Can you write your own prayers?

Can prayer be the primary way one worships deity?

To the one that I serve
Pagany weekly December 3rd 2009

Does the use of prayer play a part in your path?
Yes. Prayer is a central aspect of my rituals and worship. I pray twice a day. I have three prayers I say in the morning and 2 prayers in the evening, soon to be 3.

Can you write your own prayers?
Yes. I write my own prayers. I will use prayers written by other people as well, but I mostly use my own prayers. There is a prayer I say on the full moon that is Tradition specific.

Can prayer be the primary way one worships deity?
Yes. Most of my rituals involve prayers as the central theme. There may be a working of some sort, but there is always a prayer.

Can prayers work like spells?
Yes. You can use a prayer like you would a spell.

Can one share prayers with others like spells or should they be private?
That depends on the prayers. One of the prayers I use is tradition specific.

Does the use of prayer play a part in your path?
Yes. I pray daily to my patron deities. I sometime incorporate prayer into my magical practice as well.

Can you write your own prayers?

Yes. My patron deities very much encourage creative acts, so they have no issue with me writing my own prayers.

Can prayer be the primary way one worships deity?

I suppose, though I prefer to use prayer in conjunction with other forms of worship; such as otherworld journey’s to commune with them or volunteer work for their causes. That is a personal preference and the preference of my particular patron deities.

Can prayers work like spells?
Yes.

Can one share prayers with others like spells or should they be private?
I believe prayers should remain private. Spells work on individual psychology and work best when tailored to the caster, however if you grew up in a similar society and culture to the original author of the spell it is likely the spell will work fine for you as you will likely share some of the same psychological associations with that writer. A prayer is far more personal involving your mind and your soul. It is a communication between you and your God/Goddess and therefore is very specific to you in ways beyond symbolism and need; it is tied to your spirit and the divine energy that you as an individual carry.

Does the use of prayer play a part in your path?
Umm I would say it does. I'm not a very confident person and conversing with my God as and when I need to offers me reassurance that I can't really get from some of the people in my life. Not to mention checking in with my God and having a bit of time with Him.

Can you write your own prayers?
I can and often do. Sometimes I don't even write them. I just speak smile

Can prayer be the primary way one worships deity?
I think prayer can be one of the ways someone worships deity but I wouldn't use it as a primary one. I would include offerings (very important when interacting with my God) and energy work too.

Can prayers work like spells?
I wouldn't say so. Mainly because I see spells as focused wishes. A prayer is conversing with deity whereas a wish is asking for something.

Can one share prayers with others like spells or should they be private?
Hehe my spells are private too. The ones I write myself are anyway. I intend for my books to be passed to my children as documentation of my path that maybe they'll follow. I guess in a Traditional Witchcraft type of way.
