Swiftwind had not previous been to Ryuten and after a day of thinking on it had decided to check it out. It was a different land that any other he had been in before, but interesting none the less. The shrines and temples that dot this area intrigued him. In no other place in Urin had he seen such interesting structure. He almost wanted to meet the creatures that created them, but had no idea what those creatures looked like. Surely they were an intelligent race to create such magnificent things. After spending several hours taking in the landscape from the air he landed in a meadow. The trees here were different too. He folded his wings against his body and went along on hoof for a while. Looking at everything of interest, smelling this or that. But his senses remained alert. One could never know what dangers could lie in a previously untraveled area.

The blanket appaloosa tossed her head and pranced about in a circle gleefully, quite proud of herself for finding this delicious... whatever it was. The word reeds flitted through her head, so maybe that's what these were, but she wasn't sure. Whatever they were, they were delicious! Delicious and sweet and mmmm! And there were only a few, but since she had found them, that meant they were hers! Hers and no one else's!
She paused to lower her head and take another rather large bite, standing to chew slowly and savor it when the sound of hoofbeats nearby made her nearly choke. She swallowed painfully and jerked her head up, ears swiveling in every direction to find the source of the sound. Just when she thought the Nowhere voices were leaving her alone, now they were going to sneak up on her! Or worse...
They wanted her yummy things!
With a snort, she flicked her ears back and dropped her muzzle to the ground, proceeding to eat the rest of her delicious treasure as fast as she could before whatever it was came to take them from her. Once finished, she lifted her head contentedly, though her ears continued their focused surveillance of her surroundings. Ophelia swallowed and turned, noticing a mostly white Nequus not too far off, with different colored wings, and a... A tiny horn that looked like it was better suited to be on some Ichsa foal's head instead of the Jala that wore it. Oh well.
Flicking her ears back, the crossbreed slowly snaked her way around to the brown-eyed stallion, eying him cautiously. She didn't mind the company of others, but she could never be too careful when meeting new people. "Who're you, and what are you doing here?"

Swiftwind's head snapped at upon hearing the voice. His eyes caught sight of the other Nequus and he took a moment to study her before answering. "I am Swiftwind. And you are?" He said to the mare.
He watched her as she took a moment to inspect him. She had an interesting pattern on her, and seemed sort of friendly. But Swiftwind knew that looks could be deceiving and one could never be too cautious when encountering a stranger. Especially when they acted much like this one did.

"That's a funny name," the short-haired mare replied instinctively as she blinked, looking him over with her reddish eyes. "It fits you perfectly." Well, she had to admit, he did look funny. Did he know he had a tiny horn on the top of his head? Was it real?
Well, he was here, and he was alone, and he was someone to talk to! Plus, all of her yummy things were gone, so she didn't have to worry about him stealing all of them and running off. At least the hoofbeats hadn't turned out to be the Nowhere voices, they were always trying to scare her!
Offering the strange stallion a grin, she flicked her stub of a tail and tossed her head a bit to get rid of the strange buzzing. Drek, the Nowhere voices would come back soon! And just when she'd gotten rid of them, too! They always came when her head started buzzing and hurting, but oh well. "My name's Ophelia, I live around here. Do you? Where do you live? Why d'you have that horn on your head? You do know that you have a horn there, don't you? It's cute," she added suddenly, tilting her head to the side. Yes, it was; all gold and pretty and tiny. Hee, it was tiny.

Swiftwind cocked an eyebrow at the mare as she continued to look him over. She acted as if she had never seen another Nequus before. How odd. "It is nice to meet you Ophelia." He replied in a calm voice. Taking a moment to register all her question that were suddenly thrown his way.
"No I don't like around here. I am from D'ob." He began his answers. "And yes I am aware that I have a horn. Most of my family does." Swiftwind wasn't sure how to respond to her telling him that his horn was cute. He never really thought of it in any way really, so he just ignored the comment.

"Oh." He was one of those Nequus, the ones that didn't know how horrible and frightening the valley was. Didn't they understand? It was so... so.... open. There wasn't anywhere to hide! No where at all, not anything like her home here in Ryuten. She couldn't imagine living somewhere that had no places to hide.
She blinked, taking a moment to register that he had, in fact, said more than just where he lived. "Oh, it's nice to meet you too, Swiftwind." A shake of her head was required before she finished with his name; she'd nearly forgotten it, but she remembered quickly. It was funny, like his horn. Hee, it was still tiny.
"So it's real?" She inquired, leaning forward and lifting her head higher in an attempt to see it better. Did he say that all of his family had horns? How strange! Were they all that tiny? Hee hee, a whole family with teeny tiny horns. She couldn't help but wonder if they stole them off the heads of poor, defenseless Ichsa foals. But how would they stay? Maybe they attached them to the funny things on their faces, like what this one had. But... how did that stay on? This stallion was as intriguing as he was funny looking!

