Setting: About 4 or so years after the original Camp Half-blood plot line at West point military academy and the towns nearby. However the first part of this post is set about a year after the events of this RP.
"Allright boys! I want this done clean and by the book! Intel says the enemy stronghold is heavily fortified on the northen and western flanks and all other directions are guarded by the Minofski Mountains! So naturally we're going to break through the mountains using these heavy plasma drills," The much older and gruffer looking Cournel Dain Douglas MacArthur said as he patted the large machine next to him on the plane. The plane's engines were humming quietly and were almost drowned out by the sound of AA fire outside. The whole thing would shack every once and a while from a near miss but that didn't phase the commanding officer one bit.
He wore a gray urban camo specail ops uniform, made of polarized carbin fiber with Iron carbate liquid inside of it so that it was soft and manuvarable normally, but when the system detected an incoming projectile it would harden up tougher than steel plating with electrical current running through it. Of course the more vital areas still had kevlar plating over them but that was sparse and most of the soilders just them them for something to attach their rifles and knives too.
After giving a small motivational speech Dain took his seat and pulled out a photo, it was a side picture of a beautiful blonde woman caught off guard the moring after. The officer looked at the picture solomly untill someone jabbed him in the ribs, "Don't worry sir, I'm sure shes fine."
"Its not her I'm worried about," Dain said before stuffing the picture back into his armor. ((the armor kinda looks like the Halo ODST Armor but without the helmets))
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A younger Dain MacArthur sad on the bus that would bring him to the place that would be his home for the next four years. The events of his younger life behind him Dain had decided to follow through with his life plan and had enlisted, choosing to make the military his career and go to West Point Officers Acadamy for schooling.
He was wearing a typical Cadet's uniform and was clean shaven, as the Army demanded. He had no bars yet, which marked him as a freshmen to the school so he expected some hazeing from the senior cadets. Currently the bus was humming with the talk of other excited cadets but what really intrested Dain was the fact that there was a monster driving the bus. It was a Gorgan, one of the most deadly creatures to ever walk the planet, and why it was driving a militray school bus Dain had no idea. However she wore a cloth over here face so as to not turn her passengers and those that she drove by into stone.
At least Dain was moving somewhere with his dream. He was on his way up, while the heroine of this story was at the bottom of the barrel. She was currently standing behind the counter of a starbucks, a green apron around her waist. Adara couldn't even remember when she had last curled her hair. It now hung in a loose ponytail, strands of blonde hair framing her face. She didn't even have her usual amount of make up on, just some eyeliner. It was a sad sight for the daughter of Aphrodite. She was once the most beautiful girl around, never venturing outside with perfect hair and nails. She winced at that thought, she didn't even want to think about her nails, colorless, chipped edges. She looked horrible.
Of course, this was all by her own standards. She still looked good enough to pass as one of the prettiest mortal girls in the town, but that wasn't good enough for Adara. Even if it would have to do for now. She planned to make it back to the top one day. She was only serving up coffee to people until she had the money to move into the city and make her big break. If she only had the cash, she could land a job in the first day. Adara turned and sprayed whipped cream onto a thick brown drink, popping on a lid and stuffing a green straw into the plastic cup, "Double Chocolate Frapp." she called out, setting it on the counter. Some fifteen year old girl walked up grabbed the drink and walked away without a word. Adara glared at her, the teenagers here were so rude, at least this one had paid earlier. Some of them just waited for someone to order something then took it and walked off.
Adara sighed, leaning against the counter and looked out the window to the bus stop across the street. That was the door to her freedom. Someday, she'd be standing there with her bags packed...
The gray bus with the words, "US Army- West Point" decalled on the sides pulled to a stop in what looked to be a satilite town formed from the buisness brought in from the cadets' off time. Dain stopped stareing daggers at the monster driver long enough to look around and see what was going on. Why had they stopped? the school was still a few miles down the road and across the bridge.
