Potential recruit - Little_Mika_89. In order to demonstrate your skills to the Senior members of the Shinigami clan all you need to do is respond to a roleplay situation. Once we are satisfied with what you have shown us, we shall end the roleplay here and give your our judgement. If you're accepted you'll be invited to the guild and allowed to post in the Main Thread.
This try-out thread is for the applicant and the Seniors only, unless we specifically request the assistance of other members.
Your scenario begins below:
It was well known around Durem and even wider still that the Shinigami Library was the place to go if anyone needed rare or unique books. The head librarian, a young man known at Guyy Myurr, was very familiar in auction and literary circles as the man to sell books to. He would pay almost any price for a rare book, no matter its condition or language. As such an awful lot of magical books and books on ancient and forgotten subjects lined the walls of his library. It was remarkable that somehow he managed to have his team translate even the most obscure tomes. Truth was he did that himself. It was his hobby.
What was not so well known was that the most unique thing in the library were not the ancient books but the residents. Most people never noticed, offering little more than a glance at the staff. Some who looked noticed little clues here and there. Unusually coloured eyes like the head librarian himself, slightly pointed ears, perhaps a glimpse of a tail, or claws, or fangs. These were not ordinary people at all for the most part. Even the little blonde girl often seen organising the shelves seemed to stare without blinking at anyone she found interesting. The Shinigami Library was the secret home of the Shinigami Clan, a mixed up group of mercenaries and strays who had been brought under the care of the Shinigami Seniors in return for their loyalty and hard work.
One of the Seniors, Shinigami Master Guyy, was perched on his favourite chair near the front of the library. This particular seat was old and comfortable, surrounded by stacks of books he was working on and a couple of small tables with paperwork and coffee cups strewn across them. Most importantly, this seat caught the sun perfectly, streaming in warmly through the vast stained glass windows. As he worked on the books he made notes on sheets of paper. The little blonde girl wandered by and paused to look at the mess. With a tutting noise she began to gather up the crumbled waste paper and used cups. "Daddy, why must you always make such a mess?!" She complained. The man looked up at her sheepishly. "Apologies Ilia. Daddy's been working very hard today." He sighed. "You should take a break. Mama will get mad at you if you fall asleep on your dinner again." She chastised him. It was sort of funny to see a grown man getting told off by a little girl. But she was right. He leaned back in his seat and rested his pencil on the pages of the book on his lap while she tidied. "She's taught you too well." He said with amusement. "Fine, fine. I'll rest for a little while." He promised. He could use a cigarette anyway and he could catch some sun if he went outside.
For anyone who needed his attention, whether it be to ask him a question, get a little help with a book, trade with him or even quietly approach him about the clan itself, now was a rather excellent time to do so.

The cool fall day was just a sign of how perfect it was going to be Today. Boots and heels clicked on the cobblestone streets as people made about their merry way, the colorful leaves of nearby trees decorating the streets like splatters of fiery colors from a painter's brush. It was truly Sulia's favorite time of the year as she smiled brightly to herself, taking in the town as it changes for the season.
She had come to Durem on a specific mission but she couldn't help but stop and enjoy herself. She brushed the hair out of her face and adjusted the hat on her as she prepared to cross the street, only to have a huge gust of wind sweep through the town. As people bundle down to wait for the wind to past, Sulia couldn't help but spread her arms a little and let the wind almost swirl around her before it went along it's way once more. Nature had always been her playmate growing up and the wind was always her favorite.
"Time to get a move on"
Sulia was a quiet observer in the beginning when she got to a new place. It didn't last long as things in towns always seemed to catch her interest like a small child with something shiney, but she had somewhere she had to go before she could lose herself.
After making sure nothing was coming she crossed the street to a building that had no real sign but everyone knew what it was. The Shinigami Library. This was where she was going to find the clues that she needed and hopefully an answer or two.
Sulia smiled brightly to herself before straightening herself, a small nervous habit she always had before the possibility of meeting new people. After taking a moment to gather herself she reached forward to grab the knob to go in, only to find it pulled away from her as it opens on it on, the suddenness making her take a step forward and almost run straight into the man exiting.
After a brief second of surprise she smiled up at the man warmly, giving a slight wave as she spoke, "Hi! Sorry about almost running into you! Do you know where I can find...", she stops for a moment to look down at a piece of paper she had scribbled notes down on, "...Guyy Myurr?"