This one was certainly a bit off, Swiftwind thought as the mare seemed almost preoccupied by something else. He wondered why she reacted in such a strange way to him saying where he was from. He shrugged it off as nothing more than lack of knowledge of the area.
"Yes, it is real." He told her as he bend his head down lower to allow her to see it better. Well at least he felt like he could trust her, although he was still a bit weary of her odd behavior. Although Swiftwind chalked that up to nothing more than not having met many Nequus before.

"Oh, okay." So it was real, but did that mean it was his, or did he just steal it from some poor, unsuspecting young Ichsa? That was entirely possible too, and if that was the case then he was not someone she should be talking to.
Speaking of which, he wasn't very talkative, was he? Well, there always were a few dull people in the world, she supposed. They couldn't help it, but meeting them was thoroughly unenjoyable for everyone else. Oh well, it couldn't be helped. At least she wasn't boring like they were. Nope, she was--
And there were the Nowhere voices again; she wondered when they'd pop up, it had been quite a while since the last time she'd heard them. This time they seemed to be off to her side, but when she tried to sneak a look -- and her definition of 'sneak a look' was really to quickly turn her head in that direction and glare off into the woods -- she didn't see anything! She hadn't seen them yet, thus their name, but she would see them eventually. She couldn't help but wonder how many there were, or what they looked like. One of them even sounded a bit like her, but it was so stra--
Her eyes suddenly glazed over as her body tensed, ears frozen in an alert stance, as her reddish eyes stared at the nothingness of a black void for a few moments.
It was quite a few moments before the mare blinked again, and quickly glanced around her as she jumped a bit, startled. Her accusing eyes turned to Swiftwind, and she glared at him suddenly. "Who are you and what are you doing here?" She demanded, pinning her ears back against her skull. Who was this stranger, what did he want, what was he doing here, and most importantly... How the hell did he get there so fast? And even more importantly.. how the hell did she get here so fast? Last thing she knew, she'd fallen asleep under a copse of trees near the human's strange huts, and now she woke up in the middle of no where -- she must've been sleepwalking again or something -- near some strange Jala, with.. an Ichsa horn? A tiny one, at that. Pah, he probably couldn't even do anything with it because it was so tiny. Pathetic.

Swiftwind raised his head after allowed the mare to inspect his horn. He was about to say something when she suddenly turned her as if she had heard something off in the distance. His eyes followed her gaze but he could see nothing there, with a shrug he looked back at the mare.
It was then he realized that her eyes had changed, and she seemed for the moment to be almost frozen in fear. Then as quickly as it had come it passed and she glared at him, demanding to know who he was. Didn't I just answer this question, he thought. This situation was getting odder by the second.
"I am Swiftwind." He said somewhat hesitantly. "I am just traveling through." Pausing for a moment almost not sure he wanted to ask the question. "And who are you?"

Ha! Traveling through, was he? Lies! That's what they all said, but they were all just a pack of rotten, lying drekhallahs, the whole lot of them. Bah, and what a stupid name, too. What sort of Nequus named their son Swiftwind? They were probably daft. "I don't see why I should tell you my name," she spat, glaring at him with her ears pinned against her head. What poor Ichsa foal had he stolen that horn from? What sort of Nequus paraded around with something like that on their head? He must be as daft as the Jala who spawned him, if not moreso. Or maybe he was abandoned and gave himself that name, and if so... that raised even more questions. What sort of Nequus would name himself that? Yes, he must be daft.
"Fine," she said finally, after her internal bit of ranting and taunting, "if you really must know.. My name is Avila." Now, see, that was a wonderful name, and she'd picked it herself! Not something terrible and prissy-sounding like Swiftwind. Daft.
I think it's cute!
A tendriled wing shot out to her left as she stumbled to the side, glaring at where the Nowhere voice had been, but nothing was there. She thought she saw a dash of color run behind a tree far away, but that was it. Drek, they were so fast!