"All right cadets!" an older man with graying hair and a mustache said, he had the the star of a General on his right shoulder and everyone quickly figured out this was defienatly their commanding officer and probably their head master, "Now normally we'd take ya'll in right to the school, however Srgt. Avery here is running low on gas for ol' Bessy here. So we're gana make you run the rest of the way while she fills up here in town. So grab your s**t and fill out in rank."
Dain had a distenct feeling this was actually the normality for this situation and that the General just wanted to look like the good guy, leave it to the drill sergant to be the bad guy. Still the young man grabbed the bag that held all of his belongings, which just boiled down to the money in his wallet, a set of mortal civilian cloths and his celestial bronze dagger that was disguesed as a can of body spray.
Pilling out of the bus Dain stood at attention as the general inspected their ranks, the bus driving off to who knows where. He payed no heed to the starbucks across the street or any of the other fanchise stores on the strip mall. His entire focus was on the commanding officers words, "All right magits, about face and sprint!"
After that it all became pounding feet and bouncing bags.
The blonde watched from behind the counter as the gray bus pulled up on the side of the road she smirked as she watched boys signed up for the Military Academy step onto the side of the road. The soldiers in this town were always so much fun. If she ever needed a date she just had to ask. They were all so eager to have a night on the town with a girl, whenever they had the chance. Especially with one as beautiful as Adara. A middle aged man walked up to her, ordering a simple black coffee and so she had to turn away from the window for a second, pouring the dark beverage into the paper cup. She slipped a carboard cover onto it and then fastened a top to it. She was just handing it to the man when she glimpsed a blonde head out the window and the cup slipped from her hands.
It hit the tabel and the man leaped backwards, crying out a sting of curse words at Adara, but she didn't hear him. She didn't hear anything. Every ounce of her attention was on that boy. It couldn't be him. He'd dropped off the face of the earth years ago. Yet, here he was, alive and well. The blonde stood there frozen for what seemed like ages until the boys started marching away towards the academy. This gave her a jolt and she slammed the door to the counter open, running past it and out the door, ignoring the cries of the people behind her. "Dain." she said, but it was so faint she could barely hear it. Her voice seemed to have stopped working. "Dain. Dain. Dain." she repeated it over and over but it could barely get above a whisper, until she ran forward, practically screaming at the top of her lungs, "DAIN!" her green apron flapped out behind her as she forced her legs to move, even though they felt like Jelly.
Dain slowed then stopped, almost getting run over by the cadets behind him. He looked back to see who was calling his name, "He saw a young woman, about his age running towards him, she looked formilair but he couldn't place the name.
"Keep running MacArthur or you'll be scrubbing toliets for a week... With your tounge! Front of the pack NOW!" the General yelled at the top of his lounges.
That was all the insentive the half-blood needed and went into overtime, running as fast as he could to get to the frount of the group. It wasn't hard, he had run harder and longer during his questing days but the nagging question of who that blond girl in the starbucks apron was. In his mad dash Dain saw the Gray bus at the local gas station nearby.
Adara's eyes widened as they met the blonde boy's for a moment. It WAS him. There was no doubt about it. She opened her mouth to say something again but that damn General ordered him to keep moving. She watched as he turned the corner and was gone again. The blonde girl sumbled over to a bench, a hand on her mouth. She couldn't believe it. It had been years since she'd last seen him. Adara reached up and tapped the sides of her glasses, activating the screens in the lenses. Her pupils flicked all over the place, looking at various links and blinking to select them. She went to an old camp photo. There he was, Dain. Standing next to him, the girl Adara saw made her want to burst into tears. The girl she'd killed. And there she was, perfect make up, perfect hair, perfect outfit. Adara was disgusted, she wanted to scream at the girl in the photo, that she needed to get her act straightened up.
Adara took a moment to recover herself before walking back into the starbucks wincing at the coffee spilled everywhere and silently proceeded to wipe it up, thinking about what she'd say when her boss got back from lunch.
