I can't believe there isn't already a green day thread. But I may know why.

First off I'd like to say that those of you who say green day sucks because they're overplayed or cliche or they "sold out" or for whatever retarded reason are super-conforming bastards. You also have not obviously listened to any of the lyrics. Of corse not everyone is going to like a band but I have respect for someone who says so because that's what they think not because of what everyone else thinks.

That said I want to point out that these guys are among the greatest musicians in recent history. Now don't jump down my throat all you classic rock geeks like me, I know what I'm talking about. Billie is an excellent song writer topped by none since perhaps Jackson Browne, mike's no amateur on the bass and Tre is a better drummer than pretty much evry drummer I've heard of from 1990 on.

So enough rambling what do you think. I need some feedback and opinions...please?

I forgot to say, I think Green Day are cool. I saw them live in January and they put on an amazing show (and what more could you want?) It's a pretty amazing acheivement for a punk rock band to be as successful as they are and you have to respect that if nothing else. And y'know what, I think they deserve their success. American Idiot is their best album so far and that's why they've become popular, not because they sold out

I remember their more rockabilly songs like "Warning" and "Good Riddance (Time of your life)" and I did like them. Their AI album actually isn't too bad although in my opinion it doesn't sound Punk Rock. But yeah, most people who come to the conclusion of them selling out don't really have any grounds or justification. Tons of bands change, be it underground or mainstream. Guess they never heard of Progressive Rock.

I know what you mean about it not really being a punk rock album 3nodding But it's just like you say, bands change. Doesnt make them sellouts does it? Imagine how boring it'd be if bands kept churning out the same old stuff with every album rolleyes

I went to a concert about three months ago in maryland, and it kicked a**. Best concert I've been too, musically. That's not counting dropkick murphys but that's only because I sent some guy to the hospitol for trying to pick up my girlfriend.

I think AI is an extremely great album. But I like their older stuff better. (insomniac, Warning, nimrod). What I'm tired of is people who say they sold out or they suck but only started listening after AI came out. I'm not saying they're not entitled to your opinion but jesus christ, people. Also it makes me mad to see people who think dookie was their first album, but whatever.

And i agree, 100% that they deserve their success. I mean they were set for life after they released their second album. With a genius song writer and a great, but not complicated sound how how could hey not be successful?

I only have Dookie (the original "popular" album) but do quite like them...fave song is "Time of Your Life (Good riddance)"

I actually think they are getting better with age...before dookie they were more of a west coast punk scene type band, but now I think they fall more into the alternative category mrgreen

I get my tickets (not Green Day tickets) from Rocking Horse (a record store). Many specialist record stores (ones dedicated to a certain genre) sell concert tickets as well. I'm sure there's some other way but that's how I get access to gigs.

I buy my concert tickets online at www.gigsandtours.com but they only sell tickets for gigs in the UK.. I believe www.ticketmaster.com has tickets for USA though
