Hi guys I'm the mom with the son on a sub.
He got back and said his first cruise was good. We were worried because as you know training is way different from the fleet.
Any way what I'm mad about is that while he was gone his truck was broken into and everything was stolen out of it, and of course nothing but the bed cover was covered by insurance. So he's out about $1000 worth of stuff.
Get this, he was told he could park it in the "deployed parking" and that the lot was lit, with cameras, and had patrols at least every four hours.
Seven other cars were broken into also. The thieves cut a hole in the back fence large enough to DRIVE A TRUCK THROUGH. Apparently the "patrols" didn't notice it.
Turns out the lot is not lit, doesn't have any cameras, and if the MA's really did patrol, they did it on a strict schedule so that who ever ripped them off only had to wait for the patrol to go by knowing that it would be four hours until the next one.
Only the bed cover was damagaged on his truck - they cut a huge rectangle in it, across, down, across. Oh and they cut his battery cable, probably to silence the alarm and to not get electrocuted when they took his stereo out - he had an amp hidden under the jump seat in the back - you could not see it at all, only if you lifted the seat could you see it. They took the time to unscrew everything instead of just cutting cables.
So they knew they had all the time in the world to execute this operation - I wonder if maybe the MA's weren't involved.
Pisses me off, our sailors should be able to safely stow their gear - including cars/trucks - while they are on a cruise.
Heads should roll!!!!! mad scream

Wow.... That's really embarrassing that would happen. I cannot believe that... Well, sadly I can. I mean, at least with the marines here, they're honest about not having security with us living in the barracks, and to get renter's insurance and such. But, for them to blatantly lie to you and your son for some false sense of security, and just to get completely taken advantage for their lack of duty is simply a great discredit to the Navy. I assume you have already taken the necessary routes already, by your last comment at least... I'm terribly sorry to hear about your son's misfortune however, and hope y'all receive compensation for their lack in duty.
