There were so many things to get used to now. After getting out of the hospital and settling in back with her parents, Yvette still felt out of place. She had been gone for a whole year, but her room had been left the exact same way she had left it before she went to Barren Pines. Which was all a sham. It was comforting that her parents had wanted to preserve her memory by leaving the room the exact same as it was before, but now that she was back, it felt odd. Comforting, but odd. However, now there was a person living in the room again, and some things needed to get updated. She was no longer the 17 year old she had been, but now was the 18 year old with so much more creativity she wanted to express. With a small amount of money and her "new" cellular phone, she had hopped onto the local bus in a rather flamboyant jumpsuit she had designed over a year ago. She accented it with a red cloth hair band as well, hoping to pull out the scant amount of reds from her outfit. There were a few beads dangling from her hair and from the opening along her chest. In all honesty, it almost looked like Yvette belonged in the 1970's. Knowing that when dealing with public transportation, you couldn't afford to be picky about where you sat, she sat down next to a boy with black hair. She scooted in and offered a quiet " I hope you don't mind me sitting here." In the back of her mind, she could hear her daddy giving her a hard time about sitting next to a boy, in which she clutched onto her rather plain cellphone as if to help the thought pass.

Why was Grayson on a bus? Well, Grayson wanted to go peruse a costume shop all the way across town, and he wasn't inspired to ride his bike there or back, especially not if he made any purchases. So, he'd boarded at a station close to his house, and he'd kicked back to enjoy the ride. A woman had sat by him and spoken to him of her daughter, who was in town for the holiday, and he'd been amused and pleased by the company. She'd had to leave, though, and he'd found himself alone again. That didn't bother Gray overly much, as he was more than content to flip through the songs on his iPod, but he was shortly aware of someone else taking the vacant seat next to him.
He glanced over, a smile on his face out of habit, when he realized the girl was familiar. He blinked, puzzling where he'd known her, when it hit him - Barren Pines. The thought still made his stomach twist, and his smile faltered a bit. But only for a moment.
Yanking an ear bud out, he paused his music, expression pleasant once more. "Hello."
He wasn't sure if she remembered him or not, considering... he really wasn't sure about anything when it came to Barren Pines. So, he offered his hand, adding, "Grayson Graves."

Grayson Graves?
The girl glanced up to face the boy next to her and seemed to look him over carefully, as if trying to piece together the name with the face. The dark haired girl had always been good with names and faces, and she even remembered most of the people from Barren Pines. She took his hand without question, placing her hands delicately in his. Her handshake was way too gentle, leaving the person on the receiving end wondering if she had even touched their hand to begin with. Her indigo eyes seemed to wander his features and happened to stop at the boy's dark locks. With her free hand, she gently reached up and touched the longer lock that he always kept tied up to the side of his head.
Hesitantly, she took her hand back before speaking again in her small voice. "Grayson, what happened to the blonde in your hair?" Maybe her memory wasn't as good as she thought, but she could have sworn that this boy's hair had been lighter towards the tips.
Pushing this thought aside, she then somewhat mimicked the boy's introduction with her own quieter one. "Yvette Weaver." A pause. "H-how have you been?" She offered a gentle smile in the place of handshake, since it would have been a bit redundant. Even with all the manners she had been setting forward, something about the way she sat in the seat showed she was vaguely uncomfortable. It was most likely the memory of Barren Pines, but there was no dead-set answer just sitting there for everyone else to interpret.

So Yvette did remember him. He wondered what all she remembered, if she knew about the Zodiac and the barrier - but he didn't ask. It wasn't the time, and honestly, it was probably too soon. He was sure most of them would just want to get on with their lives, go back to being whoever they were before Barren Pines. He knew he wanted to, just not in the way he'd originally thought; he wanted to go back to being Grayson with his family, Leo with his second family.
He imagined Yvette felt the same way. So, after they shook hands, he settled his back into his lap, sent her a friendly smile. Truth be told, the only thing he really remembered about her was that she'd been cooking hot dogs, once, when he'd been hungry. He'd had to go off in search of other food that day, actually.
"It's good to see you doing well. I wasn't sure you would remember me," he said honestly. Then, because he got the feeling neither wanted to talk about Barren Pines, he asked, "Where are you headed today?"

