I would rather learn spanish. I like the way it sounds. And you're right about the Japanese thing.

I'm with Cloudy, German, Russian, and French all the way. They have a french class in my high school, but I didn't have the room in my schedual for it.
I'd have to pick Spanich because it's a European language. I realy don't want to because of all those ******** who say "Oh, learn spanish, will all the mexicans coming here it'll just make it easier for them" This is America, we speak english here. Although we don't have a national language, its what we teach our kids to speak, English is a required class in our schools.

Actually there are only about 4 or 5 states that don't have a national language.. In almost every state English is still the national language.

Wait a minute, I thought the national language was a federal matter, considering the whole "national" part...

In Canada, we have to learn french at grade 4, up until grade 10, where we can drop out. I think it's just a thing that people aren't ever happy with what they have. I'd so much rather learn spanish than french, but I bet a lot of people who learn spanish in school'd rather learn french.

In all fairness, unless your friend really IS just a weeaboo...liking something Japanese or the language itself doesn't make you a weeaboo...It's not having any knowledge of the country other than what you see out of manga and anime and running around thinking your cute by saying random s**t like "Kawaii!" instead of attempting to learn the actual language.
But in the event that she is a weeaboo, I would probably laugh at her too... I don't like Japan because I feel it makes me cool...but I take interest in their culture and pop culture and take the time to learn about it so I don't sound stupid... =/ Which...but the sounds of it...she doesn't...
Spanish is much more easier to learn than Japanese, but I would more than likely never use it... I pick Japanese...I'd use it 10x more than Spanish...but I'd choose to learn Irish Gaelic fluently over both...if I had the option to, but I don't...

Well...I know both Spanish and Japanese and French and Serbian and some Russian...so, really...out of all of them...I preferred French. I just enjoyed it a lot more.
Though if I really had to pick between Spanish and Japanese, I would pick Spanish. I like it.
@ Suma...I know some old Gaelic =3

I would never use Spanish so there'd be no sense in learning it. I might use Japanese here and I actually did take it for two years in high school but that was really just because it's an easy language to learn.
I actually want to re-learn French. It's not taught properly in schools; all you end up retaining are bogus words like, 'pomme' and a few verbs. I think it's ridiculous that all our (Canada) schools aren't French immersion since we are a dual language country except no one out west speaks French (unless they're a government employee?)! It's far more likely that they'd speak German/Cantonese/Mandarin. Either we need to get rid of the dual language business or we need to actually BE a dual language country. The way we are now is so ******** lazy and half-assed.