The next few weeks were just as one would expect it, drill sergants yelling in his face, obsicale corses and all around boot camp, with small breaks for physics and strategy lessons. At all of this Dain exceled, it was jsut like the time his father had put him through during his childhood so Dain was prepaired.
The only thing that bothered him was that woman, he knew he should have recognized her, but from where? Camp? No, the only half-bloods that would be here should have been the ones Dain saw walking down the halls of the Academy, he did talk to them though, not enough time. Still he couldn't shake the feeling he knew her. ~~~~~~~~~
It happened one day, about a month after he arrived, Dain was givin a free day, of course he was only told about it after he had run the 3 mile sprint with the rest of his company. So Dain, decided it was time to find out who that woman was.
He walked the mile back into the town that they had originally dropped him off at.
Adara leaned against the counter, resting her head in the palm of her hand, staring blankly at the opposite wall. Adara hadn't been able to focus ever since that day, almost a month ago. Adara had tried to get onto the Academy grounds at least ten times in the past month but she got stopped every time. She couldn't take it anymore! She had to talk to that guy. It was Dain, she just knew it. She had to ask him what happened during his time away from camp.
OOC.// Ugh I have to go!!
Dain looked around town and eventually found the starbucks that he and his squad had been dropped off next to when he had been shipped in. The half-blood took a deep breath and opened the door, the belling rining to announce his arrival. After a momment he looked around the place for any formilair faces.
Adara sighed and picked herself off the counter she turned to look in various metal appliances to look at her reflection and straightened her hair a bit. Then she sighed, "Welcome to Starbucks, how may I help you?" Her green apron fluttered out behind her as she turned and saw the man in front of the counter and she gasped. It was him... standing right in front of her! She slammed the door to behind the counter open and flew at him, her arms wrapping around his neck tightly. "Dain! We all thought you'd died or something! We were all so worried, you hadn't reported in for years! It's actually you!"
Having Adara suddenly recognize him was a big help in his search, though that didn't stop the shock of her jumping on him. The half-blood male kept his arms at his sides with a somewhat bewildered face on. Finnally he spoke up, "Umm Adara... Your making a scene..." he looked around at all the people staring at them now and couldn't help but shrug at them and giving them a, "Hey, you can't blame her," look.
Adara pulled away from Dain, extremely concious of all the people looking at her, but this time she didn't care. She only cared about Dain at that moment. Adara let her arms fall to her sides, staring up into Dain's gray eyes then, suddenly she raised her hand and threw a slap right at his cheek, her eyes starting to fill with tears. "Damn you Dain McArthur!" she yelled at him. "We've all felt horrible for years, thinking you were dead and all you can do when I finally find you is warn me about making a scene?" she yelled. Then, she tore off her apron and threw it on the counter and yelled at him, "Hows this for a scene, you a** hole!" she yelled before storming off to the womens' bathroom to cry in peace.
"Guess I deserved that..." Dain mummbled to himself as he rubbed his now sore cheek. He looked around at the people in the store, thinking on his next move. He saw the store manager motion towards the bathroom and Dain understood instantly.
Giving a deep sigh the young man walked over to the door and nocked before leaning on the wall next to it. It helped the door was around the corner from the main room so Dain felt at liberty to speak, "Hey Adara... I only have today to do as I please off campus, so do you want to sulk over things that are done and over with or do you want to catch up?"
Adara sat in a stall crying into a tissue. For once she didn't care that her makeup was runny.It felt nice to not care for once. Then, came that annoying knock at the door though and she had to care again. Adara got up, looking herself over in the mirror once, then clapped her hands and her make up seemed to move back in time, rolling back up her cheeks. Then she sighed and turned to the door, opening it a crack to look up at Dain, glaring slightly. "Why do you care all of a sudden?"
Dain shrugged, "Honestly? Well its been a while sense I've seen anyone from Camp, besides Mark(one of Dain's NPC brothers) who joined up at the Academy."
Dain then moved away slightly by walking down the hall before shrugging agian and looking over his shoulder, "That and girls as pretty as you are kind of hard to come by both on the road and in the Point."
