Now on first look at one Miss. Saige Black, any person might assume she be a young adult, only just in her twenties. This assumption can be made through a series of processes, first being her small, petite frame, another her pale features, and another being the bright glow in her emerald green eyes. Yet, any of these assumptions would be dead wrong against the 29-year-old girl who worked at a small store in the shopping district of Barton by day, and at the Chat Bar of the same small town by night.
Saige was a very quiet girl, who kept to herself and was familiar with few regular patrons. So, when she received a plain letter with only a return address one early morning, Saige did not know how to respond. It was a simple letter, one that just requested her presence to a random compound and said nothing else. However, at the end it said that it would be worth Saige's while, and that it is ideal for her to respond as quickly as possibly.
So, on her day off from the shop, she packed a back and walked through the lands of Gaia, following the instructions and trying to find out where this place was. As she walked, it took a few hours since she got lost and didn't feel the need to ask for directions. Finally, however, Saige discovered the large compound and walked inside. Her raven locks were high on her head as she glanced around the chilled room, wondering what she would do now with the same letter clutched tightly in her left hand.
"Oh...what am I doing here..."

There was a very sudden 'AHA!" to be heard from somewhere downstairs and quite suddenly the heat came back on. A slightly disgruntled looking little woman soon was hurrying up a set of stairs right behind Saige and nearly bowled the woman over. Apoxi was the epitome of 'looking too young', with her round freckled cheeks, upturned nose, small stature and lack of definite female chest developments. Hell, the only thing about her that wasn't small was the her big poofy brown hair (and maybe the huge round glasses on her nose but those paled in comparison to her hair). On first or even second glance, she didn't look like much of a scientist. True, Miss Blighto wore a lab coat, but she also had on a thick knit sweater and a long fuzzy scarf. Smiling pleasantly up at the visitor, the little woman took a few moments to decide if Saige was in the right place or not. "Did you get a letter?" she inquired cheerily, stopping over at the front desk to turn her CD player back on. (OOC note: XD I forgot to mention that the labs are about as not-scary as they can get usually, particularly in the front room. Apoxi's scared of those super clean and cold laboratories where you feel like everything's watching you. This place is brightly lit and decorated for the holidays to boot. XD)

Saige turned when she heard the call, gasping lightly before scrambling out of the way. Watching in silent fascination at the actions of the girl, she simply stayed by the door. In that moment Saige looked over the girl's appearance with her poof hair and glasses. It was strange to think about it in that moment, and even more mind boggling to wonder just why she was summoned to this place in the first place.
So, when Apoxi took a moment to address Saige, the girl nearly jumped from being so deep in thought.
"Oh, yes...yes I did. It was such a strange letter that I made sure I had time to come over here," She stepped up to the desk and paused as music filled the room, before adjusting her voice so it still could be heard.
"I'm sure you already know, but my name is Saige...Saige Black."
((Okay XD I wasn't sure what it looked like, so when I said chilled, I meant that they had AC on XD I always notice how cold buildings are, especially corporate ones lol))

"No, I didn't." Apoxi laughed, "I'm horrible with names and Kayen sends out the letters. But nice to meet you Saige."
After a moment, she turned back around to the woman, "Tell me, what are your feelings on children?"

Raising her brows a bit at the response, she nodded with the explanation before adding a soft, "It is a pleasure to meet you too..." She trailed off, and got one name off of the letter, but assumed that this girl was a partner, or some sort of face to represent the business. Placing her hands in her pockets, she glanced around the holiday-marked building before catching the question the girl had.
"Children?" She repeated with a soft laugh, "I guess I've always had a soft spot for children...but never found someone to settle down with myself."
Suddenly a heated blush crossed her face at admitting such a detail, but she pushed it off quickly, "But why do you ask?"

"Ah see, we're researching the results of certain genetic combinations in children, and the kids we've made need proper homes so they can grow and develop right instead of just being stuck in the labs all day." the woman explained, "It'd be kinda cruel to keep them cooped up here all their lives just cause we wanna see some things about genetic traits they have so we can develop medicines for them."
"But yeah, you were picked to care for one of the kids. Would you like to come see them and pick one or would you like me to pick?"

Saige listened softly, a dry feeling creeping up her throat at the thought of children being created without parents. It was a cruel subject, to grow without the protection of a father and the love of a mother, and the adult felt the ache in her heart just picturing the lonely children. So, when the woman in front of her spoke about bring forth parents to the children, Saige's heart felt a tug, gentle and soothing away the pain it once held.
"Thinking of children without parents is almost depressing, parents are so important...I would be honored to bring forth the same loving that I gained from my own mother...I only hope it can be enough..." She smiled softly at that, brushing her hair back and thinking of the next question.
It would be hard, seeing them all and only being able to choose one, but she nodded none the less, "Yes, please...I would love to see them..."
As the words brought a final tone to her voice, she blinked and realized just what she got herself in to. Chuckling softly, she shook her head, and hoped she would not regret this decision.

"Well their biological parents live here and they'll be able to visit from time to time. Not all of them are very loving, mind you, but there are some to make up for the less loving ones." Apoxi explained as she led the woman down a nearby hall that featured several doors to the simple rooms they kept the little ones in while they waited for a home.
"Just look in the windows for now, but please don't go in. I don't want any promises made to anyone just yet."

She paused at the thought, and really started to wonder what she got herself into. Maybe, Saige wondered, it could have been smarter to ask just what kind of experiments went on in this building, instead of being so over-emotional at the thought of a child without a parent. Tentatively, she glanced toward Apoxi before putting her hand up to the wall, and slowly peered into a window on a door.
From inside the room, in a water filled tub, sat a girl with weaving hair, her eyes glowing and the shadows seeming to dance around her body. At the sudden movement from the door, the girl turned sharply and looked at Saige, blinking before a flap of a tail threw water from the tub.
Saige backed away quickly, turning to the woman with a confused expression, "Does she...have a tail?" She asked softly, glancing back to the door and feeling another tug at the space where her heart was. The girl seemed to be calling her with the silent, curious expression.

Apoxi stood on her tiptoes to see. "Yes, yes she does. That would be one of our siren nightmare crossbreeds. Good kid, no powers surfacing so far." the woman commented. "You can go in and meet her if that's the one you'd like."

Saige knew that, after seeing the bright eyes and the lonely smile of the toddler, that she had found her match. It was amazing how after one simple look, she could have come so attached. And as the heritage of the child was explained, Saige found herself not minding where the girl came from, because no matter what the soft eyes were still the same. The eyes belonged to a child in need of a home.
"I would love to...I mean...both meet her and possibly become her mother..."

Nodding silently, she glanced to the door again one last time before mumbling a soft, "I...I'm sure...I would like to give her a home!" And she grinned at that, nodding when Apoxi said she was getting paperwork and than moving toward the door.
Stopping at the door, she took a deep breath before touching the handle softly and than gently opened the door.
The young girl had kept her eyes on the door since the woman looked through, wondering if this time she would finally get a home. She knew people were coming to take care of them, that much was explained, but she thought it would be faster than this. So, when the door finally opened, she sat straight as her hair flew around her eyes in a surprised flow. The glow of her eyes appeared through the shadows, and she grinned when the adult came into the room.
Saige softly walked into the room, unsure of how to act, before she took steps toward the bathtub and the child. Bending down at the edge, and noting in the back of her mind that the shadows seemed to swallow the small child, she set her hands down.
"My name is Saige....and I'd like to give you a home..."

Soon enough, the papers were signed and Apoxi had given her all the information necessary about getting monetary help from the labs, bringing kids for stagely visits and other such things. And after that, the pair were on their way.
