When I first saw firefly, I fell in love with Jayne Cobb--especially when he gets the hat his Ma sends him in the episode "The Message". I always wanted to knit one for my boyfriend, but I was afraid he wouldn't want to wear it. As Wash so tactfully put it, "A man walks down the street in that hat, people know he's not afraid of anything." Well I was looking up knitting patterns online and was delighted to find a pattern for Jayne's hat. I showed it to him and he got all giddy like a little boy and said, "Honey, will you knit me one?!" So two days later, this is the finished product! (And James was sweet enough to model for me too!)

Wow, you did a really good job on that.
I was in Austin, Texas in the US showing some computer software I'd designed for a company and my husband and I went to this anime convention called Ikkicon and there was a booth there that called themselves The Austin Browncoats. They had a lot of merchandise and there was a lady making Jayne's hats and I bought one. My husband laughed at me, but I wore it all day.

Bravo, and well done! I would wear it. though the friend that introduced me to the awesomeness that is Firefly (Several years ago now) is more partial to wearing Hawaiian shirts. Ah well, different peoples, different brand of crazy.

In fact it was the first thing I'd actually knitted (well, besides a few squares when I was like ten). It only required knitted and purling. (I so decided to learn how to knit just so I could make one, but now I totally love knitting.) The pattern
