{As Told by Sandie}

Perhaps the beach home was a little...different from most, but it was mine. That phrase still gives my heart a little jump when I think about it.

I remember when I first came up on the island; I didn't really think much of it at first. It's a tiny thing, right off the coast of the Isle de Gambino, and it looks much like every other island around the cost until you notice it's peculiar shape. It much resembles a crecent moon, curled around a small, freshwater lagoon before it turns into the sun. I was later informed that these are the Isle de Soler and Lunis Isle.

My home.

The beaches are golden, untouched by hotels and golf courses that many beaches have. The waves crashed in and I let them playfully chase me inland until I reached a few beach grasses that tickled my feet. That was when I saw the roots of the tree. I looked up to see how tall it was.

And looked up.

And looked up.

And looked up.

The tree--I was unsure what kind--was incredibly tall. Too tall for me to see the highest branches. But the most peculiar thing about it was that, nestled in it's brances was an octagon shaped house. I assumed that it was shaped like that to work around the tree, rather than saw of any of its brances, for through the middle of the house, the tree continued to grow.

As I continued forward, I found the first of many stairs--along the side of the tree was a set of spiral stairs that led up to the top. Do I dare? I asked myself.

I dared.

I began the treck shyly, taking a step and then looking around to see if anyone would tell me not to. But there was no one, and soon excitement had me in its firm grip and I was bounding up two an three stairs at a time with enthusiasm that I hadn't felt in a long time.

Finally, they stopped at a well made wooden deck. The rails weren't very high--high enough, it seemed, to stop children from leaning too far over the edge. Were there children here? I wondered. I would soon find out, because when I walked around to the side facing the ocean, there was a door, loosely covered with a flap of sturdy cloth. Sneaking inside, I saw an image that still warms my heart.

All around a small table, the family was gathered. People and animals of all shapes and sizes settling down to eat, and though it was neither serene nor quiet, I could tell that everyone there was truely happy. At the head of the table was a woman who I assumed was the head of the hosuehold. She said the least, but watched the most, keeping an eye on all of her children.

Sitting down, I guessed she was about 5'4", and she wore blond hair short, cut just above her shoulder. She was dressed in what would seem to be traditional island ware, with a ruffly white top and a yellow sarong bedecked with flowers. She seemed...rather unearthly. Love beamed out all around her, like an aura, touching those dearest to her.

After a moment of awed watching, she turned her jade green eyes at me, smiling warmly.

"Welcome, Sandie," was all she said. But she opened her arms, gesturing for me to come to the table, to join their family.

I was home.

The Family
(My appologies for not having pictures)
((More appologies because I'm too lazy to color code much))
(((I'll try and put them in order of how often they'll be present)))

Jayde: Technically, Jayde (me!) is the head of household. She lived there first, slowly but surely inviting countless people and pets of all kinds to live with her. She's fairly quiet and softspoken, and has a very motherly instinct towards the people/pets around her. She came to the island one year ago, when she was 16, because she had amnesia and had no where else to go, so she has no memories other than those she has made here.

Sandie: A yellow dream with wavy purple stripes on her back leg. Jayde saw her in the store looking generally pitiful but couldn't afford to buy her, so her friend Kylin brought her home to the treehouse. Because of how much time she spent in the shop, waiting to be adopted, she has problems with her self-esteem. She dearly loves Jayde and all of the random creatures that live at the treehouse. She can speak, but she rarely does, and often thinks for days on what she is going to say. When she does speak, it is very quiet and timid.

Lyra: Lyra is the oldest of her pets, and looks similar to an anthromorphic cat with dragons wings. He followed her home one day from the shop that she now co-owns, and hasn't left since (presumably because he has everything he wants here without having to work for it). He's very sarcastic, and often comes across as cold, but deep down, he cares deeply for everyone at the tree house, especially the young ones.

Damen: A bounty hunder that wandered onto the island. He left breifly, but returned because of a mishap in Durhem. Similar to Lyra, though neither of them would ever admit it. However, he is friendlier, and less like...well, a lazy cat. He secretly looks at Jayde with something akin to hero worship, so he goes out of his way to give her troube. Go figure.

