Japanese is a language made up of three alphabets and they are hiragana {hih-rah-gah-naha], katakana {kah-tah-kah-nah} and kanji {kah-n-jih}. The language evolved from Chinese, this is reason why some of the wording looks the same or similar, like for instance, the date 8日12月2009年。{8/12/09}.

{This is only some of the thousands of Kanji}

To be literate in Japanese you need to know at least 2000 kanji.

私のお名前はミランダです。
十七歳の高校生の女の人です。
オーストラリア人です。

After a lot of hard work and study, you should come out with the above sentences. Please don't be scared of learning Japanese, start from the very basics.

つずく。。。

When I think of Japanese culture, I think of the customs.

Did you know:

-You can't wear shoes inside. (I'm sure everyone would know that already)
-Using chop sticks inappropriately (ie. passing food to other people chop sticks to chop sticks, waving around your chop sticks, stabbing your food with chop sticks as if it were a fork).
-Japanese don't usually shake hands when meeting for the first time (unless a hand is extended out to you, then that means it's ok)
-When meeting for the first time, to be safe it's good to bow lowish.
-Hugging and kissing in public is not acceptable nor do Japanese hold hands.
-Always be extra polite, unless with family, lover and really close friends.
-When you meet someone for the first time, use their last name plus ~san on the end. (Example Tomoko Yamada would be Yamada san)
-Never stick your chop sticks in you food sticking up, it means it's food for the spirits.

There's still more to come, please add some on ^_^

I heard that Japanese didn't bake cookies or other sweeties and they don't know taste of cherry, but it's may be just gossip.
Anyway i love Japanese culture. I can read and read and rave about Geishes.

I think that was gossip, I'm sure they bake them. I love geishas too, have you ever seen the movie Memoirs of a Geisha?
