...as the Weather Channel is calling this winter storm covering the east coast.

How much snow have you got? Ice? Icy winds? Or just cold rain? How bad are the conditions where you are?

Looking out on my deck tonight, I'd estimate there's about an inch of snow here in Mebane so far.
It was a very cold day today, and the wind was gusty and biting cold.
it didn't start snowing til about 2pm. Before that it was just light rain.

We have got some of all of it.
Started snowing around 8 am, then turned to sleet then to rain.
Later it turned back into sleet, by 1pm it was snowing like crazy.
Very pretty, but I dread the thoughts of having to work in this mess tomorrow.

Because of the mixed in rain, the snow froze and we had a real mess around here. Frozen snow all over the pavements. mad

System.out.print("

It snowed/rained in Raleigh but nothing stuck for long.
I sat inside and watched for the most part... snow is nice and all but not really cold rain.
My dad, in Chapel Hill, got a bit more, but is from the north and was laughing about how stuff shut down for the snow. xD;

Greensboro got raped by snow.

I think the most we had in like 4 or 5 years.

I went to the mountains for the holidays and went the long way, south down 85 to 76 at Clemson, then west in 123/76, then 76 on to Clayton and through to Hiawassee, GA. The route had no snow.
But yesterday we went shopping in Franklin, and crossed the mountains to get there, The tops had a nice white coat and it was obvious people had been coming up there to play in the snow up in Chunky Gal Gap--there were scattered snowmen & snow castles along the highway. biggrin
I'm glad I didn't drive on 40 through Asheville,where I hear they got around 15 inches.
At this lower elevation farther west, there was no snow. But the mountaintops all around are white and beautiful.

I think we got about 3 inches here from the latest winter storm. And the temperatures were really cold--about 19 degrees with a wind chill of 5 degrees.
Anybody else?

Hello, all!

We weren't hit with the winter weather as badly as you folks. We got 3/4 of inch of "sneezle" ... name the Weather Channel guy called it while he was reporting from Charlotte on Jan 30... a little snow, some freezing drizzle, and a lot of sleet.

We had a very brief snow flurry (no accumulation but pretty to see) before midnight Jan 30. But temps went down to 10 degrees, freezing everything, of course.

We had some sun yesterday and the temp finally got up to 38 by early afternoon. It melted on some of the roads.

Schools here were canceled last night because of black ice ... good call. It's too bad we didn't get some snow for the kids to enjoy today. Oh well.

And now the Weather Channel is saying we might get freezing rain late tonight? *sigh* Yep, it's definitely February.

Two weeks ago Winston-Salem (boondocks out in the county where plows don't go) we got whacked with3-5 inches of snow which turned to ice because of freezing rain on top of it.

Friday Feb 5 there was 1 1/2 inches of snow followed by freezing rain. Today Saturday Feb 6 it's melting, but there's still snow left from two weeks ago.

Monday is supposed to be above freezing. Tuesday the prediction is for freezing rain.

Is this a terrible winter or what.

So far we still have electricity at least. I hope everyone else is doing ok despite all this extreme weather.

Phooh, this isn't extreme, it's just highly annoying.
I know it's been really dry the past few years, but I know you still must remember the blizzard years, with knee-deep snow and jack-knifed semis in the interstate causing massive traffic jams in the middle of it all, and the ice storm years, with broken trees and shredded power lines. We can handle this stuff we're getting this year nicely. smile

And I heard rumor of maybe more snow coming our way....
PostPosted: Mon Mar 01, 2010 8:48 pm

I really hope that rumor is wrong. I am so tired of snow already. It is fun when you are a kid, but when you have to work in it you really start to hate it. with my job I have to go to work no matter what the weather is like. gonk
