"Pretend to be a stuffed animal, Daichi!" Noctis hissed as he was escorted into a local restaurant. People had recommended this place highly and Noctis had been curious. So he simply decided to go. He just forgot one thing. Daichi. He couldn't leave the demon at home. Besides, Daichi should taste something other than Noctis's burnt meals and take out all the time. Or more like-- taste other varieties of tofu.

How does one explain that they're bringing their demon to eat with them? A dog or a cat might have bordered on acceptable reasons but not a demon. Noctis had uncharacteristically brought a bag, a shoulder bag at his side. Inside was Daichi, a hint of blue stuck out. Luckily, Noctis was headed to a more private corner of the restaurant, sighing with relief, his red and gold eye surveyed the area experimentally.

They could change the design and probably improve their restaurant with just this brand of technology-- wait, no thinking tonight. Not that sort of thinking anyways. He was here to enjoy the night. He put the bag closer to the wall as he sat down, opening the zipper as the waiter walked off to get some water.

"You stay in those shadows until I give the okay to come out, okay little guy?" He patted Daichi as Daichi sank into his shadow. Thank god he wasn't stuck with an imp like Duke. Duke might raise hell in a restaurant. Fortunately, Daichi wouldn't.

Iclair wondered just how long it was ago that he had started hearing rumors of a search for a white-haired male. It
wasn’t a large town exactly, but neither was it a small one. Not everyone had heard of him—or otherwise the
searcher would have had him pointed out in a few hours. In that case, the curiosity wouldn’t have been as
suffocating as it was now. He wanted to see who exactly was searching for him. Then again, the young exorcist
already had an idea of who was pursuing him.

Was it Ride? Or, was it Jack?

Since the catastrophe of a meeting with those two, Iclair had been waiting. Certainly, there were preparations to be
made in order to exorcise a demon or two, but Iclair didn’t want to exorcise either. At least, not yet…

Ducking into the restaurant, Iclair smelled the delicious aroma of food in the air and shut the dusty tome he was
reading. He grinned, waving easily at the now waitresses and waiters within the establishment. The priest knew
most of them and the cook by name now, easy when they were all familiar faces. His gaze flickered towards the
tables, searching for empty ones. Something about the room was bugging him, though…

Not that Iclair could pinpoint it with his mind distracted with what he’d been reading and what food he’d be
ordering. He pulled out a chair on a table near the walls, dropped himself into the seat and flipped a menu open.
Not too soon after, the exorcist was looking up as a shadow loomed.

“Hello Father, what can I get you today?”

Noctis didn't take too long in ordering his food and he was surprised it didnt seem to take too long in getting back to him. As the side order of tofu was laid upon the table and the waitress's polite exit to bring back more, Noctis could feel the imp wiggle at his side in timid delight.

/Tug.. Tug.. TUG.

"I get it, little guy, I get it."

With a sigh, he picked up the blue tear-dropped shaped demon by the top and laid him out on the table. If the waitress came back and saw it, Noctis could pass it off for a moving toy, he decided. A customer would likely fall for the same excuse as well. If they didn't believe him.. Well, if he played his cards right, he couldn't be kicked out of the restaurant. He brushed several stray black bangs behind his ear, watching in amused delight as the other dug into the side tofu.

“Hello Father, what can I get you today?”

Father? He glanced over at a nearby table with mild interest. What, they still had priests and churches? Noctis only saw the man's appearance from the back but something nagged at him. White hair.. white hair.. What was the description that pizza-man had told him? Noctis couldn't quite remember it at the moment, not with the delicious aromas teasing his hungry stomach. But was that the man that Jack had been looking for? Or just a coincidence? Hm.

Iclair felt the nagging feeling at the back of his neck rise, but he resisted the urge to look around curiously. It was
hard, considering now it was combined with a slight suspicion of someone staring at him. Then again, he’d been
stared at enough for the last couple of days that he could easily get used to it; the stare didn’t feel threatening,
anyway.

The exorcist welcomed food with a smile, deciding to ignore the strange feeling for moment. Food… it was
delicious. It could almost be a substitute for sex, the close second being the center of attention.

The flash of blue on his silverware made him curious though. His movements almost stilled abruptly, but he forced
it to a natural stop to stare at the distorted image of a wobbling blue blob. Strange, his mind went over the trickle of
possibilities. An animated doll, perhaps? Technology had certainly come very far, though not much in this town.

Iclair shot a glance towards the suspicious table in question and had to blink in surprise for a moment.

A teardrop… with a face… eating tofu…

The exorcist nearly choked on his food in an attempt not to laugh. He swallowed the water and let a soft murmur of
an exorcism spell flow from his lips like a song. It was a particular spell that was too low-level to exorcise any
demon, but Iclair found that it was fun enough to use to irritate them.

