[An attempt at rationalizing the variety of different creatures within a fantasy realm. More development on this idea to come. Please critique biggrin ]
Dragons are not born reptiles, mammals, or insects.. The eggs are fertilized by whatever genetic information it comes into contact with. Once it obtains sufficient genetic material to be fertilized, it begins to mature using the inducted genetic information to guide its growth. During the fertilization stage it is possible for the genetic information of more than one organism to contaminate the egg, bringing about a melding; A dragon egg primarily exposed to humans and secondarily felines will take fewer genetic attributes from the second exposure. The resulting creature's distribution of genetics is not completely understood. The resulting dragon from this combination became known as the elves, Intelligent humanoids with exceptional agility, fighting/hunting instincts, and sensitive hearing. Dragons may be sterile, being a single unique entity, or fertile, capable of interbreeding with the primary genetic donors and creating a new species .
Dragon eggs reside at the edges of the celestial realm. They come to us as meteors, embedding themselves in the earth as seeds awaiting activation.

I like this, but it's not clear why these eggs are called dragon eggs. Do they come from dragons? Also, are creatures like elves sterile too?
