is amtgard at your park more like a sport or a game?
Sport meaning, mostly competitive fighting or a&s or whatever.
Game meaning more roleplay , more then just ditching. a lot more relxed then sport.

It's distinctly more of a sport in this area. The roleplay aspect is usually only done in certain instances. Sometimes the monarchy sets up a storyline for their reign and works it into their scheduled park visits. But it's definitely not done much at all on regular park weekends.
Ominique, 16-year Amtgard veteran that STILL doesn't have a "character".

I don't have a problem with roleplay if it's done well. I come from a technical theatre background, so I have an aversion to overacting and bad accents. I also dislike it when players use the "I'm just playing my character" line to explain why they're being an a$$ to everyone.
Then again on the flip side, I'm also getting really tired of a few of the stick-jocks who are now refusing to do any type of battlegame that involves the classes. They show up each weekend for the trenching and sparring only.

I am a larper,I'm not a half bad fighter, but I am a flurb. I wish we had more rp at my field, BUT a lot of the people don't know how to do it. SO it either becomes a senseless slaughter fest,or just like talking about the weather. ESPECIALLY the slaughter fest when our resident stick jocks come in and just come to senselessly kill EVERYTHING,makes no sense. All cause they're truly assholes XD
I don't hate stick jocks,I'm actually friends with a few,but a lot of them are just over arrogant c**k suckers whom feel the need to belittle everyone for not being obsessed with ditching. Like,I just laugh at them and talk back, but some newer/younger members get discouraged and actually quit because of the s**t they say. It brings our numbers down, which I don't want since WE JUST got Barony status

I'd love to say a little of both but the truth is the past few times I've been able to go we ditched for an hour and then sat around talking about everything and then passed on a class game to do another militia style game.

I'm in it mostly for the sport, but I haven't really gotten to see the other side of it. My group is mostly pro-sport and I haven't been able to go to any events yet.

I'd say throughout my kingdom it's mostly a sport. Nevwerwinter is getting better about the roleplay though, i miss it.

Depends which park I'm at; I live near two parks at the moment. One is definitely more 'sporty' right now, which is in large part because there just aren't enough people to get a solid class game going.
The other is a blend: during ditching, it's all business, during class games we call each other names. *shrug*
