Maybe you thought this would be a boring place filled with history and dust, but in amongst all of the Assassin's Creed storylines are threads of true historical events and happenings. Some of us would like to know a bit more about just that.
Post anything here from comments on historical discrepencies to profiles for the real inhabitants of ages past. Whatever your book-loving, history-buff heart desires is fair game!
{I dunno know about you guys but I'd personally like to know a bit more about the historical figures they did use in the games, the lesser known ones that is, to see what inspired the plotlines.}

SPOILER FOR AC2
In "The Truth" videos, some of the puzzles revolve around many known events, mainly involving a series of up to 50 pieces of Eden.
Rumor: Christopher Colombus, upon finding a translated Codex (don't know full story, so I'm winging it) found out about a hidden land. This, supposedly was his true reason to set sail. In the end, he was saved from assassins by Ezio, who, with his help and defense from a still living Rodrigo Borgia, was able to get Christopher funded. From there, history picks up.
Truth: Christopher never knew what he would find, simply wanting new trade routes to the known world. Although he did have trouble getting funded, there was nothing stated that attempts were made on his life.
Rumor: Nikola Tesla, enemy of the Templar, was coming upon the greatest discoveries of any known period, using the Orb of Eden to power his massive machines until he could find a resource to do so. With this, he made the AC current one of the fastest growing sources of electrical power. But, as it sparked, the Templars worked to stop him. They finally one this long struggle for who supplied the world's main power source. With the aid of an elephant, they showed how deadly the AC current was, blowing out the camera and killing the elephant. Through this, they labeled him crazy, where he died alone, supposedly after the Templar took his piece of Eden
Truth: Tesla WAS coming into a big discovery, before, as the rumor states, people began trying to find something better. The Elephant's Electrical End footage was the most harmful, knocking Tesla to an age where he could no longer be funded. His greatest creations done, he never completed a supposed "super-weapon."
More to come as I play through AC2 and AC1 again this Christmas.
