I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong section; feel free to move it if needs to be moved. Anyway, I desperately need your help if I'm going to stay connected with all of you. mrgreen

Okay, here's my situation and hopefully you can help. For the past 2 days (maybe longer I can't keep track xd ) I have been leaving my computer on 24/7 as usual, but lately when I return to it after several hours sitting idle no input via keyboard or mouse will work. I know it hasn't locked up because my screen saver is still active. I also get a lot of beeping from my computer (the internal speakers or whatever it's called that makes the sterotypical beeping on a computer). I have NOT installed any new software or removed any in a very long time (over a year or so). I have an EMachines T2895 and am running Windows XP. (I know it's cheap and I know it's out of date, but until recently it's been working fine and I don't have any money presently to replace it unless it's absolutely dire.) I desperately need this computer to stay connected with all of you AND to help run the business Steven (my brother) and I want to start so badly in the coming months, so any help you can give me is much appreciated.

I will post back to all suggestions as I try them and tell you if they work or don't work. Thanks again for your help!

I've never had a problem like that. How do you get them to work again? Do you turn it off and then they work when it comes back on again? It sounds to me like the issue is with the operating system.

Usually, what I do is I completely shut down the computer (how ever I can, even if that means just a hard shut down), let it sit for a while and reboot. Everything, then, usually, comes back on and works fine again for me. 3nodding I really can't explain it. rolleyes

It could be an issue with over heating. Try turning it off at night and seeing if that helps.

i had an emachines laptop it did the same thing when i tried to keep it running all day, they just don't like that, i never did fix it, just turned it off whenever it wasn't in use. I no longer have that lappy, and i never found out why it did it.

Gee, Levina, I have an emachines desktop which has me wondering if it's just because they're cheap and poorly made. confused

Alex, I have tried turning off the unit at night to see if it helps; seemed to at first.

Everyone thanks for your help. 3nodding I, unfortunately, had to go about replacing the entire motherboard (don't worry I got an inexpensive one off eBay) because one morning it just wouldn't boot up and when we tried switching out the power supplies something smoked and blew up. Come to find out it was a capacitor on the motherboard that smoked and blew up. xp At any rate, we have a few suspicions as to what was wrong and are thinking by sometime next year (or late this year) unless something drastic happens, I'll be getting a new computer. mrgreen Which now has me wondering what kind to get. rolleyes Ah, decisions, decisions. neutral

Just big enough to burn two adjacent chips and the capacitor. confused Your fire sounds a lot worse! eek Hopefully, with any luck, I'll have my original computer running by next Monday or Tuesday at the latest. 3nodding

Odd, I usually consider fire to be a generally good thing, though I can see how it might be negative in this context.
