Yamato sighed contentedly as he walked down the path through the park. His faithful labrador Cola was trotting happily in front of him, her black fur in sharp contrast to the already changing leaves. He had been incredibly busy with school, baseball, kendo club and the shop lately and finally on his day off he'd come to the park to unwind and play with his faithful dog.
He must have been lost in his thoughts because he suddenly felt Cola licking his hand somewhat impatiently. "Sorry girl," Yamato said with a smile, patting her on the head. "C'mon, want to play?"
He lifted up a frisbee and Cola immediately perked up, excited. The moment he had thrown it he realized he'd thrown it far too hard. And it was heading for someone.
Oh crap.

A soft breeze ruffled Azrel's dirty blond hair as he stretched and rubbed his eyes tiredly. Having spent the whole of last night reading through another volume of the Bible of Light, he felt he deserved a short break. He didn't usually pull all-nighters, but he wanted to get through the seminary work as soon as possible even if it would take him another six to seven years before he could become a priest properly.
He had finished attending the local Seminary for today and decided to take a short break in the park. As he looked towards the duck pond, he saw an unoccupied bench right in front of it. He strolled over and carefully placed his bag containing ancient texts and clerical clothing down before taking a seat himself. He dug around inside the bag, knowing that there should be a packet of crushed crackers somewhere. He liked to snack on things when he was reading. It helped him concentrate.
Finally finding it at the bottom, he had just ripped open the package and was just about to feed the ducks when a frisbee suddenly smacked him on the back of his head. The frisbee landed next to his bag on to the bench. Startled, Azrel dropped the packet and the ducks gathered quickly and started fighting for the crumbs.
Involuntarily, his teal-colored eyes teared up and Azrel rubbed the back of his head. Grimacing slightly, he picked up the frisbee and looked around for the owner.

Yamato mentally kicked himself when the frisbee collided with the boys head. "Sorry!" he called out, running after the frisbee. Cola was already bounding over to where the boy was gleefully, looking for the frisbee.
"Sorry," Yamato said again once he caught up to Cola and the boy. "I threw it too hard. I didn't mean to hit you. Are you okay?" Cola was watching the boy in anticipation, waiting for him to throw the frisbee. She knew better than to jump on people. Yamato went around to the the front of the bench and almost stepped on the mass of ducks squabbling for the cracker crumbs. With a small jolt, he realized that the boy looked like he was about to burst into tears.
I didn't throw it that hard, did I? Yamato thought worriedly. "I didn't hurt you did I?" he asked.

A black labrador came bounding up to him and it seemed happy that he was holding the frisbee. The ducks had completely ignored the dog and continued their mad scramble for the crumbs. Slightly frowning in dislike of that large black fur ball, Azrel was about to throw the frisbee directly into the pond. However at that moment, someone's voice called out to him in apology.
A second later, the voice was revealed to belong to a black-haired boy as he walked up next to him while just narrowly missing stepping on the ducks. Mentally, Azrel mockingly applauded him at his skillful dodge of the ducks as the frown instantly disappeared. It was replaced with a small grimace and Azrel blinked back a few tears as he peered up at the boy through long eyelashes. He slowly replied, "I-I'm not too sure."
Azrel was glad that mutt made no motion of coming closer. He really didn't want to deal with it and the boy at the same time since dogs never seemed to like him. Hoping that it wouldn't jump him as he held out the frisbee in the owner's direction, he inquired, "This is yours then?"
Then vaguely gesturing at a general area on the back of his head that was hit by the frisbee, Azrel quietly asked,
"U-um, do you think you could check and see if I'm bleeding? I think I-I'm feeling a bit woozy."
Telling himself that it was always good to pretend to be more hurt than he actually was, he mentally tensed as he prepared himself for contact with another person.
Azrel fluttered his eyelashes as if in pain and then winced a bit before saying, "Sorry for troubling you..."

Yamato blinked as he took the frisbee from the boy. Bleeding? Could he even throw frisbees that hard? Was that even possible? Still, not wanting to seem cold, Yamato carefully pushed the boy's head down slightly to examine it.
Phew, no blood. "I think you're fine," Yamato said. "It probably hurts more than the damage there actually is." He smiled in an attempt to console the boy who still looked like he was going to cry. Cola seemed to realize that there would be no frisbee for a while and decided to go after the ducks instead.
"You'll be fine," Yamato said, standing up. "I'm Yamato, can I buy you a soda or something as an apology?"

