Sword beats axe because of the speed you can move when you use it and it can be maneuvered easily. An axe can cut usually right through the Lance so it makes the lance seem menial and weak, because of the power of the axe. The lance is longer and much easier to impale some one with when you are going against a sword user it's easier to use on a horse. So Sword beats Axe, Axe beats Lance, and Lance beats sword. Makes sense right. If not then.. I doni't know Lol.

This is simple my friend. The Axe is very powerful but it is very heavy which slows down the axe-weilder and which gives the swordsman time to dodge and strike. The sword is very accurate and light but it doesn't pact a strong punch. Do to the fact that the sword is light leaves gives the swordsman the upper edge with its agility.