Blank: Jayde found him in a box outside of a store on the Isle de Gambino and, of course, couldn't just leave him there. (To make his description pretty short and sweet, he's a cosplay of Blank from final fantasy nine.) He hasn't spoken...yet, but his actions are very brotherly towards the other kittens Jayde found. (Zinnia, tye-die, Lucien, demonic, Tenshi, angel, and Mahiru, panda.) He follows Lyra around and looks at him like a father figure.

Corli: A demon boy that Lyra rescued from a feral Kyn who used to roam the islands. Though origionally he didn't speak english, he has slowly picked up the language. His appearance is that of an eight year old boy, and he acts much like it also, though no one knows his true age.

Sabrina: Sabrina is a Moral, and Corli found her in a swamp on the island that has never again been located. She's the size of a very large housecat, and the apperance of a lioness with wings and the hind feet of a horse (like a grypphin I suppose). Since Corli was the one to bring her home, she follows him around like a puppy, always looking out for him. When she does speak, she's incredibly timid and soft spoken.

Davexander: Usually referred to as Dav, this 15 foot brown dragon is the first pet she owned, though he is not the oldest. Dav is very protective over his family, and acts very much like a huge dog; loving, loyal, and incredibly sweet.

Angua: A wolf that Corli managed to find on the island. She was abandoned by her pack for unknown reasons--she's the only inhabitant of the bungaow who doesn't speak. She dissapears sometimes for days at a time, but always returns. She is viciously protective of Corli and Jayde.

{As told by Jayde}

She was a shy little thing, and it wasn't hard to understand why. She'd spent months in the window of that shop, and no matter how nice the shop was, being passed over for adoption time after time was bound to have an effect on a young dream like Sandy.

Granted, she was in her adult form now, that was certain. But she always followed around in someones footsteps, even Lyra's from time to time, much to his irritation. And I noticed that whenever she would speak, she looked up to the person she was addressing so quietly for...something. Perhaps approval.

I hoped that if she met some dreams instead of the likely insane critters that ran around here, that might help with her self confidence, and maybe she'd feel more secure talking to someone like her.

I felt a soft touch on my leg and looked down to see Sandy, one paw placed gently no my calf.

"Hey, sweetheart," I said with a smile.

"Good morning, Miss Jayde," she replied softly. Owlish eyes looked up at me, waiting, watching to see what my response would be.

"You know," I said thoughtfully, leaning down to give her a scratch behind the ears, "I think maybe we should go and meet some of the other dreams that live around here." For a moment those huge eyes managed to get a little wider, and she seemed to shrink a few inches.

"Oh, i...if you think so, Miss Jayde."

I could tell she was thrilled with the idea. sweatdrop

{As Told by Jayde}

I returned to the treehouse excited about having company over for dinner. We'd never had compnay over before!

...Granted, there was probably a reason for that, but I didn't let myself dwell on it.

With Sandy close on my heels, I bounded up the stairs and burst through the door with a smile, and was greeted with incredulous looks.

"Are you drunk?" That astute statement came from Lyra, who was lounging in the pile of cushions that served as a couch, and as his bed when he 1) didn't feel like sharing with Corli or 2) felt like making Damen sleep on the floor. Perhaps the latter was why he so often slept in the living room, but I wouldn't let him do it every night.

But I digress.

"No," I replied, rolling my eyes, "I am not drunk. I am, however, excited!" In response to my enthusiasm, the great kath sighed heavily and leaned back, waiting for me to tell him all about my ideas. I knew he'd be thrilled. Blank poked his head out from behind one of the pillows and yawned at me. This might be easier than I expected.

"We're having company for dinner!"

Directly behind Lyra and our makeshift living room was, actually, the trunk of the tree, again lined with a spiral staircase to get to the upper rooms. Behind it was the kitchen, and that's where Damen emerged from. He looked just as enthusiastic as his other housemates.

"I hope it's not a lawyer," he said sarcastically, wiping his hands on a dishtowel. "They always leave a funny taste in my mouth." From behind me I could here a soft giggling, like the chiming of little bell, which would have ordinarily given me great pleasure had she not been laughing at the concept of literally having someone for dinner.

I glared at Damen.

"We're not having someone for dinner, we're having someone over to eat dinner. Like normal people do?"

"Well, why are you still trying to pretend?"

"Gah!" I threw my hands up in the air and marched up the stairs to my bedroom. "It's useless! You guys just do whatever now, but come tomorrow night, you'd better be out of my way and at least trying to be generally helpful or I shall KEEL JOO!" Behind me, the curtains swayed shut. A lot less dramatic than slamming a door, but it was the best I could manage.

