This week my husband took me to see Avatar the movie (which was not based on the cartoon as I originally thought). As I sat watching it I couldn't help but notice all the pagan overtones. I also noticed how strongly it resembled one of my favorite childhood movies, Ferngully.
Anyhow I thought I would start a topic about movies that you were surprised to find contained pagan themes.

The lead Scientist Mentions though that "It's not some Pagan Religious thing, It's Something Biological with the planet, It's Alive!"
Though I do Agree.
Also, That movie just makes you hate the Human Greed Even more and more. xDD The Energy around my body was hot with Anger. I almost wanted to rip those Scorpion jets out of the sky myself.
Also, I think Any movie with a Religion in it other than the Abrahamic Religions has a pagan theme. Though I did not expect it from The Mists of Avalon. Though I kinda did, Which is why I watched it.

meh, "Dances with Wolves" ripoffs don't impress me. They kinda annoy me actually. I mean, "Dances with Wolves" annoyed me itself, so knockoffs like "Avatar" and "The Last Samurai" annoy me doubly.
The noble savage motif is just as inappropriate as the ignoble savage.

I just thought of Avatar as the whole Hollywood liberal save the earth thing.
I can't think of any movies off the topic of my head, but I must say Spongebob Squarepants definitely hints at some Pagan ideas.

So did the Smurfs.
I didn't really mean for this to be a discussion on Avatar, I intended for it to be a discussion on movies that you liked that had pagan themes.

yea i noticed that too. thats why i really love the movie so much. me and my boyfriend really got into a big debate over it though because he says that the whole movie is just based on making you feel crappy for being human and that being destructive is just human nature. he follows the line of that one guy who says 'you cant throw a stick in the forest without hitting some sort of sacred fern.'

The one that stands out the most is the episode where Spongebob is excited that it is the first day of summer and he dresses up like a flower and says lets sing solistice carols.

Well yeah, but he makes the common error of somehow supposing Midsummer is the beginning of summer. Srsly, what's up with people thinking that? xd He celebrates Leif Erikson day too, come to that xd Leif Erikson >>> Columbus.

If Any of you like The Mists of Avalon, please please please read the book!!!
This one is corny but I always say that Divine secrets of the Ya -ya Sisterhood is about a bunch of Catholic Women who don't know they're Pagans, but then again, its more obvious in the book.
The Most obvious one is probably the Wicker Man. That Movie, original and the remake, have sparked tons of interesting conversations in our pagan community.
I liked Avatar, it made me proud to be a pagan. It also made me proud to be a human. I would like to think its not a movie about how bad humans are as it is about how the really good humans can stand up to the ones "in Charge" and make a difference.
Its late here and my brain is shutting down, I'll probably have a lot more tomorrow

I forgot about Wicker Man, although I do prefer the original to the remake. Speaking of original vs. remake and Pagan themes, there is Clash of the Titans. Yes, it is more about mythology than religion but I don't know the remake thing made me think about it. Scooby Doo and the Witches Ghost talks about Wiccans and Witches however, it is not accurate or favorable of witches.
There is also The Craft, of course and Practical Magic.
