I remember only once seeing it successfully done. It was during a game with a small, but wooded field of play. They also had a dedicated reeve that stayed in the area of the caster to verify exactly when and where the spell went off. Nobody knew what was going on till it was done.

I've seen it pulled off a number of times. It requires full team cooperation. Step 1:At the beginning of the game have your full team advance, 2:move yourself to a very distant location without drawing attention to yourself, 3:have your team occupy the enemy for the whole five minutes.

Ok, So, Once at Dragon's rage (DR, my groups event to the kingdom) Me and one of my Friend's, who was a much older guy, who literally ONLY playes wizard, came up with the idea of both of us casting doomsday. I was like "WHy the hell not?!?" I figure, we'll cast proflame on each other and throw a remain active fireball back and forth, recasting it every few minutes. Now, we weren't being discreet about it, we were both in sync with one another, counting aloud "DOOMSDAY #X". We had figured someone would catch on, with close to 150 people on the field...they didn't. We both turn, shoulder to shoulder, to see the entire (wide open) field, making sure we can't see each other, and screamed D-Day! The reeve saw, and informed everyone through a bull horn. All who were immune to death or monks of the appropriate level, were hunted down and killed.