Gah.

{As Told by a Boring Narrator Describing the House}
{Ok, so the outside apperance of the house was already described in the first post, so this is what the inside looks like}

When you first open the curtains to reveal the inside of the house, it is amazing how big it is on the inside. About ten feet from floor to ceiling, it's a full story high, but most of it is empty space.

On the ceilings are lazily turning fans that keep the temperature inside down dispite the heat of the island. Along the walls aren't much other than a great deal of windows--on on each side of the octagonal room, letting in a lot of light and the soft sounds of the ocean crashing on the sand.

almost directly in front of the door is a large pile of pillows that serves as a living room/entertaining area. Along the walls to the left and right are small bamboo book cases.

If you walk past the pillows and around the pillar is the kitchen, separated from the rest of the room by islands that food can be set on. It's a modest kitchen, with little more than a stove, an oven, and a refrigorator, although it serves its purpouse well enough since a great deal of the inhabitants of the hosue hunt for their meals.

Continuing around the trunk of the tree is what serves as the dining room. And by that I mean a table and four chairs. Jayde always says that she's going to get something bigger, but no one really eats at the table anyway, so she keeps putting it off.

You could continue to talk around the house, but that would just lead you back around to the doorway, and I'm sure no one wants to read this whole thing again.

{might possibly be traded for something better written later}

{As Told by Damen}

"You know, you were awefully mean to Miss Jayde, don't you think?" I couldn't believe that the soft voice at my feet had actually contradicted me and my actions. Sandy was usually such a passivist!

...Somehow, that made it even worse.

"We always just tease her, Sandy," I said in self defense, "It's not that we're being really mean to her." She looked at me with those big, owlish eyes, and I felt guilt beginning to rise in me like a bad case of heartburn.

"That's what it sounds like to me." Apparently after she'd said that, it was the last of her backbone for the night, for she rushed out of the kitchen and up the stairs to go and sleep with Jayde. Luckily or unluckily for me, this conversation would probably not be mentioned to the 'head of household.'

I sighed heavily and went to go lay down on the pile of cusions that served as my bed. For once, Lyra was upstairs, presumably sharing a bed with Corli, instead of in my almost-designated sleeping area.

Damnit.

Why did she have to make me feel so guilty?

As I lay down and stretched out, I told myself that it was nothing new, that it was just the same old teasing Jayde always got.

Somehow, that didn't help much.

Finally, I drifted off to sleep.

{As Told by Jayde}

I woke to the smell of cooking throughout the house. I wasn't quite sure what it was that was being cooked, but the aromas were mouth-watering. Sandy, who was sleeping beside me, was sleeping to deeply to do much more than twich her nose and the inviting scents that had filled the air.

Slowly I rose (for that was how I did anything first thing in the morning) and stretched, looking out the window. To my disbelief, I had slept most of the morning away. As I went to get dressed, I figured this phenomenon was because I spent a good deal of time last night, laying and staring at the hypnotically swirling fans, thinking about the way we all treated each other here.

Maybe it would be best for us to live in different houses, as Kotatsu-chan and her family do. It seemed like all we ever were was mean to each other any more. Except for Dav, that is. Somehow it didnt seem possible for him to be really mean to anyone.

Making my way down the stairs, I not only cound smell the cooking going on, but I could hear it as well. The familliar sounds of pots and pans, as well as the simmering of food being prepared. When I peeked around the corner, Lyra and Damen were shoulder to shoulder in the small kitchen, griping at each other.

But cooking.

"Look you stupid cat," Damen said, carrying a hot pot over to the sink, "If you step on my feet one more time..."

"I would never step on your feet," the kath said with all the dignity he could muster. "Unless you've forgotten, as is the case so often, I am an elder kathinian. I do not...step on peoples feet. That is most certinaly your doing something stupid, surprise surprise."

They griped for a moment more before looking up at me with tears brimming at the corners of my eyes.

"Damnit, bounty hunter," Lyra hissed, "I thought you said this would make her feel better? She's crying again."

"It's a good thing, moron. Maybe your relationship with your girlfriend would be going better if you learned a little about the feminine gender."

