Starlite had woken earlier then her traveling companion and rather then wake him for the days adventure had decided to let him sleep a bit longer and wandered off on her own for a little bit of solo exploring. She didn't have many worries about Swiftwind not finding her - she didn't intend to go far and in anycase the stallions did seem to have some decent detective skills...or at least he always managed to find her again when she wandered off, it had become almost a game really - she tried to trick him by confusing her trail and he tried to unravel whatever path she laid down.

This morning however she did't get very far into the game, stumbling upon a rather steep ravine that cut through the forest - it was a curious landmark and while Starlite could easily fly over it, she stopped to explore it's depths a little while, winging down to a smaller ledge about halfway down.

Belakane found herself soaring over the trees of Yisi for another morning. She had actually been in the area for quite some time but could never seem to get enough of the pleasant views that all the trees and small meadows had to offer. Her tendril like wings carried her easily along her way. The suns rays warmed her as she went. There was nothing better than a nice warm morning to take to the skies.

The day was looking like all the others in the recent week, and that meant it would be quite dull activity wise. She really needed to find something to occupy her time. Her thoughts were slightly interrupted when she spotted a splash of white and rainbow in the ravine below. She glided gracefully down to get a closer look. Soon it became clear as to what she had spotted. A quite colorful Jala mare was standing on a ledge midway down the ravine. Now what is she doing down there, Belakane thought to herself. Curiosity got the best of her and she continued to glide down until she was closer to the mare. "What are you doing down there?" She called out to the mare once close enough.

Starlite hadn't seen many Nequus in the area during her travels with Swiftwind and so was somewhat startled by the arrival of the purple Ichsa, thankfully for Starlite who was standing on a ledge she wasn't one to spook sideways when startled and merely jerked her head about to view the source of the unexpected question. The Ichsa's coloring rivaled hers for brightness...even if she lacked the entire spectrum on color she certainly made up for it with some rather unique markings.

She seemed friendly enough however and Starlite after shuffling her wings a few times to hide the fact that she had been startled answered her "Nothing really...was just exploring a bit" she confessed wondering if the mare expected some other more complicated answer. "it's an interesting feature in these parts.." she tacked on tot he end of her statement as though that addition would validate her curiosity a bit more.

Flapping her wings softly to maintain her hovering Belakane took in the other Nequus slowly. Well she was interestingly colored at least, so many Nequus these days were sporting such dull hides. That was partially caused by all the annoying half-bloods running around. They were nothing but a waste of grass. But this one was of pure blood so she didn't disgust Belakane. Still why would one find a ravine interesting.

"It is a good way to get yourself killed." She said rather coldly. Not that she hated the mare, or at least she was yet to find a reason to hate her. But her voice always sounded cold and unwelcome. It was just the way she was.

Starlite arched a brow slightly at the other's comment and flicked her tail, perhaps she'd take back that 'friendly enough' judgement she thought to herself with a bit of surprise at the others tone of voice, well just goes to show you you can't judge a book by its cover she told herself..the mares pretty looks certainly didn't seem to penetrate into her soul by any means.

"Really?" She asked feigning sudden fear with wide eyes and a fearful glance about her surroundings, for some reason Starlite felt like playing the part of 'stupid' if for no other reason then to see how the cold hearted mare reacted, it might if nothing else provide a bit of amusement in what would otherwise be a fairly dull day.

Snorting lightly Belakane wondered why she even bothered to point out the obvious to the mare. "Would you let a foal play in a ravine? Of course not. Just because you are an adult doesn't make it any less dangerous." Her cold voice continued. "One slip off the ledge into that thick underbrush below and you would not be able to fly out."

"Unless that's what you want to happen." She added after a moment. It wouldn't be the first time a Nequus deliberately got themselves killed so as to end their wretched existence. But that was mostly a half-blood thing. Surely this pure blood didn't have that bad of a life.

Starlite sidled sideways a few steps and glanced down into the ravine and the thick brush that clogged its bottom - it would pose a bit of a problem should she fall into it - she had to agree with the purple mare on that point. Of course Starlite liked to think herself a bit more experienced and wise then your average foal and typically would have argued that with the mare...but in order to keep her 'stupid mare' facade running she couldn't really do that now could she.

"Well you do have a point" she conceeded after glanced back to the purple mare "but Idon't believe I should fall and the ledge seems sturdy enough" she continued and just to further torment the hovering mare Starlite gave a few hops in place as though testing the ledges ability to hold her weight before giving the mare a surprised look at her second comment "most certainly not! and if I did I can think of far better ways then leaping from a cliff" she continued, momentarily startled from her stupid mare mask by the absurdity of the mares accusation.

