Here you can introduce yourself, state your prior and future Tales experience, and how you found the series and the guild! It's a free thread, but try and stay on topic. Ne, minna? biggrin
Yo! You might remember me from such forums as Tales Central, Tales of Fans, Tales Online, the official Namco forums, and Gamespot! In order I was... Majinken, Majinken, Majinken (Majinken, Majinken, Majinken, MAJINKEN!! xd ), William, and Quube.
Currently I've played... Game - (System I've Played It On) Complete: O Incomplete: X Tales of Phantasia - (SFC, PSX J, GBA J, PSP J) O, O, X, X Tales of Destiny - (PSX E, PS2 J) O, X Tales of Eternia - (Also known as Tales of Destiny II in America.) - (PSX E) X Tales of Destiny 2 - (PS2 J) O Tales of Symphonia - (GCN E) O Tales of Rebirth - (PS2 J) O Tales of Legendia - (PS2 E) X Tales of the Abyss - (PS2 J) O Tales of the Tempest - (NDS J) X Narikiri Dungeon 1~4 - (GB J, GBA J, PSP J) X, X, O, X Summoner's Lineage - (GBA J) X
Eternia and Phantasia GBA are X'd due to freak accidents. I'd gotten to the very end of both. gonk
Currently I'm Playing: Tales of the Abyss in a couple weeks
I wouldn't exactly call myself an expert but I do alright. I'm also a struggling student of art/writing/Japanese... with a passion to help! smile

Bweeeeeeeeeeeeeee. The Tales guild is finally up. 3nodding Well, not really finally, 'cause it was only planned for about 3 days.. But.. Whatever! xD Since I didn't earn a decent amount of Gold in time for helping out with the guild being created, I'll try to earn some and donate it to the guild. razz
So, like everyone knows... I think... I've merely played Tales Of Symphonia. sweatdrop Yet I do own Tales Of Destiny II (Like you said, the English version of Tales Of Eternia), but I'm currently incapable of playing it. I must confess that I lack a Playstation, or a Playstation 2. x..x; I've played about 5 minutes of it on my friend's Playstation 2 though, and it was good for the five minor moments. (And I'm getting a PS2 for Christmas, probably! Muahaha!)
So the ones I'd like to try are, well, all of the other English Tales games. Which only leaves Tales Of Destiny for now. ('Cause I'm not even going to try reading Japanese...) But when Tales Of Phantasia comes out on March 6th (for Gameboy Advance, which I don't have but I'm probably getting a Gameboy SP thingy), and Tales Of Legendia comes out for PS2 in February, I'll probably want them too. 3nodding
(By the way, this is random, but... I made a banner for the guild 'cause I felt like it.) O..o;

Sunvei: That picture is nice, but mind extending it to either a 4 X 2, or a 3 X 3 so it can include Stahn and Lloyd? (If 3 X 3, the title of the guild could go in the middle)

You really shouldn't be too intimidated by the Japanese. Even as a novice of the language I've managed to finish all the ones I've played. biggrin A basic understanding of Katakana is enough to at least get you through the menus, item names, town names, etc. http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Japanese/Kana_Chart

As well, items are visible (in GBA you have to make them show up) and you can tell what they are by looking at them. Some of the attacks may be hard to figure out, but eventually it comes easy to remember, "Majinken" is here and this is there... As far as some of the kanji goes, that's probably the only nuisance, as well as hiragana if you can't read it and don't know what it means. From the tiny portion of ToD2 that I have played, they use the voices ALOT so it's a good way to hear how things should sound, and then possibly understand what they're talking about. Though it does depend on the game, it's nearly impossible to know what they're saying in ToP GBA without voices.

"Kisama!! Naze koko ni?!! Yameroooooooo!!!!!" Me wuvs voices. xd The Playstation 2 Tales especially have almost 95% voiced text with the rest falling under unvoiced NPCs. Cyllya has a chart floating around somewhere of useful kanji but it's been a long while since I read it. A large majority of Tales have simplifications for skills and sometimes text. Tales of Rebirth even goes so far as to include English for towns and such. ToP GBA for example... ... follows the trend of putting katakana over kanji. From the katakana we can confirm that this skill is... O - U - Gi - Ma - Ji - N - Hi - En - Kya - Ku Ougi - Majinhienkyaku The combination of Majinken and Hienrenkyaku.

I was about to, and it's fine for you asking, but the problem is I don't have close-up pictures of either Stahn or Lloyd from the intro videos to use. I only have dumb ones... xD Tales Central just doesn't have the pictures I'd like. And I can't take screenshots when the videos are playing in Windows Media Player; it just doesn't work. But I don't have the videos in a format that can be played on Quicktime. I took that Reid picture right from a screenshot of the Tales Of Destiny II video playing in Quicktime, though... x..x;

I don't know of many online teaching tools, but I do know of a really good dictionary. http://www.coolest.com/jquicktrans/It's the one I use anyway. Radical look up, input for both Romaji, Katakana, Hiragana, Kanji and whole English words, and it's pretty easy to use. Also free! Holy crap, right?

*Waves timidly* Hello all, I'm Val. I've only played Tales of Symphonia... and I haven't quite beaten that yet due to the fact that I'm playing about 7 other games also. I was introduced to ToS by my good friend sunvei, who I affectionally call Vivi. (Please don't stab me for mentioning Final Fantasy. sweatdrop ) He's also the one that told me about the guild. I'm really looking forward to finishing ToS and trying more Tales games. I have Tales of Legendia reserved at my local GameCrazy, and I'm certain that Vivi will convince me to get Tales of Eternia in the next month or so.

Val's here. ^^ Yes, Tales Of Destiny II (Eternia) is really a good game, so I most likely will force you to get it sometime... But now I want Tales Of Legendia... or at least reserved for me so that I'll know I can get it. At EB Games here, I don't think they'll even get Tales Of Legendia or Phantasia when they come out in 2006, for some reason. They only have Tales Of Symphonia... like everywhere else. Will the two Tales games coming to North America be brought to Canada even? *Wonderwonder*

I think we need to set up some kind of website for Canada to order games when we get older. *nods* We'll set up some bases, and I'll bring all kinds of games from America to sell. Good plan?