"Oh, you guys are cooking dinner for tonight?" There was lasagna already done, but sitting in the oven to remain warm, as well as freshly made rolls and all sorts of vegitables still on the stove. I could tell that Lyra had tossed the salad because most of the leaves of lettuce were mangled, but that didnt' matter to me.

"Well, S--" The kath started to speak but was elbowed roughly. "Eh, we thoguht we'd been a little to hard on you last night, since you were so excited and everything..." He glared at Damen, who only smiled.

"Yeah. That and we were afraid your cooking was going to scare off the guests."

"I suppose," I said, one eyebrow raising, "that just because you guys cooked all this stuff that you can go back to insulting me now."

For a moment, they exchanged glances before looking back at me and speaking at the same time.

"Yes."

They were right, but I couldn't tell them that. Instead, I made them set the table and fetch some extra chairs from the storage house a little farther down the beach.

Maybe this hadn't been such a bad idea after all.

Maladict watched Kotatsu-chan walk on the warm sand of the island, until she reached a huge tree. Looking at it confusedly, she said "But where's the house?" He groaned inwardly. No one ever seemed to think of looking up. "In the tree, dingdong!" he called. Kotatsu looked up and gave a cry of surprise as Maladict rolled his eyes. Kotatsu was grinning and found the stairs to the treehouse, taking them two at a time. She was such a child sometimes... He, however, walked up the stairs quite dignifiedly and upon reaching the top, he found Kotatsu already Yoo-hooing and Hallooing. He sat and waited.
otatsu loved cold weather, and her house was situated in a freezing locale as it was. But the island was a nice change indeed from her firgid climate. Walking around the island, she finally came across a huge tree, right where their hostess's house should have been. She voiced her concern of locating the house, and Mal-kun pointed it out. My goodness, it was a treehouse! Her sense of fun was enflamed, and she ran up the stairs to the house. She felt just like a kid again, and getting to the top, commenced yelling greetings. Maladict came up more slowly, however, and with a scornful look, he sat and waited.

"Hrelllcome." The great rumble, like so many other things today, came from above there heads, where a great brown dragon sat perched on the roof of the treehouse. Great claws the size of a human hand wrapped around the edge, and what could loosely be called a smile played on his face--loosely, because there are few smiles that were lined with quite that many razor sharp teeth.

But his doe brown eyes, so wide and friendly, belayed his ferocious apperance.

Jayde heard Kotatsu-chan calling before she heard the great rumble that was Davexanders welcome, and she rushed to the door. Part of it was out of excitement for having company.

The other part was so that they wouldn't be quite as startled to have a greeting from a fifteen foot kyn. A grin already lighting her features, she parted the forest-green curtains and waved at her guests.

"Welcome!" she echoed. "Don't mind Dav, he's as gentle as a kitten. Well," Jayde stopped a moment to think about it, "maybe a large dog."

"What the hell kind of dogs were there where you grew up, woman?" came a cry from inside. It was very inconspicuous, but Jayde's eye twitched, and a look of, I'm going to kill that bounty hunter... crossed her face. Sandy, oblivious to what was going on above her, smiled shyly up at Kotatsu and Maladict.

"I'm so glad you could make it," she said softly. "Please, come in, and make yourselves at home."

((Just a quick note...I had my Dream saved on another computer, so its been a while since I've seen her picture...i.e. I forgot how to properly spell her name and I don't feel like going back and changing all of the 'Sandy' to 'Sandie'...but from how on that's how her name is spelled. sweatdrop ))

Maladict jumped when he saw the Kyn. He knew not to judge a book by its cover. But Dav had one big cover. He tried not to stare as he went in, and noticed Kotatsu thought this 'Dav' was perfectly normal. Well good for her, she was the one who lived with a cat that resembled a bus. He was brought back to his senses by Sandie welcoming him, and he greeted her with a "Hello" and a warm smile. He entered the home and immediatley thought it was very nice. For instance, you did not have to have mittens and a scarf on to take a nap like at Kotatsu's house. "This is a very nice place you have." he said aloud. there was family everywhere, too. he saw many pets, and remembering he had a family such as this somewhere, gave him a small pang of guilt. however, he flicked his ear and it passed.
The first thing Kotatsu saw was the dragon. She waved wildly to him, quite at home with all large, pointy, and fierce creatures. After all, he had nice eyes. Eyes were supposedly the window to one's soul, or perhaps one's brain cavity. But just then, Jayde came through the door, and there were welcomes exchanged, assurances that Dav the dragon was gentle, sharp sarcasm made upon the subject of Dav's gentleness exchanged, and Kotatsu presented the remains of her sunflower patch, tied with a ribbon, to her hostess. She had survived her first part of her first official dinner party and enjoyed it. Smiling and waving at Sandie, she came into the house.

