The black of a dilated pupil became little more than a sliver as it pulled skyward, the cat-like ocular appendage growing slim with the light now pouring into it. The creature blinked, the brightness of the sky causing a bit of moisture to pool at the edges of his eye until he finally settled with his gaze on the ground around him once more, looking through what seemed to him to be a sea of golden grasses standing tall enough to hide him delightfully in. His face rightfully held a foxy grin, placed there what seemed perpetually as though his face had been plastered in that expression. In truth he was pleased with himself. Kreios had been tracking along the fall meadow, his long ears pointed toward the ground, and just a moment before he had been successful in pouncing a mouse out of its hole, swallowing it up before it had time to wiggle its way free. The easy hunt was enough to have him satisfied.
And he was off once more, his attention no longer peering through the sky for larger predators than himself, and burring himself in the grass, he felt his confidence mellow as he wondered if finding more interesting prey would be something substantial to occupy his afternoon. Maybe a quail would be bobbing about. The thought made him lick his lips, his tongue brushing over his wiry whiskers before returning to his slim maw. His tail spread out behind him, balancing himself as he padded on, his senses spreading as to search for the feathered delicacy.

Maaruk had stopped looking for larger predators than herself some time ago. Nestled comfortably in the thick of the waving sawbrush, she was much happier occupying herself with more interesting pursuits. One such pursuit held her now: struggling under one pitch-black paw and spraying downy feathers into her nose. The she-fox watching the grouse's struggles sneezed off the offending pinna, unperturbed as it drifted off to join the piles gathering around her body. This was a particularly stubborn grouse. She had held it down for so long that the feathers it shed were making her decent bedding.
She paid no mind to the rustling around her, focusing only on the bird as it quieted. The brush of her tail flickered, the pattern upon it flying up with the quickness of true fire and disturbing the down of the grouse's death throes. Catching this one out of its nest had been a delectable pursuit indeed - and not a bad way to spend a morning, overall.

The young male had indeed come across something interesting and it did consist of a feathery meal, however, this meal had already been brought down and slaughtered by another of his kind skillfully. He caught their scents before ever spotting them, the tall grasses obscuring them for a moment before he curiously investigated this new interest. Kreios wasn't one to shy away when in the company of one of his own, especially not if they had something yummy he might want to partake in, and if that meant a bit of thieving, well, he was a fox after all.
Upon finding the female and her meal, he cleared his throat, alerting her to him. Flicking his tail he pulled his ears back and lowered himself slightly, grinning as he slowly approached. "Hello Miss, pardon me for interrupting," he spoke, smiling all the while.
((So sorry it took me so long to reply))