Belakane shook her head. It was a real shame such an interestingly colored pure blood was quite stupid. Just goes to show that sometimes even pure bloods have weak genes. She nearly had a heart attack when the mare began to jump on the ledge. Sure it looked sturdy but one could never be too certain about these things.

Shaking her mane to move a strand that had gotten into her eye she watched the mare. Indeed there were many other ways to end ones life, she supposed. Though she not believed that perhaps the mare wasn't trying to kill herself but was just stupid enough to chance walking into a ravine. "Well are you going to spend the rest of your day down here or are you willing to depart from your little adventure and come up to the top?"

Starlite found the mares reaction to her jumping quite amusing and purposefully knocked a rock off the edge as though one of her hooves had gotten just a little to close to the edge for a second just to see how the mare would react to that before shaking her head slightly and glancing back up to the top of the ravine.

"Eh I suppose I've seen all there is to see down here" She finally responded, her curiosity had been sated for the moment an she didn't think any further exploration would be enjoyable with this mare hovering over her shoulders..and she didn't look like she was about to leave anytime soon either. Spreading her wings out she kicked up into the air and spiraled her way to the top where she landed with a few forward bounds to loose speed before turning back to see if the purple mare was still following her. "More comfortable now?" She called out to her hen she saw that she was indeed still around.

Belakane had to stop herself from yelling at the stupid mare when she saw a rock fall from the edge. To her relief the mare seemed to have a moment of smarts and too flight from the ledge. She followed her up to the top and landed gracefully not far from her. She carefully tucked in her tendril wings before looking at the mare. "Yes, this is much better."

She fell silent for a moment pondering what to say next. How did one hold a conversation with such a silly mare. "I am Belakane." She stated in her cold voice. "And who might you be?"

Starlite thought about pointing out that they were still fairly close to an edge and she didn't see all that much difference between standing on top of the ravine or on the ledge halfway down - but refrained for the time being if for no other reason then to keep an argument from starting. She doubted the purple mare would see her point anyways - and would probably have a million and one reasons why the top was better.

"Starlite" she responded to the mare - Belakane was an interesting name, Starlite thought she might have heard of it somewhere before - but couldn't quite place it. "Does Belakane have any sort of meaning?" she asked mostly out of curiosity.

Belakane bobbed her head slightly, Starlite seemed to be an appropriate name for the mare. The star marking on her forehead almost demanded a name like Starlite.

"Belakane means queen." He told Starlite. "It was the name my Damn picked in hopes that I would one day lead out herd like a queen." She had indeed been wanting to rule over others but as yet had not taken a leadership position in the herd.

Ah well thats certainly explained a few things about the mares attitude, as far as Starlites experiences went being raised with such expectations often lead to a rather haughty nature. Starlite was glad her parents had never placed such a burden on her back - though Belakane didn't seem to be bothered much by it, in fact by the way she'd said it Starlite was fairly certain the purple mare relished the thought of ruling others.

"Is it a large herd?" she asked politely - though she honestly didn't much care one way or another. "I expect having a mother in such a high position places a good deal of responsibility on your shoulders" she continued, somewhat curious as to how much of a role Belakane played in the herd.
PostPosted: Wed Dec 02, 2009 9:36 am

"Yes the herd is quite large." She told the mare. "Responsibility makes on who they are. Without it we are nothing but the drones that make up the lowest of herd members. The herd looks to us for advice and we do not take that role lightly."

She did revel in the leadership role. It suited her well. Though it did have some drawbacks but that was of no concern to this mare. Her eyes caught movement off to the side. Turning her head she saw a large Ischa walking towards them and immediately knew who it was.

The green and blue tinged male stopped and bowed his head to Belakane before speaking. "My apologies Belakane but your mother wished for me to bring you back to the herd. You have to attend to your duties."

"Thank you Cordun." She said it that all too cold voice before looking back at Starlite. "Duty calls, so I must run." She turned and began to follow the stallion as he lead the way back to her home. Though she did take a moment to glance back at Starlite. "Don't go jumping off of cliffs now that I'm gone." She called back to the mare then disappeared into the trees.

Starlite Shook her head slightly as the purple mare disappeared after being summoned by the green stallion - herd life was so curious sometimes and Starlite couldn't really wrap her mind around living your life at the beck and call of other's, of being ruled by the morals of those deemed greater then you simply because of the family they were born into.

thankfully she didn't have to deal with these things - and as far as she knew neither did Swiftwind, though if he did he didn't seem to be too concerned with following through with any of said responsibilities which was just fine with her. Thinking of Swiftwind, Starlite wondered if the steed had woken yet and turned to head back to the place she had left him intent on sharing her morning adventure.
