I'm going further down than you.
One of my friends has been trying to get me into Dir en grey [one of the few VK bands I initially didn't like] and it took THIS to get me into them.
Someone should have just said "Go listen to Obscure"...
This is the uncensored version of the video...and this still isn't the FULL cut.

One of my friends has been trying to get me into Dir en grey [one of the few VK bands I initially didn't like] and it took THIS to get me into them.

But you have to find the right band with the right style and sound that's similar to something you'd listen to that was American made.
For instance, if you liked bands like...MCR and crap, you'd probably be more into Plastic Tree [ew...].
If you like classical sounds or aristocratic like sounds, one of the visual gods, Malice Mizer is your kingdom.
If you like symphonic metal, bands like Versailles (lovely chice), Moi dix Mois (who is led by the leader of Malice Mizer, Mana), Matenrou Opera and D are your cup of tea.
But if you like lighter stuff, Oshare Kei, which is just a branch of VK, is the way to go.
Antic Cafe, ayabie, LM.C, SuG [avoid at all costs unless you like annoying voices =/), .Zipper, etc, the first three listed being my personal favorites.
As far as Marilyn Manson goes, Dir en grey as probably as close as it gets. Mmm, maybe DIO - Distraught Overlord and possibly Exist Trace, as far as obscurity, oddness, and MM-like stuff goes. In fact, Marilyn Manson performed at V-Rock Fest in Japan a month or so ago. 3nodding

Your not rambling at all, i like hearing all someone has to say, I'm a big fan of german, russian, and french music. :3 And i'm more of a classical man myself. But i do like all genres. I like classical japanese music a lot. But some of their pop culture kind of scares me. XD Seizure city! XDDD

I heard German metal was pretty hardcore.

Well, everyone is weirded out by their pop culture when they first start listening or taking an interest to it, even I was.
I started off with simple J-pop and J-rock and once I learned A LOT more was able to branch out on my own and actually acquire specific tastes. Malice Mizer was my first stemming out test, and it worked immensely. Malice Mizer is my ALL TIME favorite band forever.
That's how I got into VK.
