and boys who wanted to be girls) were overly-sensitive, but he always forgot to remember it. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you. I'm just saying, they're out there. But you're very pretty, too, still. You could go to Crystal Academy and blend right in."
Ah, Crystal Academy. The school of lookers. What guy didn't fancy that place?
Convinced he had righted a wrong he wasn't fully aware of to begin with, Jude shut the book with a sound more familiar to him than the one that came with cracking one open. Reading was not his favorite pastime.
"I'm fine," he assured her. For that moment, he was. Bring on the storm clouds. "Don't worry about me any. You're a nice girl to ask."

"I more funny than anything else I suppose, and nice to know I'd fit in with the Crystal girls. I wouldn't mind going there much as I love it here." That close to that many pretty girls? Count Imogen in! Who knew, maybe her true love was a Crystal girl, and the decision to take the free scholarship at Barren Pines had postponed their fated meeting...but her one could just as easily be here too she supposed. All Imogen knew for sure was that her true love had to be somewhere. Still, it was nice to imagine, some lovely girl over at Crystal -
- Wait a tick. Now was not the time to go into daydream mode. Focus on the boy, Imo, and listen to what he says.
"And so long as you're okay." She nodded before gesturing to the paths. "I was going to jog for another ten or twenty minutes though, so unless you want to tag along, you don't have to worry about seeing me back to the dorms."

Jude turned his head toward the indicated path, having been daydreaming about the Crystal Girls a bit himself in a much, much different way. She was thinking of how lovely they were, and he was thinking about how much stuff they must have at their houses. Expensive stuff, thousand dollars in jewelry even. Stuff they didn't even look at anymore. Stuff they didn't need.
"I'm fine, and I'm also on the track team, so of course I'll run with you. As long as you want, my lady."

"Thankyou" - kind sir, she almost added, teasingly. No one but her mother had called her a lady that she could think of. It was kind of cute. Even if he seemed a bit paranoid, Jude seemed nice. Imogen couldn't imagine something worrisome happening on campus. Maybe a bad prank or pervy fellow students or godawful maths tests....but nothing really bad. Still, if it made Jude happier, she didn't mind him coming along. It'd be company!
"So, track huh? Is that what got you the place here or is it just for fun?"

Again he smiled at her, thankful for the temporary relief from the madness this school had bestowed on him. He always found it within one of the girls here. While he may have seemed more bias against them than anything at times, in reality, Jude could prefer female company to that of his fellow man if the circumstances were right. They were softer, in his view, and sometimes he needed that instead of the fist fights that were bound to occur in Marcel's company.
"Mm, yeah," he answered, somewhat distantly. There she went, dashing his hopes of avoiding thinking about the damned school for a little why. He couldn't very well blame her; Imogen was not a mind-reader to his knowledge. "That's the only reason I would be. And you?"

"I run for fun really and to burn off some energy. I get a bit stir-crazy if I'm cooped up to long, y'know?" She answered, trying to think up something more interesting to talk about as they ran than school and running habits. Or maybe he'd prefer silence? If he did, bad luck on Jude because she was usually a chatterbox. You couldn't get to know someone if you didn't talk after all.
"What about you? What do you enjoy doing?"

Jude did not prefer silence, but he would have preferred another topic. This one made him think of all those things he was, for once, trying not to muse over. What happened to the him that could avoid his problems better? Ugh.
"Yeah, I do know," he agreed. This school was a prison, trapping them here. "I run a lot, and..." And, damn, was that all he had? Not much on the hobby list, though he could have sworn he must have done something with his time before Barren Pines Prison. "Boxing with Marcel. The dark guy with dark hair. How do you like it here?"
They were already on the subject and there was no going back, so why not?
