Hello everyone I know and possibly don't know. I've been trying to astral project lately, but my first problem is meditating. My old method of meditating hasn't been working, and I don't know what to do. Before, I would clear my mind entirely. That doesn't work anymore. If I send myself to a peaceful place, like a meadow with a stream running through it, what should I focus on most? Colors? Scents? Sounds? And what setting should the room be in besides quiet? Would it have to be silent? And what about lighting? Oh jeez that's more than I thought it'd be. And that's only the meditation. As for astral projection, what are some methods to get into an astral plane? Apparently, according to someone else, I've done it before, but I don't remember how I did it. So could I get some tips on this, too, please? Thank you so much in advance~ I hope to hear from you soon. Tsukiko Shagekiya -Tsu-

It sounds like you might be over thinking the process which adds more stress and pressure. Don't worry about the details and go with the flow.
If you are having problems with just relaxing, routine helps. It can be anything from the way you set up your sanctuary to the way you position yourself when sitting down (or the way you position your fingers when meditating). But you can meditate anyplace you are comfortable. (heck I've seen people meditate on a busy bus) Then just take a couple of deep breaths and let your thoughts go with the flow.
You don't really have to worry about a destination. Written meditations in books or in the resource subforum of the guild are suggestions only. Not concrete. Basically let yourself go to where ever your thoughts take you. And don't worry about the details until you get there. Your mind will fill in the blanks upon arrival. And just like dreams they don't have to make any sense.
Even guided meditations via tapes or groups don't have to be followed as directed. I've been to my uncles meditations where he has guided the group to crystal cities in the clouds, while I've been exploring coral caves on the bottom of the ocean.
As to astral projection, all it takes is being in a relaxed enough state. Most people astral travel while they sleep, but can occure while meditating. Basically, one moment you are centering yourself asking for divine presence (or universal energies) to fill and surround you and the next you feel very light and the setting around you changes to a silky whiteness and friendly beings greet you. (at least that is what happens for me. Experiences may vary)
Hope that offers a bit of insight, but if you need more info don't hesitate to ask

If I might offer an opinion.....I think you're trying too hard, Tsukiko. These things are just like slipping aside of the present, just a subtle turn away from the normal plane of existence.
I developed a trigger that started me on the path away which, through use, has become well-worn and easy. I guess routine and practice help.

I have to agree with everyone else. Its can be a tricky thing to direct yourself to the astral plane and remain completely free. I like to think of it as a step sideways. As for meditation, whatever helps you focus while you remain in a calm state of mind. I like to listen to rain/the ocean/Owl City. It changes every day. Whatever works for you.