Both of her hands were on her lap, playing with one of those older-model cellphones. It was going to take some time getting used to carrying it around, though maybe if she made herself a purse, it would be less of a chore. Despite having just thought this idea up just now, she waited until later to think it over.
"Well, my Mommy always said I had a good memory for names to faces." This was a fact. Part of it probably had to do with the shy girl's desire to make friends. She tried her hardest to remember people she met, even just once, regardless of how many people forgot her due to how forgettable she was. The dark haired girl never stood out unless she was wearing a really bizarre outfit that day.
Keeping her small smile on her lips, she answered his question. "I'm heading to the mall to look for some things for my room. My room just feels a bit off, since my parents left it the exact way I left it before... well..." Her voice hushed, still not wanting to bring up a particular incident they had both suffered. In an attempt to change the subject, she mentioned "I figure I should do something while I wait for Meadowview to get back into session. My uniform hasn't even come in yet!" It was a public school, and her Daddy did not like this idea. He wanted her to go to Crystal, but Yvette did not have the money, nor did she quite meet their expectations for a scholarship. Daddy might have eased up a bit if she was in a "safe" school, unlike that Meadowview High School.
She couldn't help but sigh slightly as she recalled all the grief her father would be giving her in the near future when school was back in session.

Grayson could sympathize with wanting to rearrange her room. After all, he had to change a few things around himself, though that was mostly due to the fact that Tristan had laid absolute waste to half of his things in the aftermath of his death. He hadn't done much with it yet, but he supposed once he got around to it, he'd have to do some redecorating. Certainly he would have to go shopping, as most of his clothes had been donated to various charities, his things boxed away and put in storage, his room turned into a second guest bedroom.
How weird that had been. It had been the exact same place, just... so impersonal. He almost wished he'd been able to walk home and find it exactly how it had been left. That would be less startling and unsettling, he thought.
At the mention of her school, he brightened. Not because the thought of school made him happy - far from it - but because he now knew someone else going to Meadowview. "I'm going there too. Meadowview."
He wasn't thrilled, but at least he was in his senior year. After that, he could either go to a university, find a nice job, or... something.
There was also the whole Leo thing, but he wasn't sure where that factored into his future.
"What grade are you going into?"

Her features seemed to lighten up a bit at the mention of the boy's selected school. "Oh, that's great!" she nearly chirped like a songbird. She clapped her hands together, while letting her relatively old cellphone sit on her lap. "At least I will know a couple people! Oh, and we are in the same grade as well! I will be a senior!"
This might have come across as a surprise, based off of how young Yvette looked in comparison to other students. She could not help it if she was shorter than both her Mommy and Daddy. People who didn't know her thought she still needed a growth spurt, despite the fact she has stopped growing years ago. Her way of carrying herself also didn't help, with how uncertain she seemed to be with the simplest of tasks. She never came across as an experienced Senior, but frequently got mistaken for a new Freshman.
"I just recently turned 18!" she added quietly, as if trying to convince Grayson that she was indeed telling the truth. Her hands returned to her lap and once again held onto her new phone, as if making certain it didn't accidentally get lost.

Yvette looked young, but he believed that she was a senior. Why not? He didn't have any reason to doubt her word, and anyway, he wasn't a suspicious person by nature. It was nice to know that someone familiar would be going to Meadowview, even if he didn't actually know her that well. It wasn't a complete pain for them to speak to one another, so who knew? They might even become friends.
It was worth a shot, anyway.
"Cool." He smiled again, and the bus hit a bump. "Happy belated birthday, then."
Grayson's next birthday wasn't for a while, but he tended to not make a big deal out of it. It was just another day of the week as far as he was concerned, and while it had been nice as a child to get presents and cake, it seemed a little much now that he was technically an adult. His parents would probably still get him one little something, but nothing like the past, and he was sure they'd have a nice dinner or something.
After a moment, he asked, "Are you looking forward to school?"

As the bus hit a rather sudden bump, the girl couldn't help but let out a squeak. Her phone had managed to fall off her lap and clatter onto the floor. "Oh no!" she exclaimed before scrambling to snag her newest possession back into her hands. Of course, the bus then had to hit a somewhat sharp turn, causing the phone to literally slide towards Grayson's side of the seat.
"Oh, um... thanks!" she offered in a partially distracted tone, her eyes literally stuck on her phone. She could imagine how upset Daddy would get if she lost it so quickly just because of a bumpy ride on the bus. Her face was turning bright red at the thought of it.
"Uh... uhmmm..." she shyly squeaked out, eyes parting from her phone for a moment to look to the boy next to her. She wasn't exactly about to reach over his lap to try and get her property. She had to do the next best thing. "Grayson, would you mind...?" She didn't even finish the question, but instead pointed to her phone that was now under his seat. It definitely was a clunker of a cell phone, and an old one to boot! She waited patiently, hoping he'd quickly assist her before her stop came up.