Jayde smiled at Maladicts compliment.

"Thank you. Believe it or not, Damen and I were really the ones to build this place. Cool, huh?" At that point, a tall man with waist length blond hair strolled out from the kitchen area, tossed salad in hand.

"Don't tell them that," he said, rolling his eyes as he set it down in the middle of the circular tabe. "They probably wont' even stay for dessert for fear of their lives." A wicked grin split his handsome features and he nodded his welcome to Kotatsu-chan and Maladict.

"Good evening," he added for formalities.

Going back to ignoring him, Jayde said hello to Kotatsu and accepted the sunflowers with a beaming smile.

"I love sunflowers!" she said, breathing in their scent. "We dont' get very many of them on the island." She rushed off to put them in a vase before returning to seat everyone at the table.

Sandie, as always, was right on her heels as she did this, but instead of following her aroud as she usually did, she looked at Maladict and then up at Kotatsu-chan.

"Please follow me," she said before doing her best to help them be seated at the table. Company, she kept thinking. Secretly, she was just as excited as Jayde. When Damen passed, her wide eyes and soft request brought forth rolled eyes, but he did as she asked and pulled the chair out for both Kotatsu and Jayde.

Once Kotatsu, Maladict, Sandie, Jayde and Damen were seated, a small boy of about eight or nine rushed down the stairs, his teal hair fowing behind him. For a moment, he spoke rapidly, and Jayde only blinked at him, not quite able to catch what he was saying--though he had been living with them for several months now, she still wasn't quite fluent in his...native language, if that was what you wished to call it.

"Greet our guests and have a seat at the table please, sweetheart," she finally said with a smile. Corli bowed low to Kotatsu and Maladict before having a seat, ready as all young boys are to start the meal.

Maladict looked at the house. "A wonderful architectural accomplishment. I could show you the house Kotatsu tried to-" A small kick from Kotatsu told him that was still a sore subject with her. "Anyway, good evening to you, too, Damen." He followed Sandy to the table. She was very polite, he thought quietly. What a nice dream. Sitting at the table, he then heard, and a second later, saw a young boy rush down the stairs. The most striking thing about him at the moment was his teal hair, but then again, Maladict supposed he shouldn't be talking. He had teal streaks in his fur. When he bowed to Kotatsu and Maladict, Maladict said "Hello." He looked at Kotatsu, and found her trying to curtsy while sitting down. His face muscles twitched as he tried not to laugh. This was going to be an interesting dinner.

Damen, listening to Maladict talk, chuckled, not saying anything about Jayde's architectural skills for the fear that something quite similar would happen when he said it, also. Instead, he kept his mouth firmly closed and served the salad, the first course.

"What would everyone like to drink?" Jayde asked, keeping a close eye on Damen. He wanted to say something so bad he could taste it, and that concerned her.

"Just water will be fine," was all he said, however, finishing with the salad and placing the various dressings in the center of the table. Corli also wanted water.

"Milk, please," Sandy said quietly. "And, where is Lyra? He was the one that made the salad."

"You don't make a salad--" Damen started to protest, settling down. From the kitchen, the hostess interrupted him.

"He made the salad," she said pointedly, "and we appreciate it. But he's probably on the roof, keeping all the kittens out of our hair and keeping Davexander company. Kotatsu-chan? Maladict? What would you guys like to drink?"

Kotatsu looked puzzledly at Damen when he chuckled. What was funny? Ceilings might be funny... Kotatsu then snapped back to attention and said "Water would be lovely." Mal-kun asked for milk. Listening to Damen and Jayde, Kotatsu said "You make salads, yes. growing the veggies, chopping them up, frying them..." Mal-kun looked at her. "Frying them? So that... thing that was last night's dinner was a salad?" he said. Kotatsu looked curiously back. "Yes. Doesn't everyone fry salads?" Mal-kun shrugged. "Maybe in Kotatsuworld..."
