You mean besides happening to notice the little balls of colours, or those shadows that suddenly disappear when you look directly at them? You can try meditation, or just sit in the house when it is empty. Turn off all appliances, heaters or fans etc... and just listen and watch.

As for "never being alone", well, we are supposed to have spirit guides and deceased family that stand with us. But you needn't be shy, between veils and barriers they don't see much, nor do they have that interest. But if you still feel embarrased you can always tell them to bugger off until you are done.

The spirit in my house is very playful... (And has a slapstick sense of humor) Some fine examples:

*Every now and then when I'm putting dishes up, it likes to shut the cabinet door and whack me in the head. stressed

*I try lighting insence in my house, but everytime I'd try to light one, it would go out. (I once even had my little sister come over to give it a try, but she failed also.)

I haven't really taken the time to get to know the spirit or understand it, I guess I should stop being so lazy... Sometimes I get annoyed by him/her/it, but it's all in good fun I suppose! (I think... sweatdrop )

I'm not sure how it works...guess it depends on the spirit and its purpose.

But even if you are aware, it doesn't mean every ghost in the proximity will come for a visit.

they are just troubled, tortured or had a unforgettable death they are people who tend to teach people something they know or something that will happen.they are a PHENOMENA. this phenomena is an disruptance into the real world, these disruptance comes wfrom a different realm that sorta is un heard of

orbs on the other hand, has always been happening they are no phenomena they are just a mass of left over enrgy in the room or area they are small or bright or have tails they are basically nothing if cought on tape its natural and/or could be a dust partical for i need very strong evidence to show that orbs are an actual phenomena i doubt it

to see if a spirit is in your house place a cross on a napkin draw the outline of the cross onto the napkin and leave it over night. if it moves you might have a bit of paranormal activity in your house/bar/whatever be sure to tape it so you know no one has meddled with it. also take a camera and place a ball on a flat surface it moves its paranormal make sure your area is level though. you can also place a drink in the middle of nowhere or have a pen next to a opened notebook or a piece of paper you get scribbles or anything you have a phenomena theres a few example on how to find some paranormal activity in your house

I wouldn't say never. I had one particular spirit who didn't seem to like me. I still do not know why, but I don't live at my mom's house anymore, so he can't bug me. My room was literally 3 feet across the hall from the door to the basement. Whenever the door was left open, and I would walk past it, I would feel something push me towards the stairs. Not fun. I started being the door nazi and making sure the door was ALWAYS closed! The spirit didn't like that too much and I told him that he can go away. Well, he didn't like that, so he stayed. (you really have to show respect to spirits...)

Most spirits won't hurt you. Most spirits are lost and just need to cross over. So you can simply tell them that they need to. Some will, and some need convincing. Sometimes they won't leave until they get a message to their loved one.

A good anime to watch is Bleach. It really simplified some of this kind of thing...its a good anime. But then, I am biased because I like a lot of animes!

I use to live in an old farm house. And we use to hear someone walking upstairs. Problem is the upstairs was gutted as the owner planned on redoing it and it never got done. So it wasn't used. Also my brother was staying with us and he had a cat cage and it was in front of the window in the living room and move from the middle of the window to the opposite wall all by itself. Noone was even near it...I think it was pretty cool and I was never scared.....hugs

My place has the little shadow thingies that lurk around, but on occasion I see the balls of light & sparkles.

My parents place has more active spirits with human forms. There is a North American Native who likes to sit on the steps that go from the main floor to the entrance way. And sometimes, we can see a Man in a Victorian Style suit and mustach in the kitchen. We actually think he might be Mom's spirit guide. She calls him "Uncle Frank" biggrin