Grayson hadn't even realized that Yvette had dropped her phone, so when she asked him to help, he looked briefly confused. He lifted his feet, looking down, and saw the corner of a cell phone, and suddenly it made a lot of sense. Smiling, he said, "Sure thing, just second."
There were certain benefits to being six feet tall. Grayson had long arms to match his long body, but that didn't mean it wasn't still a little awkward as he tried to lean over and reach under the seat. The angle was a little wrong, and he frowned, catching his tongue between his teeth as he swiped his hand around. His fingertips bumped against something -- probably gum, ew -- and he squinted a little.
The look probably wasn't particularly intelligent, but his expression cleared quickly when he grasped the phone and pulled it out, holding it up triumphantly.
"Here you go." He passed it over, pleased.

Her eyes watched the whole ordeal, and in all honesty, it only made her feel even more embarrassed. He didn't look very happy as he was reaching under the seat, but it was probably her mind making things look worse than they actually were once again. She took up her phone in her hands and offered an overly apologetic "S-sorry about that..." Yvette would have probably added a "Thank you" in there as well, but once again she was mentally fussing over how much she messed up again.
Despite all the noise on the bus, there was an awkward silence between the two, though most of it was the girl's fault. More than likely, it would all clear itself up if some other subject was brought up. It wasn't Yvette's fault that she was so tightly wound. Really.

"Don't worry about it," Grayson said breezily, unaware of the girl's apparent internal turmoil. As far as he was concerned, he'd rescued the phone and everything was all right. Sure, the angle had been a little weird, but in the end, it had been no trouble, and he didn't think about it past that.
He settled his hands on his knees again, began to tap out a rhythm. "Well, I think my stop is coming up soon. I'm getting kind of hungry, though," he added, looking thoughtful.
Maybe he'd find a little cafe or something to duck into before he went to the mall.

"Oh!" she squeaked out. "That's my exit too!" It was a fact. For a moment, Yvette allow one of her hands to fiddle idly with the beads connected to her headband, before she made a sudden realization.
She had made it sound as if she expected to be in the boy's company when they got off the bus. It was implied ever so vaguely with her timing, but it truly had not bee her intent! Her face quickly turned a few shades redder.
Not wanting to stay stuck in such a mode of self-imposed embarrassment, she quickly tried to pull out some sort of question. Any sort of question in reality.
"S-so, where were you going? I forgot to ask earlier." Her fingers tugged delicately at the string of beads by her ears, trying to find some sort of way to get that nervous energy of hers out.

Grayson smiled, glad that they were getting off at the same exit. He hadn't set out to find company that day, but he wasn't against it if it came along. Things were more entertaining when you had someone to talk to, weren't they? He wouldn't go looking for someone to hang out with, but he wasn't going to pass up an opportunity when it presented itself. That would just be strange, and really antisocial of him.
"There's this music store in the mall. I forget what it's called... Just Music, or something like that." He lifted his shoulders in a careless shrug, still looking mightily serene. Aside from being hungry, he didn't have anything to complain about, really. "I want to see if there's anything good out. Oh, and I'm hungry, so I'll probably eat something in the food court."
He shifted, sitting more comfortably on the wallet in his back pocket, and asked, "What about you? I know you want stuff for your room, but are you going to any place in particular?"

Her head bobbed up an down for a nod as he explained his plans. She couldn't help but muse about the last time she had seen Grayson, he had also been hungry. Inwardly, she couldn't help but giggle, figuring he was probably a growing boy.
Her fingers were still playing with the beads dangling from her headband as she replied to his question. "I'm probably going to wander around and see if there is anything within my budget." It wasn't exactly like she had a lot of money to spend, so it would probably take a lot of searching to find anything for decorating her room and cheap. Of course, there was the saying that if you went to the mall, expect everything to cost an arm and a leg. Yvette hoped the sayings weren't true.
Though the opportunity presented itself so easily, the girl was not taking any initiative to ask Grayson if she could tag along. It wasn't her place, or at least, that was what she had convinced herself. The bus slowly rolled to a stop, signaling that they had arrived at their stop, safe and sound. Since the girl was on the aisle seat, she got up and quietly began to exit, clutching onto her belongings against her bosom as she walked. Surely she could say goodbye to Grayson when they were both off of the bus before they went on their ways.
