...Does it get better?
First of all, I found the game a couple days ago, thinking I was so lucky because it was the original game, with all expansion packs and everything for $25 at eb games, because some guy a few years ago told me the actual game was so rare and I would probably never find it. Of course I bought it, the game had a good rating, so why not? Plus I had been wanting to play an online final fantasy forever!
I finally got it downloaded today, and I must say, it was a huge disapointment.
First off, the graphics were fairly bad. I'm not one of those people who has to have the most amazing graphics, and if they suck, the game automatically sucks. While graphics are somewhat important, I can still enjoy myself playing something from the PSone. At least the opening movie was decent.
The controls are also very confusing. I find it hard to do anything at all. Maybe I'm just not used to moving the character with the 2, 4, 6, and 8 keys, and having the camera be controlled by the arrow keys. And they don't tell you much about how to open menus and stuff, at least in my opinion...
So my question is, for those of you who have played it,...Should I keep at it, because it will get better, or is it a lost cause and I should just trade it in or sell it? Cause after 15 minutes I was shaking my head at this game and logged out.
(sorry for the rant, I'm just real confused right now. Help is appreciated!)

Since you just started out in the game, make a new character, and choose to join the server: Quetzacoatl. That's the server I'm on. My name is Chronofantasy, I'll help you out with the game since I've been playing it for about 4 years now.
It's better to purchase the Ultimate pack for all the expansions and what not, and you might want to get a gamepad controller for your computer, since it's easier to play that way.
Send me a private message on here and let me know when you'll be in the game, or if you can figure it out in FFXI, type this in the game once you're on the Quetz server: /sea all Chronofantasy - Then send me a tell and you can chat to me th way if you see me online when you're on.
Hope it works out. ^^

I'm not sure if I have much disscussion to offer, lyle, as I only played for about 15 minutes. I found menus kinda hard to navigate, and the only way I really accomplished something was by looking at the keys and commands in the little instruction booklet.
I also came from WoW, and I guess that I just found overall the game had good controls and everything seemed to make sense to me. Of course, I'm open to new games and ways to play them, but the controls on FF XI seemed rather difficult to understand, but that is most likely cause I haven't gotten used to them, and just gave up.
I've been thinking lately about trying it again, but I'm all of a sudden swamped with the homework I was supposed to do over Christmas break. What kinda teacher gives you homework over Christmas? So maybe I'll give it another try sometime soon. ---
Thanks, Chrono, I just might try that out. I did purchase the ultimate pack, and did about 5 hours of downloading things, so when I got on the game, maybe I just didn't have the greatest mood and gave up too quickly.
If you don't mind me asking, what's a gamepad contoller?

The one I bought was $25, and it was the ultimate pack. As far as paying for play time, it's less then WoW, but if I understand correctly, it's an extra dollar everytime you create a new character. The base cost is about $12 or so, while every extra character adds another dollar per month.
