Name : Elaine Warwick
x x xNickname : Lain
Age : 35
Gender : Female
Occupation : Bookstore Owner/Rare Book Collector
Region : Northern Imisus

Appearance :
x x xHair : Brown, slightly graying.
x x x xStyle : Long, reaching down to about the small of her back, no bangs. She keeps it tied back in a bun or braided most of the time.
x x xEyes : Blue.
x x xSkin Tone : Pale.
x x xBuild : Slightly pudgy around the belly and a bit busty.

Personality : Elaine is a classic book enthusiast. She loves reading books of all sorts and collecting whatever rare books she can find. She enjoys traveling whenever she gets the chance, which usually is whenever she is on a book hunt. Each time she goes on one of these book hunts, she treats it like her own little adventure. She can be a bit delusional, mixing up fiction from books with reality. While she's never had a romantic relationship with anyone, she will sometimes confuse herself with a character from a book. Or when talking to someone about a past event, it won't be something that actually happened to her. Some people think she's a constant liar after realizing that a lot of what she says isn't true. But she isn't consciously meaning to lie to them. For her, the line between fantasy and reality is very, very blurred. Elaine tries to be friendly to everyone she meets. But sometimes that blurred reality will make her confuse a person with the villain from one of the books she read. At those times, she might act coldly toward the person, giving them the stink eye while being suspicious of their every word and action.

Though she has never had any children of her own, Elaine enjoys taking care of others. A lot of the time, she will take in random stray animals and feed them. She likes nursing sick or injured animals back to health. She can't always help the animals she finds. But with her great quest for knowledge, she tries to learn as much as she can on how to help them. She hates having to let the animals go after taking care of them and is often very weepy when she releases them back into the wild. As much as she would love to keep them, she knows it's better for the animals if she sets them free again.

History : Elaine grew up the youngest of three children. Thomas is the oldest of the three, and Amelia is the middle child. Her mother Lilian came from a fairly wealthy family, but being one of six children, her inheritance wasn't that much. Lilian had always been good at sewing and managed to find work as a seamtress. Her father Reginald was an only child. His family ran a book store, and he inherited after his father's death. Growing up, Elaine had her siblings to play with, until they got older and entered that phase when they didn't want their baby sister tagging along with them and their friends. That was an unpleasant time for Elaine to look back on since, unlike her siblings, she always had trouble making friends. Without her siblings to play with, she ended spending a lot of time alone. But it was at that time that her father started bringing her along to work at the book store when Elaine didn't have school work to occupy her time. Elaine had always enjoyed the nightly reading her parents did before tucking her in for the night. Her father taught her all sorts of things about books when she came with him to the book store, from how books were printed and bound to the histories behind the books and their authors. Elaine fell instantly in love with everything about books and started spending as time as she could at the book store or reading. Elaine was twenty-two when her father died. Instead of letting her family sell off the book store, she decided to take it over. She moved out of her family home and into her own little apartment above the book store.

When she was little, it was discovered that Elaine had an odd little habit: she refused to touch doorknobs with her bare hands. With her habit of following after people, she often didn't have to touch the doorknob herself since the person she trailed after often held the door open for her. But on one visit to her grandparents' house, her grandmother Catherine caught Elaine trying to open the backdoor to go play outside with her siblings. This wouldn't have been the cause of a big deal if Elaine hadn't been using her skirt to keep her hand from touching the doorknob, showing off her undergarments to anyone that happened to pass by. Her grandmother was shocked by the inappropriate display in her granddaughter. Being only a child, Elaine didn't understand what was so wrong with what she did. She never outgrew this habit, but as she got older, she started carrying around pairs of gloves and handkerchiefs so she wouldn't have to touch a doorknob directly. No one could really figure out the reason behind this habit of hers. It was simply something she always did. Even Elaine couldn't explain why she did it.