Guyy put the book aside, adding it to the pile beside him. Ilia gave him a smug look and picked up the pieces of paper around his feet. He really had made a terrible mess simply by working. He reached down and ruffled her hair gently and fondly. The little girl looked up at him curiously. "You don't have to do that." He told her. She blinked and shook her head. "Sure I do daddy! I need to look after the library and you." She beamed. He reached down and gave her a hug, making her giggle cheerfully. "Go outside daddy! Your skin is cool." She laughed, practically pushing him towards the door.
He laughed and left her cleaning up his mess (wincing a little as he saw her look at his notes, shrug and then just shuffle them all together) and headed towards the heavy oak door. Soon it would be too cold for him to go outside for long, he knew. So for now he was making the best of the sun while he could get it. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a packet of cigarettes. With a lazy motion he tapped one out and placed it between his lips, patting his pockets absently to try and locate his lighter.
He reached out with one hand and opened the door as he searched for the elusive flame box. As he pulled it open someone nearly ran right into him. He tensed up, having let himself become distracted and startled. He looked down at the girls as she smiled and waved up at him. He merely raised an eyebrow. His scarlet eyes looked her over. Aside from the purple hair she looked normal. But his other senses sought deeper, tracking her blood as it flowed through her veins. Mostly, she was not too unlike anyone else. But it revealed to him the long ears hidden under her hat. Inhuman. Interesting. The snake smiled at the rabbit.
"I am he. Welcome to the Shinigami Library miss. What can I help you with?" He asked charmingly, wondering if she was here for a book or for the clan itself, as many inhumans were. As he spoke Ilia ran up to him and held her hands out. She was holding a scarf. He patted her hair and wrapped it around his neck against the chill, thanking her.

Sulia kept her smile in place as she felt his eyes look her over. He was looking at more than just her appearance, she knew that. She could only try not to get awkward under his gaze, hoping that her long hair wasn't the usual wind tossed mess and that her ears were hidden. The only other thing that she would think he would find odd would be the bottle of fire she had hanging around her neck, but she had that tucked in under her long black leather traveling coat.
Sulia cupped her hands together in front of her as she looked up at them, it being the best way to keep her hands still when she was nervous. She was about to answer his question when a small girl caught her attention as she came running up and handed the man a scarf. She was very small and flat out adorable in Sulia's opinion. She couldn't help but let her thoughts wander off to just squeezing her in a tight hug for being so cute, but she came back to her original thoughts and looked back up at the man.
Her dark purple eyes that had once had a small sparkle of innocents and happiness from meeting someone new went a little more serious as she was brought back to her point. She really needed to do something about getting so distracted sometimes, but that was a thought for another day. Maybe tomorrow she would go get a treat and- FOCUS!
"I guess you could say that I'm looking for answers, and I think maybe your library can help me find what I need and who I'm looking for...."

The bottle of fire was a source of interest to him as his heat sense was drawn to it. Curious indeed. Though whatever it was that he could sense was hidden from sight. He tilted his head a little as he looked down at the girl. She was a cheerful creature at least. If she'd come here for any malicious reason then he couldn't see it. He took his unlit cigarette from his lips and held it between his fingers. He was supposed to be taking a break (no doubt Ilia had come over to make sure he did as well as to deliver his scarf to him) but now his attention had been caught. He might have to go out afterwards.
"If you are looking for answers then you've come to the right place. There are very few questions and mysteries we cannot solve here, one way or another." He smiled, rooting in his pocket to find the packet. With a smooth motion of his long fingers the cigarette slid back into the pack. He stepped backwards a little way, holding onto the blonde child and taking her with her. His hand remained on the door handle. He held the door open and gestured with his head, inviting Sulia inside.
"We have the most unique library on Gaia, that is available to the public anyway. Our book selections range from the common to the exceptionally rare. We keep one-of-a-kind books here also, in the glass cases that line the walls. You can't touch those, but I have made copies for general use." He explained. It was almost a sales pitch, but he was very proud of his library. Even the little girl smiled widely. They looked slightly alike in the face, especially the nose and chin.
"Tell me, what answers are you looking for? I can perhaps guide you to the right section, or Ilia here can source out some helpful books from other areas." He asked her, not removing his scarf. He pushed his raven black hair back from his face as the slightly long locks fell over his eyes. He'd get Kaori to cut it soon. "Pleased to meet you, miss...?" he left the greeting open to allow her to fill in her own name.

