I thought I would start a thread for my unstructured divination work....sort of a stream-of-consciousness series.
This story, by its nature, is being taken up in the middle. I have read the cards for most of my adult life and have filled notebooks with readings and my interpretations. Now, there's a good point aside - keep a reading journal and revisit your entries so you can refine your insights.
Currently my angst revolves around work so I got out my "Bright Idea" deck (author: Mark McElroy). I wanted ideas on how to cope but only received reiterations of the basic issues. Gah. Need to work on my questions.

So, simple enough, why make it complicated? Where should I begin? Having an untenable situation and needing to change are two ideas that I start with, in considering my workplace issues. I need focus, someplace to put my first foot on the way to that goal: making things different (and hopefully better).
Shuffling doesn't go well and a couple cards fall out! I take this as a sign and use them.....and then draw on top of them to explore the issues these initial cards speak of. I end up with five cards, four of which are trumps...... Trumps or Majors carry a bit more weight....

I'm still working on this. There are many depictions of my problems, few about solutions and very little advice. It makes me wonder if the ultimate answer is that there is no good solution, that I am truly doomed to beat my head against the wall in this situation. These sorts of messages are the hardest to find: that you are asking for something that will not resolve into a specific answer.

When the cards seem to be going in circles with their messages it is time to switch strategies! I backed up and asked questions to which I know the answers (or at least I think I know the answers!), keeping it simple. What am I working towards? duh. 'Completion' then 'Exhaustion' and, finally, 'Achievement.'

Another strategy, available to those of us with more than one tarot deck, is to put down the one set of cards and take up another. I used my trusted New Vision deck and let them talk to me without specific questions.
And the message changes..... I get the Knight of Swords reversed: going nowhere fast and not liking it one bit! But then....the Ace of Pents and the Page of Wands, new ideas and the potential for income but then overlaid by the 2 of cups as an obstacle card and the 8 of wands to top it off....so my husband will put the brakes on the whole scenario but I'm waiting for a message.... Outside influences, laid to the side are the Hierophant and the Hermit, the mentor and going it alone. Hmmm, need to find my guiding light.

Okay, pix of the decks I've been using: Tarot of the New Vision is a LoScarabeo deck and can be seen: HEREThe Bright Idea deck is from US Games and can be seen: HEREAeclectic is a great site for looking at tarot art, has reviews and forums. The New Vision deck is a Rider-Waite-Smith type of tarot with a twist: the pictures are turned 180 degrees in perspective. You get wild readings using this in conjunction with a normal RWS. The Bright Idea deck is unconventional with the usual tarot structure overlaid by a modern sensibility.

I'm big on reading about work and life issues....I am of the opinion that working for a living gets in the way of living my life! This is very evident when I drew the Ace of Cups, the Knight of Wands and the 6 of Cups, all reversed. Work is emotionally draining, blunts my creative impulses and was never what I set out to do so long ago when I left childhood. In this case, the blocking card would be a positive thing, a direction, something to throw in the path to divert me: the Knight of Swords. So an abrupt change of direction and ideas should be undertaken - don't pause to think, act on instinct and rush headlong! The first footstep: the 8 of swords reversed and, for a 'who will help' the 8 of pentacles reversed. So many reversed cards.....It is almost like all ideas should be stood on their heads.

The chance to run away hasn't arrived, my Knight has not ridden into my life. I can be patient, at least most of the time. Anyway, a search for some coping mechanisms: I took the Tarot of Metamorphosis out of the chest for consideration.
This is a LoScarabeo deck whose emphasis is change. Every aspect is a variation on transformation, even those cards which usually signal a stasis. An interesting overlay of meaning, which I'll try to incorporate.
The first three cards are the 6 of cups reversed, unhappy memories, the Hierophant reversed, unproductive and harmful beliefs and the 9 of swords, here showing the picture of Dorian Grey. This last is a very negative card, horror hiding behind something beautiful, a price paid through passing the effort off to someone or something else. The negativity obscures all. This is a picture I can relate to but no direct advice yet.
More reverses: 8 of cups, 2 of cups, 4 of batons, all upside down. Okay, here is a synthesis: it is not just the self or those closest to me but a remaking, a new structure, that will help. It is almost like I have been looking for a way to change things in all the wrong places.
the crossing card is the Knight of pentacles, a somewhat fearsome rendition of this card. but he is patient and works hard at his transformation. For help I draw the 5 of cups, which is a harsh lesson: a seemingly endless task of rolling the boulder uphill. But remember back to the picture of Dorian Grey: illusion is at work here and what I may require is a change of perception before I can expect a change in reality.

I am really curious about this Metamorphosis deck.....so....I ask what I need most to change....
I draw the 3 of pentacles, which shows a translucent blue Hindu goddess suspended over a city skyline which seems mostly composed of church spires. The building of the spirit here concerns the ascendence of New Gods, the energizing of a New Faith...I wonder if I need new ideas and the breathing of life into that new perspective I saw in the previous reading. Perhaps I need a shift in the deity I work with.
and here I thought it was all about work and other such mundane things.