Noctis couldn't wait to eat. His growling stomach only growled further as a delicious plate, filled with steak and sauce, sat in front of him in the most tempting manner. Oh, that looked appetizing. Several other plates were laid down as Daichi sunk into the shadows, only to reappear again to wobble towards the tofu. As usual, the tofu.

Daichi bit Noctis's finger as he reached across his table for some food laid out, glancing at the teardrop with a vexed expression. One red and black eye landed menacingly on Daichi as the demon continued to bite his arm.

This was a strange occurrence-- Daichi had never bitten Noctis before. His usual expression of droopy eyes and a frowning mouth had changed to slightly slanted eyes and the same frowning mouth... A new emotion-- Well, Noctis might dare call it-- annoyed? Since when did the imp harbor such emotion? The imp rolled into the side, the last remains of the tofu filled both blue cheeks, the imp eating in a manner similar to a squirrel. It was a silly sight to say the least. But Daichi continued to roll around, as if irritated by some unknown cause.

Warily, Noctis looked around, the fork exiting his mouth, leaving a juicy steak piece behind. Some civilians.. His eyes met the priest's back with slight suspicion but logic pointed out that the priest had only fifty percent probability of behind behind the cause. The other fifty percent remained on the chance that Daichi was irritated from some other source but that was an unlikely probability Noctis debated taking after Jack's example and barging into the priest's meal. But he hated to spoil a meal with useless conversation or talking in general. As one could guess, Noctis wasn't the most social person, especially in moods of hunger or irritation. Perhaps he should ambush the priest after the meal?

Iclair smiled and stopped the spell, eyeing the reflection of the wobbling blue imp against the glass with
amusement. He picked at his food, trying to decide on a course of action. It would be too eye-catching to do any
high-leveled demon-related things in a restaurant, so Iclair would have to take it outside. The priest fingered the
text he was keeping thoughtfully, wondering if he’d have to use any of the named exorcisms there today. From
what he could tell, the demon was merely in its imp stage, hardly any trouble to deal with.

Currently, it was the human the imp was contracted to Iclair would have to watch out for.

The exorcist wiped his mouth, belatedly realizing he’d finished all the food in front of him without tasting a single
morsel. He grumbled mentally though maintained an outward smile, ordering a sundae from a passing waitress. In
any case, should he wait until the demon and demon contractor leave to follow? Or, should he leave ahead of time
and lay a trap?

Tough decisions, but it would be a fun game in the end, undoubtedly.

Opposite to the priest, Noctis had enjoyed his meal very much so. After finishing dessert, he promptly stood up, his hands in pockets to find his misplaced wallet at the moment. He walked off to pay the bill in front, temporarily leaving his bag -- and Daichi behind. After all, he would only be gone to pay, he didn't see the point in bringing either item or imp along.

Daichi peeked up on the table.

No tofu. No tofu here. No tofu there. Tofu.

The blue demon rolled off into the ground, wandering on the ground towards Iclair's table. He wobbled forward, sinking back into the shadows when someone stepped by and reappearing once they had safely gone out of his view. It was a long trek for the demon, crossing the distance between the two tables. It probably would have taken a human about a minute or two but for Daichi, it was quite the long endeavor.

"tofutofutofu. TOFU." One could hear the demon muttering if they tried really hard to listen. But to those with an ignorant ear would assume it was another simple conversation in the restaurant. Noctis's back was turned as he tried to grab the change that was buried so deep in his jeans.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 22, 2010 9:49 pm

The priest watched Noctis’ back for a moment before his gaze turned towards the direction of the man’s table.
Curiously, the imp was out of sight again… where had it gone? Demons could hide in shadows, Iclair knew, so the
strange teardrop of a demon could easily be anywhere… Or, it could very well be under his nose, ironically…

A wry smirk touched his lips as he caught sight of the imp half-rolling and half-wobbling closer and closer to his
table. The chant of ‘tofu’ was audible to the priest’s ears, like a childish mantra when pursuit of something. It
seemed the demon was doing the work for him by saving him the strangeness of walking over and grabbing it off
the contractor’s table. What oddness it would be for normal humans to see… Priests just didn’t steal toys from
people, did they?

Iclair chuckled to himself, pulling up a few bills and laying it against the table next to his plate. The restaurant
would forgive him if he paid this way, this once. He quickly scrawled a few words on to a piece of scrap paper, and
flicked it to the other’s table just as he casually bent down to pluck Daichi off from the ground and smiled at the
confused ‘tofu--?’ that spilled from the imp’s mouth.

It was almost innocent, really.

Once he left the restaurant behind, Iclair picked up the pace. He’d need to bind Daichi quickly…

Noctis walked back to the table, picking up his bag. It was surprisingly light. .. Hm. Surprisingly light? The dreaded sight that waited him was the emptiness. His hand patted in the small expanse of the bag calmly at first, panicking as he realized that his imp was. not. there.

