I'm back after a long and inexplicable hiatus, and I'm glad to be back in the Guild.

I was saddened to hear that GM has considered killing off the Saab brand in order to reorganize and streamline the company.

Before this decision was made, Koenigsegg made a failed bid before Spyker Cars agressively pursued a purchase of Saab. However, the purchase deal expired before both sides could agree on terms.

Spyker has implied that it will try to come to terms with GM even though it may be too late to save Saab at this point.

It's a shame that GM had to come to this decision, but although Saab was an innovative (albeit quirky) auto company, their glory days were behind them, noted by their lackluster sales figures. It would have been interesting to see a Spyker- or a Koenigsegg- engineered Saab, or even to witness some of Saab's coolest concepts before its demise, though.

Note that the aviation company that Saab is based from is in no danger of closure. This only applies to the car division currently owned by GM.

Most of you who knew me would think that in response to this I would say 'good riddance' to it all. But then I saw this, which left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

So for now, I bid my farewells to Saab.