He was certainly friendly, especially with her interrupting him from going to do something. She would apologize for that later and made a mental note as she took a step inside, her eyes going a little wide at just how massive the collection was. she had heard about how massive the collection was, but her imagination didn't come up with something like this.
As Sulia looked around, she carefully unzipped her traveling cloak and slid it off gracefully, revealing her rather unique attire that she made herself. She wore a simple black dress that had a strap around her neck and had wore light pink detachable sleeves that covered her hands whenever they rested at her side. She also sported a black and purple tights with a weapons holster on each of her thighs that contained something, so it was clear that she was not just your average book worm.
She gave a small inner sigh as her hand reached up and removed her small black hat from her head, knowing it rude to wear hats inside, but it always made keeping her ears down harder. She carefully draped her coat and hat over a chair as she listened to him speak of his library, pride clearly in his voice as he mentioned the more rare books people were not able to handle. Sulia then turned on her heel as she smiled at the man to finish his sentence, "Sulia Katsuragi....it's very nice to meet you Mr. Myurr and you have quite the collection. More than I could ever have imagined."
She looked around again as she thought quietly to herself, her hand traveling to the bottle around her neck and her fingers twirling it absentmindedly. "I have come into possession of a rather interesting item from a friend and I want to learn more about it....and hopefully more about my friend." She held the bottle out slightly from her neck to show the item of interest.

The praise Ilia received from the woman made Ilia giggle and beam sweetly. It would be hard to see the child as anything other than cute some days. But Guyy knew better. He loved her to pieces because she was becoming more and more natural in her manners and personality ever day. She was really learning from her friends and family. Even now the smile she had on her face reminded him of her mother at her happiest moments. There were even a few little traits she'd managed to pick up from the other Shinigami.
"You are wise to assume there's more to this charm than simple beauty. Magical fire like this tends to be a bit more complicated from what little I know. I could speak to Jack and see whether Astrossa knows anything about it, but I've never seen her wield anything of this colour. Nor has she demonstrated an ability to contain a flame in such a manner yet keep it burning. Quite fascinating really." Guyy nodded, studying the fire intently. It was an extraordinary little trinket. He listened to her story as they walked along behind Ilia. The little girl turned to look back at them now and then to make sure they were following, giving them a smile. Something caught his attention.
"Joseph?" He looked down at the young rabbit girl curiously. Could it be...? What would the odds on that be? Surely it wouldn't be the Joseph of the Shinigami Clan himself? He had been gone for a while. It would not be the first time a friend found the library. Did she know of the clan? "That was a kind gesture of him. He must have some magical skills then..." He mulled it over. Could be coincidence.
"This is a place where many paths lead. I would not be too surprised if you found exactly the answers you were looking for here." He smiled in kind to her as Ilia took a turn. He guided her between the shelves right behind her. It was noticeable that the books were becoming gradually less modern the more they walked. Before long there were more ancient tomes than newly bound books. Though, thanks to Guyy's efforts at preserving and copying important and rare texts, there were still brand new books slipped in net to their ancient counterparts.
"Over there!" Ilia called back to them, speeding up and pointing at a row of shelves. She deliberately left a little dust on the shelves back here. She'd come to learn that most magical browsers preferred the idea of being the first to discover something. Guyy showed his new companion to the shelves. "Well, let us see what we can learn, shall we? Why don't you tell me what you know of this Joseph and we can see if there's a specialist magic he might have been using." He coaxed.

Sulia nodded as she listened to the man speak, having a feeling that he was going to help her very much. She finally felt like maybe she was getting somewhere and not just run around like a chicken with its head cut off. She smiled as he mentioned Joseph's magical abilities, "Oh yes, there was certainly something special about him...I searched for a very long time to try to find him again, and did once, if only for a breif moment."
She became slightly sad at this memory as she thought back to it. She had had waited and hope to see him again for a year, before chance let them finally meet again, only to find that he didn't really remember her. There was something about him that was different that night though, one of the many questions she had running through her head. "He didn't really seem to remember me, but there was something different....and before I could really figure things out, a very powerful woman appeared and challenged him to a fight before he ran off to find out more about her clan..."
she gave a small sigh as she thought about it all. Most people would think that she was stupid for all the running around she has done, but she was grateful for it. She has learned a lot about herself and actually managed to spread her wings of sorts. And her travels were not pointless to her.
Sulia was brought out of her thoughts as the small voice of Ilia calling out caught her attention as her black and purple ears perked straight up out of her hair out of reflex. She didn't really seem to notice as she followed the girl's pace to the books and looked them all over as Guyy try to coax more about what she knew of Joseph.
"I really didn't understand much about his magic when I saw him use it. I don't really know much about that kind of thing, obviously. But it was like he was fighting with some kind of darkness. I managed to find his clan only to find his sister, and not he himself, but she couldn't really give me much information about where he was....only that this was the place to find everything out...." She smiled brightly when she spotted a rather large book on the highest shelf that caught her interest, trying to stand on her tip toes to reach it as her ears gave a little twitch of determination as she focused.