Clearly, Daichi's fault.

By now, Noctis had already concluded that the batch of tofu he had ordered was not enough for the damned imp. Was he growing or something? It'd be nice if the imp had told him that he wanted more tofu. As he sternly lectured the imp in his mind, a piece of paper caught his eye, eying it suspiciously. What if it had poison on it.. poison that was applied through direct touch? He took a glove out of his bag, taking the time to put it on. He cautiously picked it up with narrowed eyes. He didn't care whether he drew attention or not, several customers glancing in his direction.

His eyes caught the words, church and demon. He didn't need to read the full message to catch sight of what it said. He scrambled to leave a tip at the table, running outside with an expression of anger and revenge.

Nobody took something from him and got away with it. Noctis's snobbish pride wouldn't allow such an event.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 02, 2010 3:22 pm

The church was empty on the particular weekday as dusk made the sun slide down from the sky. The lights warred
with the dark, bathing the building with a rather beautiful orange-purple glow. Iclair sat in a relaxed state; his legs
sprawled in front of him over the few steps up to the altar. His eyes were half-lidded, almost sleepy, while his
mouth was curved into its usual amused smile. He hadn’t hesitated to use the church as the meeting place, didn’t
care that it was possible to destroy property if the meeting became violent.

Iclair only knew that it was one of the advantages at the moment, as day became night.

Of course, his other advantage lay in the demon currently laying in captivity to his left. It was hard to imagine that
he had actually physically kidnapped a demon from its contractor; you’d think it’d be more difficult than bribing it a
plate of tofu in order to garner time to ready the spells and holy water. Iclair had also been lucky enough to forget
mention exactly which church for the demon’s contractor to find.

Ah well…

He was still waiting now.

It was the last church that Noctis had checked unfortunately. To his dismay. This had to be the church. Those were the thoughts running through his mind as he opened the church door. Every single other church had been locked. It had been safe to assume that those weren't the churches that were holding this mysterious kidnapper and Daichi. After all, would the kidnapper really have left the church locked if he wanted Noctis to follow? Therefore, this unlocked church had to be the one Noctis was looking for.

This was cutting into his experiment time. He was tired, aggravated and annoyed. His emotions were the opposite of the priest's emotions, the sleepy priest sitting in front of him as he entered the sunset-lit church.

"You were a zetta-pain to find. You know that?" He addressed the statement towards the priest in front of him, his expression was that of a distinctly annoyed person who ran around everywhere.

"Don't tell me you're that queer guy that Jack mentioned? White hair? Pretty face? But more to the point, was kidnapping Daichi really necessary?" He crossed his arms in front of his chest, staring at the white-hair man before with with a set of odd colored eyes.

Iclair hummed a song under his breath, watching the lights streaming in from the colored windows. His gaze
shifted towards the scientist as the man came bursting in. His mind perked immediately, smile widening as his
attention fully dropped upon Noctis. The man had taken him longer than he had thought; what had been the
chances that he would check this particular church last? “Welcome to St. Lorriane’s!” the priest welcomed
cheerfully, golden-hued eyes regarding Noctis in faint curiosity. He stretched for a moment before pushing himself
off the steps and stood, long limbs adjusting to the new position in order to be comfortable. Taking a few steps
forward, he stopped just before the long aisle between the pews.

“Zetta? I didn’t know the generation of today used that word.” His lips twitched into a small smirk before the next
words tumbled from his mouth. In all honestly, he found the phrase strangely hilarious. It seemed… so bizarre. “So
sorry, I thought you would take a bit less time in finding the church, but I guess it was too difficult since I had
forgotten to put down the name.” The priest’s tone sounded anything but apologetic, but he gestured lightly
towards a spellbound Daichi behind him as if presenting something of a display. Iclair had taken almost an
amazingly short time to paint the seals with diluted holy water and align the candles on the floor just barely in front
of the altar. He could be mildly proud for it. As lazy as he’d been in that priest school, Iclair could work with
anything he put his mind to, especially since he had an agenda to follow.

“I left your ‘friend’ there,” Iclair continued, still smiling. He closed his eyes for a moment and chuckled softly. “He
has an amazing interest in tofu, you know. I had to pay for about 3 boxes of it!” Pausing, as Noctis continued,
Iclair listened with half an ear. You know, Jack?” The priest blinked at Noctis before the smile returned. He laughed
this time, allowing his mouth to twist into a delighted, but devious grin. “Yes, I imagine I’m the one he’s looking for.
I’m pleased to hear that he thinks I’m pretty… Or, is it you who does? You don’t need to be shy.” <3

“Then again, I’m not exactly surprised you know him. In fact…” Iclair murmured, resting a hand on a hip. “It’s safe
to say I’m rather glad that you do. It saves me so much trouble.”

