So i was discussing this with my dad and sister the other day. And they said that the degenerating entertainment industry is destroying society.

And they say that the good ol days were better, Like the leave it to beaver and Doris Day sorta times.

But sure the entertainment industry was clean and floofy..

But the KKK had millions of members then.. And what little out homosexuals there were, were in SERIOUS danger of being killed. There were rapists, serial killers, *****, genocides, wars, sexism, etc etc..

I really think the entertainment industry has NO effect on society.. There are plenty of other reasons why the families have become so detached.. (economy leading the way, our news and government keeping us in a state of constant fear and many more things)

So what do you Tribuners think of this debate?

Do you notice society degenerating? I notice certain areas that are bad. But i think those ares of society have ALWAYS been bad.. So its business as usual. But i see SO many great things too. I think people just focus way too much on the negative side of things they tend to overlook the good things.

So yeah do you think our entertainment industry (violent video games, smutty TV etc) is the leading cause of societies problems?

Honestly? yes! But the most thing that is killing us is the technology.

People instead of writting letter to the ones you love, we txt or e-mail them -_- instead of going to our friends house all the time, we chat over msn or call on the phone. Istead of having energy to go out and have fun and do excersice, we have enough energy to move our a** to the sofa and to turn on the TV. Seriouslly, I think it's wrong the way things are now a day. Things are moving to fast. Im 19yrs old, and Im starting to wonder how the world will be when my kids are my age. It's simply pathetic in so many ways!

I agree to a certain extent.

But every time i lose my faith in mankind, and think things are all going to go down the shitter. I see something that just bring it all right back.

There are still some wonderful things going on. And still some incredible people in this world. I even take a stroll downtown, i see people hold doors for each other. Smile and wave to everyone they pass. Charity benefits, I saw three people jamming on guitars right on the side walk with a small group of people dancing.

and a few weeks ago they closed the streets downtown midnight to 2 AM and had a capture the flag tournament.

There are still sites of incredible human behavior going on. People just need to look for it. n__n

If you are so weak-minded that the media is affecting how you live your life, then good riddance.

Same goes for technology.

These things are not to blame. If people are weak-minded, then it's their fault. Now we have technology and the media to blame for our short-comings or mistakes. In the past, they'd say, "The witch put a spell on me!" There have always been scapegoats that are not related whatsoever to the problem. The problem is and has always been weak-minded people.
