Overview:
Parasite Eve 2 is a major step-down from the previous game, which only attempted to bring out more of its RPG side. In PE2, there are a number of different but beneficial elements. No "Active Time Bar", which controls the order of actions during battle. The "range dome" now lets you hit off-screen targets. And you are free to choose whether or not you want fight. Thankfully, these additions to the game that were the critical bits that enabled you to battle successfully against the creatures.
Ah, yes, now for the creatures. I must say, these were a little bit more of a challenge than in the last game. When I first started playing, I got to a, um, eh, I'm not sure whether if it's a monster or human. But anyways, I got to "something" and it was called No. 9. I thought he was the most aggravating, hardest thing ever! (Oh, and I loved the whole cat-and-mouse get-up in the battle) But after I beat him, I realized he was only a small piece of what I would have to fight later. The horse/goat/human was annoying as well, repeatedly knocking you down. And don't get me started on those Golem things. The bosses weren't even as bad as the normal monsters. The inferno/elephant/giant for example, was too basic for me. So to sum it up, really the only thing I worried about in most battles was if I had enough ammo, MP, and guns.
The storyline seemed a little too much like a Resident Evil game. Aya always met someone new and then they died or ran away or she'd had to go save them. But I liked that fact that they kept the character range on check, not adding too many or too little. My favorite scene from the whole game has to be, strangely, the woman transforming in the diner (and no, you pervy guys, NOT the shower scene!) And this game, unsurprisingly, was made into a Japanese movie (which was an epic FAIL). I lol'd at the beginning where it shows a bird flying down onto the screen. Haha, it looked sooo fake.
But the game, itself had not too much of that wanna-be scary or that perfect-RPG. It balanced them out quite well.
My Rating: 8 out of 10