“You don’t really need to know my name, though I can guess that you already do. Part of it anyway…” He stepped
towards Noctis easily, almost fully at ease with approaching the man. “And, I didn’t necessarily kidnap your friend.
Daichi, is it? He came towards me and I saw an opportunity as I require… your assistance.”

One could probably see the tick marks of annoyance building up within the red and gold eyed bartender, hands clenching in a fist. Noctis's patience was short. Extremely short, by anyone's standards.

At the very least, the man had paid for Daichi's dinner. Noctis hoped that those boxes were expensive.
Sheesh, give a stranger the benefit of doubt and get proven wrong.

"Oh, is that an inflated ego that I hear talking?" He raised a hand in a mock gesture, as if he hadn't heard the other very clearly. Sheesh, weren't priests supposed to be on the modest and demure side? Because this priest before him definitely did not fit into either category. Most of Iclair's words were processed and sent out the other ear, seeming uninterested as the other spoke. Until the end that is. It seemed to have caught his attention, albeit, not a good way.

He narrowed his eyes at the mention of "assistance," his frown deepening across his face. He lifted his hand as "Iclair" walked towards him. He held out all five fingers, as if counting down. His next words were icy cold, his head lifted to look down at Iclair in a condescending manner, a dark shadow crossing his face. He peeled off his glasses, tucking them in his pocket. Every demon contractor seemed to hold a little bit of darkness in them and Noctis was no exception. The look on his face with the crackling tension plainly told the priest, Noctis wanted to murder him. In a slow and torturous manner, coupled with experimentation.

"See this hand? It's a bouquet of F you's. One finger for every church I checked. What makes you think I'm going to grant any assistance to you?" Adding a side note, the mention of Jack seemed to make Noctis more irate than before, shaking his head. ".. And for your information, Jack is no acquaintance of mines. He's an eyesore. Just like you, I suppose, although you're prettier than he is. You're both a yotta pain to deal with though."

It seemed that Iclair had been upped up about three scientific notations on Noctis's scale of nuisances.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 12:29 am

Iclair laughed lightly at the scientist’s words, enjoying the annoyance and anger that lay plainly with each spoken
syllable. It wasn’t that he was egotistical, but Iclair was far from modest either. He made no more move towards
the man, but instead waited for Noctis. “I’m just stating facts, sir,” the priest murmured with a slight tilt of his head.
The emanating ‘danger’ waves that rolled down Noctis were far from little, but it wasn’t intimidating to Iclair. He had
seen dozens of other contractors and their, faced them all, and managed to escape… mostly unscathed.

“You asking why you should give your assistance?” His careless attitude would have gotten him killed a dozen
times over, except if he wasn’t really good. Iclair kept his tone curious, almost genuine if the situation wasn’t what it
was. The priest’s features had even schooled itself into innocent surprise to match. He gestured up at Daichi a
moment later, showing off the ritual-like boundaries that kept the demon helpless and at bay.

“You care about your little demon, don’t you? I have him bound right there.” The exorcist smiled, resting his hands
gently on his hips and right above his daggers. “You must if you spent so much time searching for him. Whatever
he promised you must have been important to you, as most terms would be if you sold your soul for its sake.
Something you don’t have the power or ability to do yourself.”

Grinning, Iclair turned his back to Noctis and flounced up to the altar, as though trusting Noctis not to injure him.
After all, he seemed like a smart fellow who would think before acting. Who knew what would happen to Daichi if
he killed Iclair without a thought?

“It’s not that hard. I don’t require you to do much.”

"You must if you spent so much time searching for him. Whatever he promised you must have been important to you, as most terms would be if you sold your soul for its sake.

Something you don’t have the power or ability to do yourself.” "

The man had hit it on the nail. How Noctis hated perceptive people that were on the same level as him. He slowly withdrew the needles that was about to appear from his pocket grudgingly. He could see Daichi wibbling up at the altar, shrinking back, sensing that it had done something wrong. And oh, Daichi did. Noctis wanted to strangle the imp for getting him into this situation. Red and yellow eyes narrowed, promising some sort of punishment for the imp.

His words were exaggerated and dry as he said it, a cool expression schooling the anger on his face. Although it did little to help since it radiated in waves. "What does the high and mighty priest want with me? After all, I'm just a lowly contractor who has only just recently gotten his contract. Hell, unless you're looking for inventing, I don't know what I can do for you."

And now that he had a better look at those rituals that kept Daichi trapped, Noctis wanted to investigate those more closely. Perhaps they would have something related to the art of demons and their nature--- A experiment for another time, taking in the sight and put it in the back of his mind for later analysis. Oh, was that holy water? (Noctis never understood how they made water holy because scientifically, that didnt make sense.)
