I just got a Meade from the DS2000 series a Newtonian with a 114mm Aperture and a 1000 focal. It has a go too mount and a red dot scope, which I'm thinking about scraping for a rifle scope because I heard from reviews that the scope sucks.

The go too mount by its self was worth the sale price of $150, I've seen it priced for 300 on websites MEADE's own website has it priced for 329.

Its been too cloudy to use it so far I'm having to wait for the weather to improve. I have no complaints so far other than my dvd instructions didn't play I've been having bad luck with dvds lately. Its not a problem though because i can watch the video on Meade's website.

I just focused in on the moon with my telescope, its pretty amazing I'm siting in my room and looking out my window with the telescope. I'm impressed with the optics I didn't expect it to be this good. This is the first telescope I've had that I was able to use. The one's most parents buy for their kids have such a small field of view their practically impossible to use unless your an expert at observing. this one also has a small field of view of only 4.5 digrees but that's enough for me to find what I'm looking for. I have a small problem with the mount not holding the telescope exactly where I want it, but if I point it a tad bit higher it makes up for the lose grip of the mount.

And the review I read about the red dot scope is true it does suck but I'm still happy with the telescope over all.

I have a telescope too, you connect it to my laptop and it takes forever just to see some tiny star...

You mean you can take digital pictures like if it was a camera?
That sounds awesome! I should get one...

Oh and btw if you want to see anything other than some random star you should look up some sky charts to see where to look for some interesting astronomical objects.

I got my first telescope about 2 months ago. Unfortunately it was cloudy for 2 weeks before I got to try it. When the clouds finally left I tried it on the moon. Wow! I later went on to look at Mars, the Orion nebula, Jupiter and Saturn. Saturn is my favourite although I have wake up about 3 am to see it, plus it's rings are almost pointing at Earth currently sad

My telescope is a (5") Powerseeker 127EQ.
So far I am really happy with it although it's not like the hubble images. smile
Here is a picture of it! http://www.celestron.com/c3/images/files/product/21049_2008powerseeker_mid.gif

damn that ones nice, I need some more eye pieces for my telescope though I'm kinda new to the world of telescopes I've observed with my naked eye before my telescope, so I know a bit about where to look but my equipment knowledge needs to be improved but my astronomy magazines can help me in that department. 3nodding

I found a article on eye pieces off of sky and telescope I learned quite a bit so I thought I'd share it with you guys

Guide to Eyepieces

I have a x50 eyepiece and a x250 eyepiece. But my telescope also included a x3 extra to put together with the x50 making it a x150.
I don't think they are the best quality though as they came with my pretty cheap scope but I am happy with them.

Does anyone here have a solar filter for their telescope? I'm thinking about getting one but I'm not sure it is worth it. The good ones are about $80.

I'm also thinking about a moon filter. biggrin
