Because of the pain and suffering(he goes mute for quite some time), Vlad rips the ghost out of him, hoping to alleviate his sadness. Instead his ghost half turns out to be snarky and independent, and insists on being called Phantom(and doesn't go crazy and fuse with Vlad's ghost half. Seriously, i never understood that....). Eventually the now-human Danny meets and marries Emily--an OC of mine--and they have a kid too.
