Originally a sticky for the release of TotA... But that was over a month ago.

This is the topic for Tales of the Abyss. Post anything, and everything TotA related!

Beat ToR today which leaves me totally free for TotA! Yay! biggrin Should get it here in a few weeks or so I'd say.

It's been a really busy generation... Tales of Destiny 2, Symphonia, Rebirth, Legendia, Abyss, two Narikiri's and Summoner's Lineage... Of those I've still got Legy, Narikiri 2 and SL to complete. >.<

you beat alll of those....?
PostPosted: Tue Dec 27, 2005 10:09 am

Yeah...? Although I didn't really devote any time to mastering any of them except ToS and ToD2. ToR is fun but I don't really feel motivated to beat the extra dungeon or make all my characters crazy 1337. I use boot discs and Legendia doesn't work with them so I'm stuck with the English version and Narikiri 2 and SL I didn't really find very interesting and ended up losing my save slots a few times.

And, well.. I haven't gotten Abyss yet but I don't doubt I'll finish it. razz

If boot discs don't work on Legendia, wouldn't that also mean that they wouldn't work on Abyss? Just a thought...

Legendia is of DVD 9 (I think that's what it's called.) format whereas the rest aren't. Although yeah, if it was that'd be tons of motivation for me to mod my console or buy a J PS2.

IT'S NOT! SWAP DISCS WORK! SWAP DISCS WORK! BEST GAME EVAR? POSSIBLY!

No, really... If ToS had been this good the Nintenkids woulda crapped their pants.

*Almost craps pants*
(Where do you think half of my name came from anyways?)

I just watched the video on Holy-Star of some person solo-ing the arena special boss. Pretty impressive, and the rock version of "Eternal Mind" (That plays as the battle begins to get more aggressive) was really cool.

Abyss and Rebirth are next on my import list. Yay that Swap discs actually work for this.

...It looks awesome. I guess it's not coming to the US, by the sound of it, so I may have to import. Oh well....

If the Swap Magic works for it, all I'll have to do is buy Swap Magic. Then I'll be fine, right? o.o;

Of course, there is a slight problem....I CANNOT. Speak. Japanese. >_>;

But, I'll learn enough to get by, hopefully. Do they have as many character relationship-influencing cutscenes as Symphonia did?

The story so far has been pretty linear. Not a bad thing at all since watching the story progress is almost like an anime. My Japanese is terrible but I've gotten most of it. The real bears are the yes/no questions that I've more or less guessed my way through. xp If you use a translation guide it shouldn't be any trouble at all, I'm just stubborn.

So far what I've been most impressed by are the expressive graphics. This 'aint no blank stare and hand waving show like in ToS, these characters are about as animated as the face chats and it's REALLY fun to watch. Luke especially since he's your average brash and reckless anime dude.

....If the game gets translated, it'd be so cool.

....What kind of stuff do the characters say? o.o;

So it's a pretty typical story? o.o;

Bascially, "Hai" means "yes". "Iie" means "no". Those are the two key words you need to know pretty much. From there, a lot of the stuff that you use (Apple Gummines, Life Bottles, etc.) are in Katakana, so look at a katakana chart for help there. Then some of the games will have important words for you to know (like, ToD2 uses the word "Eiyu"(Hero) alot) so if they say a certain word a lot, go and find out what it means. Other than that, it's easy getting through a game. Understanding it is a little harder, but some of the more recent ones (ToD2, Abyss, Etc) do have face expressions and changes in voice-tone so you know that they either hate/like the person they're talking to.

Luke: URUSE NAAA!

More or less "Shaddup!". It's his catchphrase. xd

Tear: Ikimashou.

"Let's go." Every five minutes!! "Ikimashou. Ikimashou. Ikimashou."

Jade: HI-MI-TSU.

"It's a SEEEEECRET." xd Incidentally, the Hi in Hi-Ougi is short for Himitsu. 'Secret Skill' as it were.

Anise: LUKE-SAMAAAAA!
Ion: Luke-dono!

Dono is samurai era -san. -sama is crazy polite speech like Mr., sir, although in the case of Ion more like Lord.

Some kanji I found useful.

森 = Mori, Forest
村 = Mura, Town
剣 = Ken, Sword, Kenjutsu being Swordsmanship
長老 = Chouro, Elder
姫 = Hime, Princess, Hime Natalia xp
大佐 = Taisa, Colonel, Jade Curtis Taisa

Actually, that first one is Mori.

Mint: Mr. Morrison!
Tornix: I'm made out of trees, =D.
Cless: He's been drinking again...

(Yes, I take Japanese... >_>)

D'oh. xd I wasn't sure because I didn't pay much attention around that part and ended up getting lost cuz of it. Very early on you're asked to go to a 'Mori'.

*checks his dictionary* D'oh... I dunno how I mixed Mo with Mu. xd