So, the Joseph she was after not only had a sister in another clan, but she had directed Sulia to this clan. there was no doubt about it. It just had to be the same Joseph. Very curious. She was certainly a unique person, no wonder she had been directed here. But to find she knew Joseph as well just made things all the more interesting.
"His sister directed you here? She was probably right that this was the place to find answers then." He nodded, noticing her look up at a high shelf. There was no way she'd reach that particular book easily on her own. "Here, let me." He offered. He really was quite tall but even he would have trouble reaching it comfortably.
As she looked his scarlet eyes clouded over black, losing all hint of his pupil and whites. it was as if his eyes had become two shining balls of onyx. Above them the book seemed to move on its own, sliding out from the shelf and dangling. But it did not fall. Instead it lowered down gently into his waiting hands. It was then that she'd see a collection of black threads supporting the book. Strands of shadow.
As he took the book they snapped and dissolved, fading away as he blinked the colour back into his eyes. He smiled at her and offered her the book. It was a heavy tome on elemental magic. It may be useful. "Here we go. Hopefully this is some use. If not we'll keep looking. Ilia, could you do me a favour?" He waved his daughter over and whispered into her ear. She beamed and nodded, dashing away between the shelves quickly and out of sight.
"Now. Let's see if we can work out the answer to your intriguing little mystery, shall we?" He showed her to a nearby desk and some seats. "The man you speak of reminds me of someone I know actually." he grinned.

Her feelings that he was different were certainly confirmed as she watched him retrieve the book from such a high shelf. She smiled brightly, curiosity sparking in her eyes as she moved close to him to take a look at exactly what he was doing. She spoke softly to herself the book lowering, "that's so neat..."
She herself could control the power of the window and plants around her, along with talking to them whenever she needed help. It was a gift from her mother that she had to go on and later learn to control. But whenever she met someone that clearly wasn't human, like herself, she always got very excited and felt a little less alone.
Once the book was down on their level, she realized how large it was, but with so many pages it had to have something in it that could tel her more about it all. There had to be something and if she had to go through every book, she didn't mind. Gathering information was one of her better talents.
Sulia watched Ilia scamper off and couldn't help but curious as to his request of her, but her attention was brought back as they reached a desk with the book, quickly opening it and going about skimming the contents for where she might want to start. Her attention was brought back to Guyy as the mention of knowing someone similar. "Really?!" She couldn't hide how excited she was. Everything seemed to be finally clicking in place, who wouldn't be?

He flashed her a smile as she complimented one of his skills. He gave her a nod of gratitude. "It's nothing really. Just shadows. It's not something I'll use in front of the regular patrons. I would have just gotten a ladder. But I figured you wouldn't mind, seeing as you're not human yourself." he stated matter-of-factly, making it clear he knew all too well.
Hopefully this particular book would provide some information to them at the very least. He glanced back to the shelves, reaching down a lower book on elemental charms and curses as well just in case. No doubt one of the books in the library would help somehow. Even better would be getting in touch with Joseph himself of course.
"Yes, as it happens the man you mention reminds me strongly of one of my own... staff." he smiled, gently explaining their connection without yet mentioning the clan itself. Few people knew the library hid the clan within it and it's not something he advertised. He'd see how she reacted to Ilia's errand before he brought it up.
As they flicked through the books she came jogging back, waving a sheet of paper. Guyy smiled and bend down as she grinned at him, taking the paper from her. She'd just been away to print out something from her files it seemed. "Thank you sweetie." he gave her a kiss on the forehead and she clung to his belt affectionately. Guyy place the paper down on the table in front of Sulia and pushed it into her vision. it was a photograph of Joseph. He didn't say a word, merely waited for her reaction. Either she'd know him, or not.

Sulia smiled at him, thinking it would be funny to see someone like Joseph going from fighting and bettering his skills to becoming a librarian. She gave a laugh at the mental image that came to mind before looking back down at the book and moving to a section about the colors of fire, her ears giving a small twitch as she heard Ilia's approaching footsteps.
She did her best to keep her nose into her book. Despite her natural curiosity, she was trying to not be so nose anymore, it was just hard at times for her. Only when a piece of paper was slid towards her vision did she take a moment to glance over before looking back at the book. It took a few moments before she straightened up and looked back at the photo with wide eyes. "Oh my god!"
She grabbed the paper and stared at it, a million more questions racing through her head as she tries to register everything. He was here! Or at least he had been here and she was getting closer. She quickly whipped around on her heel and looked up at him as she held up the paper. "This is him! It's Joseph! Is he here!?"
She knew that she was probably completely weirding this man out beyond all belief but she didn't care anymore. Joseph was a friend of hers that has only brought more and more questions about everything. As a person that hated having so much to wonder about, it has done nothing but drive her insane.
