Okay, I was editing the guild homepage one day and stumbled across this bit of info when I went to click "save":
Who Can Send Broadcasts: Captain Vice Captains Crew Members
It has a check box by each rank. What does all of that mean? I didn't want to mess with it because I didn't know what these "broadcasts" were and why it had all the ranks with check boxes by them.
Anyone know what this means?

Broadcasts are the mass announcements that can now be sent out to notify members of a Guild of things that are going on. Nikka recently sent one out for this Guild, though for the life of me I cannot remeber what the speech bubble says exactly. I think it's something along the lines of 'Guild Announcent'
Those checkboxes allow you to choose who may send those broadcasts. Most Guilds keep it to Captains/Crew, as you can only send one a day and it does take gold from the guild funds to do so. If the box is checked, then that means that they can send broadcasts, unchecked means that they can't. Totally personal preference as to who can do it. ^_^

actually the broadcasts are the Gaia instant messenger things. Mass announcements no matter what are only allowed for the vice-captain.

Actually, no. Kimiko is right. The broadcasts are basically a mass-message sent to all your members. The checkmarks let you choose who can send them. Most of the time it's limited to Captains/Vice-captains because it takes guild funds to send, and also, only one may be sent per day, per guild.

Also if you go to the captains guild 2.0 a mod even said the broadcast system is for gaia instant messenger. It has no relation to the guild announcement system.

I'm still a little bit confused. I know that with Guild Announcements that I can only send one a day and of course, yes, there is a fee.
Why would the members be able to send them? Is it when they click "recommend guild"? What's the difference between a "broadcast" and a "guild announcement"? What would happen if a member could send these "broadcasts"?

Dustin has it right on this one. The Broadcasts are in the Gaia instant messanger. If you open the messenger there should be a [NPC] GaiaGuildBot in there. If you send a message to that, than it will send a message to all of your guild members who are currently online and signed onto the messenger. It then becomes sort of a live guild chat room. If you have all your members turned on to access the feature than everyone can chat with each other. Meanwhile... the Guild Announcements are the ones that cost money and that get sent to all your members who have themselves turned on to receiving these announcements. Only Captains and Vice Captains can use this feature, as to stop members from spamming stupid s**t that takes the guild's money and time.

By default, I think all those boxes are checked, should I just check only the captain and vice captain? Would that be best?