Like any child, Elaine had a love for sweets. She would try to sneak candies and cookies, but her mother always managed to catch her in the act. For her, sweets were very much an addiction. Whenever sweets were around, Elaine just had to have some, unable to resist them. Her mother tried to break this little addiction by not having sweets in the house, but her father, also having a bit of a sweet tooth, would often give Elaine some candy while they were at the bookstore. As an adult, she has that sweet tooth she had as a child, but now she also loves the bitter taste of coffee. Whenever she sits back to relax and read a book, she likes to have a slice of cake and cup of coffee.

Name : Pharos
Item : Black Cat
Gender : Male

Personality : Pharos is extremely unfriendly toward strangers. He will often react violently, trying to scratch them, if they approach to closely or try to pet him. He especially hates when people try to give him a belly rub. Having been abandoned and treated poorly, Pharos is distrustful of people, but he is also very lonely, never trusting anyone enough to be able to really open his heart to them.

Item History : Pharos was abandoned in an alleyway when he was only a few weeks old when the family that owned his mother decided they didn't wish to keep the litter of kittens. Three of his brothers and sisters found homes to adopt them. But Pharos and a sister kitten were unlucky. He doesn't know what happened to his sister after she ran off the day they were left in the alleyway. Since then, he had to struggle to survive, digging through garbage or chases rats on the streets for food. He learned to fight early on, or the bigger animals would take his food or try to eat him. The people he encountered didn't take kindly to stray cats. They would shoo him away with brooms or kick at him or throw things at him to make him go away.

A year ago, Pharos met a strange individual while he was scavenging for his next meal. When the human Elaine approached him, Pharos reacted in his normal manner and scratched the outstretched hand. But oddly, this didn't seem to daunt the human. Elaine left him a few scraps of food. Pharos was hesitant to accept the offer, but his hunger won out and he gobbled up the scraps. Pharos was surprised when Elaine returned the next day, and they repeated their interaction from the previous day. This went on for several days. No matter how many times Pharos scratched at her, Elaine acted like it didn't bother her and would leave Pharos some food. This was very curious as far as humans went, and despite his better judgment, Pharos found himself warming up to this particular human. Maybe they weren't all bad after all.

Interested in this human, Pharos followed her home. Elaine was more than happy to accept Pharos into her home above the bookstore that she owned. Elaine lived alone with the exception of the occasional animal that she took in and cared for until they were healthy enough to return to the wild outdoors. It was a pleasant, quiet place, and especially warm and cozy when it rained. Pharos grew to like having a roof overhead and not worrying so much about where to get his next meal. Elaine made no attempts to keep him confined to her home, so Pharos could wander around freely. He liked going out to the streets and hunting a few rats every now and again, even though Elaine fed him well. Having lived most of his life on the streets, he was still a hunter at heart. On a recent excursion, however, Pharos caught a diseased rat, unknowing of the illness it carried, and unfortunately contracted the Plague.

Jack sounds like the sort of character that could turn into a real dreamboat xDD <3 But I did have a few concerns. For one thing, there is very little indication of what negative consequences Jack endures as a result of his free-spiritedness. Unless he is totally at ease with whatever life throws his way, but even then, there should be something about him that could count as a genuine vice or inconvenience.

Secondly, there's no explanation as to how this cat in particular became contaminated with a Plague. I'm not sure if you're required to include that, but it's just something to think about all the same.

Hm, genuine vice or inconvenience? I guess I'll have to ponder over that. Not sure what exactly that could be.

Oh? I didn't know if we needed something about that. I just kind of thought like history of how the Plague related to the guardian or how the guardian encountered the Plague.

Yeah, I wasn't so sure about that second part. We'll have to ask Roo about that one to know for sure.

All in all, though, I really love your concept item/Keeper~

Thanks~ =3

I finally got around to rewriting everything. I know that a lot probably needs fixing. Critiques are very much welcomed!

Hey Kaz! What you have is great so far, though there's one thing I want to point out.

The item history is very cute; I do like the way that Pharos interlinked with Tobias' own love for animals. We don't seen to know much about Tobias other than his antisocial personality, however, outside of his affection for animals. It'd be great if he had more aspects to him, or if we could read more about how his mind works, and the several sides of him as a human being.