As Azrel's head was tilted forward, he mentally frowned at the feeling of being touched. He could feel the muscles on his face freezing up and mentally forcefully shut the feeling away. It was only for a brief moment, so he'd have to endure it as he made himself relax.
However Azrel still mentally grinned a little as the boy introduced himself and attempted to console him by offering to buy him a drink. It was worth it despite how close he was to losing his facade. It was a good thing he had been facing away from Yamato.
"A-ah, I guess I'm just terrible when it comes to pain."
As the relieved looking boy stood up, Azrel tentatively touched the back of his head, locating a small bump before smiling softly up at him.
"Thank you Yamato, a drink would be nice. Where do you suggest?"
Azrel felt himself twitch slightly as the mangy animal leaped at the ducks. He was glad that it hadn't leaped at him, he didn't want it near him at all. But Azrel brushed back that thought and instead asked politely, "What about your pet? Is he..she? okay with leaving soon?"
While waiting for Yamato's reply, Azrel stood up and patted down his white shirt and black pants, ridding himself of any stray crumbs. Then carefully making sure that his bag was firmly closed, he slung it over one shoulder. Turning back towards Yamato, he glanced over at the dog and then half-smiled at him.
"Ready to leave when you are."

Cola gave Yamato a small whine, seemingly knowing what was being said. Yamato gave her a smile and patted her on the head gently. "Sorry girl," he said. "We'll have to come back tomorrow." Cola looked at him, mopey. Still she obediently stayed by Yamato's side as they prepared to leave. Yamato pulled out his wallet.
"Well," he said, counting the bills. "I don't have much on me, is a vending machine good? There's one near the park entrance..." Yamato stopped. He had introduced himself, but the boy hadn't.
"What did you say your name was again?" Yamato asked, trying to seem as un-intrusive as possible.

Ugh dogs. Azrel really did not like them at all. It was not often he had company his own age, as most of the students at the seminary were a bit older than him, but he decided to dodge the question about his name a bit longer. He did not know if Yamato was worth befriending yet. The fact that he had a dog was bothersome and it irked him slightly.
Cautiously rubbing the back of his head again, Azrel smiled slightly at Yamato.
"A vending machine sounds good. It'll help too if it's cold."
Azrel glanced towards the ducks and mentally apologized for not being able to feed them properly before looking back at Yamato. He'd have to come back another time and bring some bread crusts with him. Even though he disliked dogs, he had a soft spot for the ducks in the park.
A polite smile now firmly in place, he started heading towards the entrance of the park.
"So, Yamato, apart from walking your dog.. what brings you out to the park today? How's school coming along?"

Yamato frowned slightly. Still no name. Maybe he was running away? His backpack did seem to be rather stuffed with whatever was in it. Yamato mentally shrugged, maybe he shouldn't push the issue. He tapped his side slightly and Cola came to his side, eager. He smiled at her and threw the frisbee, this time decidedly far from anyone else. He could play with Cola while they walked. Cola ran off gleefully.
"This way," Yamato said, heading back the way that he came. "Not too far." The leaves crinkled and cracked under his feet. He studied the boy a little.
"I just came to walk Cola," Yamato replied, blinking. "I've been busy so she hasn't been getting enough attention." He took the frisbee from Cola as she returned and threw it again. "School's been fine. I'm almost done."
Was this boy from his school?

Azrel noted the slight frown on the boy's face and the way he eyed his bag before he returned his attention to his pet.
Oops, maybe I dodged the question too much.
Azrel would be suspicious too if a boy his age was walking around and wouldn't mention his name when asked twice. Ah well, he'd give him his name when deemed necessary.
Mentally thankful that there was going to be limited contact with the dog as Yamato played with it, he felt himself relax slightly. Ignoring the way Yamato was looking at him, he followed after Yamato and said, "That's an interesting name. How long have you had her?"
Teal colored eyes twinkled at Yamato as he held back a smile at the name.
"Almost done school huh..."
Azrel trailed off thoughtfully, looking wistful in the distance, and then as if he had not be watching where he was going, clumsily tripped and fell towards Yamato.

