Does anybody know what it means to drown in a dream? I do it a lot, and cant quite figure out why (probably since I don't know what it means). Any suggestions as to what it could mean would be greatly appreciated.

Dream Moods To dream that you are drowning, indicates that you are feeling overwhelmed by emotions or repressed issues that are coming back to haunt you. You may be proceeding too quickly in trying to discover your unconscious thoughts. You should proceed more cautiously and slowly. If you drown to death, then is refers to an emotional rebirth. If your survive the drowning, then a waking relationship or situation will ultimately survive the turmoil. That's the definition found on this site. Keep in mind that these are just general meanings.

A lot in dreams depends on you personally, just down to the imagery and symbolism you associate with. To some the water might be cleansing and to others an omen of doom. It may be a past-life memory, for example, which is something we'll never know. It could be the expression of a fear.
Personally, if I were to go all psychoanalytic, I'd say it referred to a strong emotion that you're not acknowledging. I mention not acknowledging because if you were dealing with it, theoretically you wouldn't be dreaming about it so often.
Now psychoanalysis is often non-falsifiable and scientifically unsound, but still.
