I'm so stressed over a cover up i want to do...What I want covered is on my leg. It's large and BLACK. I dont know how they're going to bloody do it and make it look okay.

I may be forced to get it removed...but isnt that more expensive?

Has anyone here been forced to do a cover up?
Can you show us how good or bad it looks? xD

Before you fret too much over this, go into a studio and sit down with an artist (preferably one that has done cover-ups before) and show him what you want covered, and ask him what he thinks he can do for it. I've seen some simple tattoos unable to be covered, and some that were intricate that were covered in no time.

Do you have a picture of the tattoo you're covering?

My sleeve is a cover up. There's an old arm-band tattoo under the horizon line. Links to pics on my profile.

You can always just talk to the artist. You never know what they might be able to come up with, some are really good at cover ups. ^_^

Laser removal is going to be a LOT more money, time, and may not even work out. It can sometimes leave a scar in the shape of the tattoo behind, and it sometimes can't get rid of all of the ink, so you have outlines or spots left behind.

The biggest problem with laser removal is you get what you pay for. Even in the upper rings of laser removal procedures, the body's tendency for scarification due to the removal process is still there. No doctor can stop your body 100% from scaring. If you have the time, money, and trust, you can try, but it is never completely effective.

Since it is a basic design, no intricate lines and such, a cover-up shouldn't be too hard on that tattoo. The only area that might prove to be somewhat of a difficulty to the tattoo artist is the lettering, but in the style that they are in, it shouldn't be anything that a good artist can't handle.

Go into a few shops, talk to the artists, and see what they have to offer. See if any of the artists have portfolio pictures of before and after cover-up projects to get an idea of how well they can hide previous works on people. Don't be afraid to ask the artists how long they think it will take, how well they think they can do it, etc. A good artist will tell you everything truthfully, and have the experience and evidence to show you that they can do what they are stating.