Still, no name, he decided that this person really didn't want his name to be known. Yamato threw the frisbee again as Cola took off after it. "I've had Cola since I was a kid. Kinda grew up together. She's good dog." He gave her a quick pat as she came romping back to him.
"I'm a senior in high school," Yamato said as he threw the frisbee. "Once I graduate I can get a steady job and support myself. Maybe college..." The boy suddenly tripped and Yamato instinctively grabbed him before the boy crashed into him. His kendo reflexes paid off well and he held the boy strongly.
"You okay?" Yamato asked. Was he sick? Yamato hoped he had just tripped.

Azrel forced himself to relax as Yamato caught him in firm arms. Even so, he could still feel every muscle in his body tensing. He still could not stand too much contact with anyone even if he had mentally prepared himself for it. Hoping that Yamato had not realized how tightly wound up he was, Azrel peered up at Yamato through blond lashes.
"I..I just tripped. ....You have good reflexes. Thank you."
His hand gently brushed against the nape of Yamato's neck as Azrel snaked an arm around his shoulders. As he carefully put his weight against Yamato and straightened up again, he saw his hand shaking slightly against Yamato. Quickly clenched it into a fist so the tremor would not be apparent he continued,
"I tend to be quite clumsy at times. I'm sorry for troubling you again."
Then stepping back from Yamato and looking down to 'check on his bag', he took small shallow breaths as he mentally regained control over the hands that betrayed how much he didn't like touching or being touched in general.
This boy was interesting though. He had quick reflexes and was able to catch him with his heavy bag like it was nothing despite how he looked. Yamato also didn't seem all that interested in him, so he'd be a good cover if he ever needed to hide from that fake-priest. Azrel would never acknowledge him as a proper Father. Shutting that thought away, Azrel looked back up. Smiling softly at Yamato, he said,
"I think... There's no need for you to buy me a drink. After all, I've only caused you trouble."
Pausing for a moment, he continued,
"It's good that you're still in school. I've never been to one properly since I help out at the Church and the seminary sometimes. If you ever need anything, just ask for Azrel. You should be able to find me there."
It wasn't exactly a lie. He did have to help out as part of his priest training when he wasn't busy studying texts. He just didn't mention anything about him becoming a priest.
"In fact, let me buy you a drink. I think I've troubled you enough for today. I would like to apologize for interrupting you playing with Cola as well."

Yamato gave him a small smile. "Of course I have good reflexes," he said with a grin. "My hobbies are kendo and baseball." He decided not to mention the pile of old school space opera manga he had in his room. His one geeky tendency. After all, he was named after them.
The boy steadied himself and regained his footing, he was shaking slightly. Maybe he really was sick? Yamato wondered vaguely. They were almost to the park entrance by this point and Cola brought back the frisbee one last time, seemingly knowing that playtime was over for the day.
"Nice to meet you, Azrel," Yamato said cheerily. The name sounded eerily familiar, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. "You work at the Church? Do you run errands or something?" He decided not to mention he fact he wasn't a believer. He didn't want to offend his new found acquaintance after all. He had respect for people of the church, he just didn't believe.
"No no," he said, already going for his wallet. "I said I'd buy you a drink and I will."

"Kendo and baseball... That sounds interesting.." Azrel sighed a bit. "I don't think I'm much suited for sports though. Maybe if I wasn't so... clumsy."
Watching as that dog returned and they neared the entrance of the park, Azrel glanced cautiously over at Yamato as he was asked about the Church. He wouldn't happen to know that fake priest did he? After all in this relatively 'small' town, it wouldn't be a surprise if Yamato was a believer in the Light. He could have met that fake priest, and then he wouldn't be a safe person to hide with in the end.
Looking straight into Yamato's brown eyes while continuing to smile softly, he asked, "I just help out at the Church sometimes. Are you a believer? I don't think I've ever seen you at the Church before..."
It would be much better for him if Yamato did not believe, but he had to make sure since he wasn't always at the Church. Then blinking to lessen his stare and pouting a bit, he said, "If you insist Yamato, thank you."

Yamato gulped a little. Already they'd moved on to religion? It was more common to be a believer than not and Yamato was one of the nots. He rifled through his wallet to avoid the question temporarily. "What would you like to drink?" he asked. He then selected a soda for himself.
"I'm not really... a believer," Yamato said finally. "I believe in facts. Don't really go to the church." He sipped his soda a little nervously.
