As some of you probably already know, it's the book that inspired the movie directed by Henry Selick. It's considered as a horror novel, but I think of it more as a ghost story. And for a book geared towards the younger audience, it was actually pretty scary.

What do you all think of the book?

i really liked the book, and i adore neil gaiman, but

it kind of reminded me alot of "thief of always" by clive barker.

...birds creep over tin roofs, like criminals with tap shoes...
I Hear Thunder

Have not read "thief of always" so i cant compare.

But i liked the book, even thou i felt it was aimed at a younger audience, trying to get my cousin to read it atm :3

And it had that gaiman feel to it, but not as much i would have liked. And i think the movie was made so that it correlated with the book alot.

But Theres No Rain
...stain the glass with windows, extortionate and cold stare...

I haven't read Theif of Always, either, so I can't compare the two.

I'm afraid that I'm not familiar with that Gaiman feel as of yet. Because I was interested in the movie I thought I'd read the book first, so this is my first book by him that I've read. However, I'm certainly interested in reading more of his work. 3nodding

I have to hurry up and see the movie so I can see how the two correlate. I'd like to see the similrities and differences between the book and movie.

a bit about "thief of always" -

it's about a boy who is unhappy at home..

he finds a wonderful place full of magic where he can do whatever he wants..

the owner of the house is trying to get his soul....

sound familiar?? ;D

i really liked both of them, i just couldn't help but notice some similarites.

Ah, I see. They do sound very similar. I ought to put Theif of Always on my To-Read-List so I can see for myself how similar the two are. :3

I think it is aawesome. I see it as a ghost story with some horror as well

Yeah, I guess there are some horror aspects to the book. Like the chapter when Coraline finds The Other Miss Spink and Miss Forcible fused together and stuck to the wall of their apartment. The discription of that was pretty scary and could definitely fit into the horror genre.

Oh! So I finally got around to watching the movie. Henry Selick did an amazing job with it. There were a few big differences from the book, but they fit in so well into the movie and it didn't take away from the story at all. I loved it.

I've also seen the film and read the book. I loved the film it was different, but still really good and it felt close to the book. Despite the changes.

I should re-read the book again sometime, I can't really remember it.
